LOL@ people who think that ME2 ending was anything but setting up the entire tone of ME3.

Which is epic in its own right.

Is the tone of ME3 unintentional humour and "big bads" you can't take seriously?

No that was the tone of ME2, aka jacob and harbringer.

Is anyone else really worried the ending is really bad like the reviews make it out to be?

Not really, since I don't know why the reviewers felt it was unsatisfying and I don't want to spoil myself by finding out.

Do you think it's because of the lack of an ancient evil that needs to be defeated?

That's a strong possibility, since FNV (which also featured several main factions all in conflict and no main, overarching Big Bad) was also said to be "unsatisfying." Personally I thought the focus on infighting and political struggle was a breath of fresh air, and I definitely welcome it in the unbelievably stale and repetitive fantasy genre.

The ending, and the story itself..I'm worried there will be no "interest".

If the demo is anything to go by, I couldn't give a damn about Hawk's family. When your brother (or sister) died, and your mother started blaming you (for something that wasn't your fault). Then the whol deal with Avaline and her husband...oh how tragic I can tell from their 3 lines together that they have an EPIC love...how sad....

OK, its a demo, maybe things are rushed. But the way things seem in the demo, Bioware tries way too hard to make you "care" about the characters, making things seem soooo dramatic....and I just end up scratching my head and saying, "am I supposed to feel bad this guy just died? the big-budget music makes me THINK I should..."

but who knows. Maybe in the full version, things won't be so Ham-handed

If your going to buy the game anyway to find out it's not like they will care if you come to the message boards a week later and whine.

So three reviewers didn't like the ending, who is to say that 70% of the players will like the ending?

I think most games have a more or less disappointing ending anyway. DAO was really an exception with its great ending.

I wonder why developers don't spend more effort here.

They said it was unsatisfying because it is open-ended, I recall.

I look at like this.  Cassandra is talking about a looming war.  The story is about Hawke's rise to power.  So there's going to be some stuff setup in DA2 that isn't resolved.  The beginning of the story tells you that.  They're not going to shift to the present and then resolve everything Cassandra has teased.  I mean, maybe I'm an idiot, and they'll do just that.  But I doubt it.  After all, this isn't a game about that coming war.

I expect that Hawke's story has a natural ending but that Thedas is left with a cliffhanger, that many threads are left unresolved and that those things are annoying some reviewers.

That wouldn't annoy me though.  It seems preferable that not everything be resolved, given how everything starts out.
