This post is about how idiotic the fact that people want realistic combat in a fantasy game. Not "Why is diz like teh ninja gaiden".

I'm sorry but it appears that people have gone back in time, watched every major 16th century battle and have become experts in medieval combat.

Seriously. Since when does any Western RPG give us 'real' combat. DA:O was no different. There is no such thing as 'realistic' combat in any game.

I think people get the picture that swords weighed 50kg and it took 10 seconds to swing one. Or that every battle was an amazing duel to the death. Fantasy is fantasy, there are certain realistic aspects to Western RPGs, but you cannot bash DA2 for having 'non realistic' combat then praise DA:O for it's 'realistic' combat. Both have their pros and cons. DA:O didn't go over the top, DA2 does. But to judge a game for one single flaw? Why do I still play Morrowind? Or Gothic 3? Because they are good games.

Combat is as relevant to an RPG for me as Graphics, they score pretty low. Look at Planescape: Torment, how many people can say it had the best combat ever made? Not many. But how many people can say, it had the best writing in an RPG ever? Quite a few.

I'm sure DA2 will be a good game, but please, if your going to whine about anything, don't let it be about 'realism'.

REALISM? THIS. IS. DRAGON AGE!

Honestly though, when people complain about "Realism" in a game like this they likely just ran out of arguments.

Whenever I read someone talk about realism on the forums - except Aermas - I always mentally replace it with "realism as Hollywood and other games have led me to understand it." And then it becomes just another opinion.

With Aermas I mentally replace it with a blank post so I don't feel compelled to respond to it.

slowly swinging your sword to do a "heavy attack" is the dark fantasy version of kung fu movies where the villian just stands there where the hero does a big yelling dramatic slow-mo roundhouse kick

That's why it seems (and still seems) no one read my post. I was actually saying how stupid people are when they argue about realism. I am not saying what is real and what is not. I have no knowledge in that. I am just angry to how many people complain about DA2's combat, because it's not realistic!

Well in the making of video of DAO they did repeatedly mention how they want Dragon Age to be a realistic fantasy in order to separate it with othe fantasy rpgs out there. Im just suprised that changed.

Good combat/ combat is important especially if you want to play the game multiple time. It is a game afterall not a movie, and combat makes a huge percentage of the interaction.

Indeed we'd all be dead of dysentry on the way to war or limping around after one battle with wounds that took weeks to heal if we were not permanently maimed, buffy would have no teeth, cauliflower ears and several severe fractures to her face and body most nights and every kung fu star would attempt their ridiculous wire work jumping only to be slapped and told to stop being a ******.

Actually it may just be the cider thinking for me but this sounds quite good.

Mmm cider...

They just need to fix the color of the flames back to a red-orange hue... not this sickly and ungainly yellow that makes my eyes bleed.

Aermas is a BSN user who is relatively well known for advocating (his own particular brand of) realism.  Haven't seen him 'round much recently, though.

PRAISE JEBUS AND BIOWARE!

THIS GAME IS CRAP!

OMFG, EVERYTHING THAT BIOWARE MAKES SUCKS!

I DON'T LIKE CHANGE!

or: (like a normal person)

I see what you mean, but for me thats not the case. But let's have some cake together anyway. :)

If I wanted realism I would go outside.

This game has ogres, darkspawn, dragons, and mages. Why do you not have a problem with magic, but the mass and weight of melee weapons troubles you?

Grow up. When people says realism in a fantasy game is not that no magic-no potions-no fantastic creatures. There is no one more blind than that who doesn't want to see. What they say with realism is coherence.

Weapons size acording with how tall are the people and their musculature. Not daggers which look like long swords, long swords that looks like two handed swords and two handed swords which looks like...I don't know, those weapons looks taller than a person.

I agree that the combat pace in DAO was a little slow. Now is the opposite, sometimes they look like supersayans teletransporting and slicing with a sword nearly as tall as them like if they were made of paper. Is there any average point between the two? that would be "realism".

I'm pretty sure you understand that when you have read it.

People will see the pros and cons of buying the game. If pros are greater than cons, they will buy it. That doesn't mean that if they think something is wrong they have to be quiet. They are consumers and therefore, they can complain, make constructive suggestions and all of that.

Also, they should say the good points and congrat about those.

And if they would, they would probably suck. Making a realistic combat takes a lot of time and resources, for this games that are dedicated to this aspect usually are not very good at others. This however it's perfectly fine, because this is their intent and what they want to specifically accomplish.

Now, however, for an rpg, combat is only a part of the game, and I can debate neither the most important.

In an utopia it would maybe be a good idea, yes, having 20 years of development cycle.

People ran a few comparisons a few weeks back and the weapons were all realistic, aside from the hilts being a little bit larger than normal.

Thank for finally saying it, simfamSP.

People are hating way too much on this particular fantasy game not having the same "realism" as its predecessor fantasy game. They're both fantasy games.
