Here is why constitution is better than cunning for a warrior tank

i wish one point to constitution added more than 5 hp cuz thats nothing.... thatd help for a bisic "tank stat"

You can put 3 points in constitution every level ...well, reallistically only 2 because you'd put at least one point in strength to keep up with gear requirements and 100% attack chance on normals. By level 20, that's +190HP, more than what you started with.

I'm willing to bet gear and runes are designed around shoring up deficiencies in stat allocation. Or at least, you can select armor/runes based around doing that.

Instead of looking for some balance, I actually like the potential for multiple tank builds we're seeing here.. I bet it'll be entirely possible to beat the game with a balance, or massive evasion, or just a big sponge.

Sure they'll probably be an optimal build that works with the best items in the game, but I really like the feel with how you can go at it from several different angles here.. But then, that sounds rather provokative.

I actually want to see if I can turn the Weapon and Shield tree into a damaging build and not just a tanking build. It's Shield Bash and Assault abilities suggest it could be done.

Ofcourse it can. Take only shield bash, pummel, Assault, and Battery from the shield tree. Everything else should be from vanguard and berserker.

I might give that a try, Viking-style.

You could also get scatter from the shield tree, but its essentially 2 points since you have to take shield defense for it.

Cunning does add to DPS though. In this game in particular this seems likely to make a sensible difference, specially when it comes to warriors. Critical hits in DA2 seem to be more frequent than in most RPGs I've played.

Then again, it would take around half of your attribute allocation up to level 20 to double your health, while cunning would demand more than that to provide feasible defense ratings while netting more than 30% bonuses to critical damage. I wonder if it adds to the already determined critical damage or to the base damage though.

Warriors being burst damage based and having some insta-crit possibilities here and there, those can really add up. Consider, if you will, cleave plus Might/Muscle, Bravura, Giant's reach and Whirwind/tornado. I'm not even sure if one's stamina pool would support all that, but that set of skills have the potential to perform some enemy party wiping or SEVERE crippling at end-game, with the bonuses from cunning making a significant difference. I'd like to see if and how those bonuses stack, though.

The rest of the shield tree is useful too. Perception can help keep you alive when you charge the line of enemies. :)

Well yeah most of the damage stuff is in Vanguard anyways, and as long as your hitting 3 targets with an initial swing your out damaging a rogue DPS wise. I think Weapon and Shield would make a fine DPS build and would have an easier time controlling the field for there DPS then a 2H'er would. Trading off just a bit for more control, never a bad thing. Kinda like me making a 2H tank. Trading off some tank ability from Shield while upping aggro and targets hit.

As per Con being +5 and not higher... +5 is actually pretty solid in comparison. Since everything is %based having higher HP factors into a lot of little things and it, at base, is like 1/2th a fortitude from STR. So you live longer, resist force 1/2th as well as a str point, and gain more from healing. That's 3 separate basic effects from 1 stat. +10 would end up being a bit to much as it would equal a 1:1 ratio with str as far as fortitude is concerned, and be twice as effective everywhere else. Would be kinda insane.

@JulianoV:Remember what I said earlier in relation to tanking and cunning? Peter (the lead game mechanics guy) has his Tanks split near-evenly from str/cun/con. Defense comes heavily from ITEMS. Its not 99% stat driven like it was in DAO. So, no you wont have to. Also keep in mind most of the info in that thread is all based off wonky, over half a year old demo build nonsense. While fun to get an idea for how the game plays, its not that good for figuring out build stuff.

Now as to the point of making a 'DPS build', I think due to Stamina/Mana (and HP) not growing with level, that Willpower is gonna be a pretty solid dump stat. Since the primary dmg/atk stat has much less an impact on overall dmg then compared to DAO, having as much Stamina as possible ultimately lets you have greater burst damage. Also since damage is reserved in % (everythings percent this time around heh) It'll be even more important to have a good reserve.
