Hi, this is my 1st topic on the Bioware Social Network so I'm still just figuring out how stuff works here but, anyway, I own Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 and am enjoying it alot, but when I found out ME3 was being released this winter I was thinking that A) this game is going to be about 10 hours long and incredibly linear B) little to no improvements over ME2 or C) A & B combined.

So what I was thinking about was if ME3's release date should be pushed back to 2012(like mid to late 2012, not early february) and what improvements you'd like to see in it.

For me I'd like to see the planet scanning eliminated , which many of you will agree with me on, and just ask Liara to fund research for me(you get discounts if you romanced her), also, a bit more vehicle sections, but this time with a machine that isn't made out of cardboard(Also, I've noticed Bioware has had a tendancy of naming our tanks after sharks, seriously,Mako? Hammerhead? why don't they just hand us the Great White so we can just steamroll through levels, considering it's, y'know, A FREAKING TANK!)

I'd like a way for neutral playthroughs to have everyone loyal, they should have some middle ground like if you pick enough paragon points you unlock the blue option, enough renegade points you unlock the red option BUT if you pick enough neutral options you unlock a yellow option.

There is also the squadmate issue, I know the arguement is that every squadmate you have could potentially die so you'll need an entirely new crew in ME3 or it will be a nightmare for the writers but in my opinion you should just have to live with the consequences, besides  half of your team only joined up for the suicide mission and after that they leave(e.g. Samara the Justicar, Thance's terminal, Mordin's ridiculously onld for a Salarian and Zaeed's a mercinary), ,in fact the most will probably stay, Garrus and Tali are your 2 oldest teammates, this is Grunt's, Jack's AND Kasumi's 1st proper homes and Legion semi-worships you, plus considering you have to purposely TRY to get everone killed at the end is just a sign of things to come.

Another thing I'd like is to bring your entire team with you, In ME2 you spent most of it recruiting people and gaining their loyalty, and even then you only would have, at most, 3 other people with you, I want my team to be out fighting with me on most missions, not just sitting around the ship meditating or being perpetually stuck in the middle of some calibrations, THAT'S WHY WE HAVE A CREW!

Finally I'd like proper consequences for your actions, like in the beginning if you played Paragon then before the Reapers invade TIM will be attempting to hunt you down but if you actually did what TIM asked then you'll have the Alliance on your ass,or if they include the afformentioned yellow option you could have the council or both of them on you but you get assistance from a certain blue friend

Also there's many other things I'd like consequences for, like saving the rachni, the Genophage data, the Collector base intel and the Geth brainwashing. Basically proper plot changes, not just in a short news report or in an email from your private terminal.

The game was released for a good long while before it came to PS3, so they have been working on it a lot longer then you think.

I know but it was released in 2010 so late 2011 is still pretty short in terms of prodution

^They're not even doing that. According to the press during the VGAs, BW said they were on final polishing work.

This is the wrong question. It doesn't matter when ME3 is released, as long as it's finished.

They've been making 3 since before 2, and they've been laying the storycrafting foundations since 1. A quick turnaround is not surprising.

It doesn't really matter to me when the game releases. As long as it's as good as it can be.

Though I have to say, it might not be a bad idea to delay it. The amount of titles coming in the holiday is insane...

Just shy of two years is short? It's pretty standard in the industry for games to be about two years apart.

That said, most of it's already done for them. They have the engine, the story, the characters, the setting and a lot of recyclable items, both large and small - All that truly needs to be done is voice recoding, composing, building the maps/levels that need to be done, creating the new items and making sure the whole thing works as it should. It's going to have a shorter turn around than ME2 (Which itself came out about two and a bit years after ME1 on the 360) as there's less that would need to be done.

That's true...2 years is pretty much S.O.P now days in the gaming industry in terms of turning out sequels.

didnt' they have everything they need in terms of engine and gameplay issues when me2 came out?i don't think they need an extra year to write the story seeing as they already planned the main story arc for the trilogy when they did me1 (i think i saw in a youtube interview with bioware founders).all they have to do is add some new gameplay elements if they want and presto!they're done.i don't think bioware would release it if they didn't think they had enough time.

Damn it, Diablo III! It's been announced in what, 2008? and still no proper release date.

Are you kidding me. The designers of Mass Effect have been dreaming and thinking about stuff for Mass Effect 3 since then started ME. They already knew what was going to happen in ME3 when ME2 was finished or half way done. I'm not worried.

As gabe put it(I'm paraphrasing), better for a game to be a little late, than suck forever. On the other hand, I'm not particularly worried - Bioware isn't going to put something this big into millions of hands unless it's 110% ready. Period. End of Story.

The End.
