You'd think, that by this point, everybody here would know instantly that any and all reviews, are total bull****.

You'd think.

I'm only paying attention to the part that states main conflict is Chantry vs Mages

Well, yeah. That's what they told us at the very beginning of development. If you haven't figure that the main conflict of the game is between Magi and Chantry...

And I'm comparing this to that one leaked fake-spoiler thread from 4-chan :wizard:

If you're comparing a review to a spoiler you know is fake...

You think?

I'm doing this for pure amusement, the fake spoiler was more interesting imo

So what did we learn from all of this.

Bias or no bias review?

Hmm. 12 to 15 hours is seriously bad.. Thing is, over the last years I've come to rather believe vague German gaming sites and blogs instead of the bought-off big-name game review sites (ign, gamespot, etc.) - since they never just say how it is.. Smaller magazines can afford to say their true thoughts.

Besides, I'd rather read a review of an RPG game by an RPG gamer, not a review of an RPG game made by a console shooter player (such as the reviewers of ign).

As for scores.. The funny thing is, they really don't matter to anyone but the developers. Several big companies, such as EA, use metacritic scores of a game to determine the success of the developers, and rewards/cuts off them accordingly. So giving DA2 a low score, even if deserved, would probably mean bringing the overall rating down and imposing penalties on the devs. But as far as the players are concerned - the real review is in the text, and the pros/cons, and not the percentage scores.

This all seems very contradictory, lol.

Hmm.  Some of it.  When you break it down though it seems fairly consistent.

Posted too quickly - I meant it all sounds quite good there, contrary to what the initial post said. Confusing as hell (and probably why we shouldn't give much credence to this review yet).

ME1's length is very variable depending on how much time you spend on collection quests, fiddling with inventory, driving the Mako around for trivial stuff, and collection and FedEx quests.

Any game pretty much depends on the player for judging length.

Also one could say about ME2, a mandatory mini-game, another mandatory mini-game, oh wait another even more annoying mandatory mini-game then throw in a bunch of therapy quests. See anyone can do it. But I would never say that.

PC Gamer Uk gave it 94% and was quite enthused by the game.
However I expect certain 'people' on these forums to start shouting down this as EA/Bioware having paid off all the game mags.Image IPB

It's not quite like that. But if you want advertising, exclusives etc. You have to stay on good terms with the publishers.

Its an inherently corrupt system.

And the guys who are cut out of the deal, will bash the game.

The only reviewer across all media that you can trust is Roger Ebert. Everybody else... well, I won't say.

"It took me 140 hours to beat DAO, but even though there was a thread that said DA2 takes 50+ hours I'm only to latch on to this particular review with a shorter play time to gauge how quickly I will complete DA2 and therefore how much fun I will have playing it."

"87 is a great score. Not every game will score a 90+"

Yes but they bring up a lot of negative comments.

This sucks, that sucks, it isn't better than origins but it's good.

Why 87?

Why TC don't post positives?

Full score
Graphic:7/10
+ detailed characters
+great animations+nice spell effects
-surroundings have little polygons and details
-textures often seem "muddy"
Sound:9/10
+dynamic orchestra music
+suiting fighting sounds
+good English voice actors
-not all parts are cast well in German
Balance:9/10
+four difficulties
+easy access
+fight are always fair
+talents and classes are well balanced
-difficulty can change during the campaign
Atmosphere:9/10
+fantastic cutscenes and dialogs
+dark brutal fantasy world
-recycled areas
-often lifeless landscapes
Controls:8/10
+free saving
+easy to use UI
-hard aiming due to no tactical view
-needlessly complicated menu
Content:8/10
long campaign
+high replayability
many main and side quests
-few areas
-restricted on being human
Story/Quests:9/10
+very thrilling, varied quests
+nice surprises
+often different solutions
-story lacks epicness
-open ended
Fighting system:10/10
+tactical but not to complex
+many specialisations possible
+interesting boss battles
+many different talent trees
Character development:9/10
+partly distinctive, multi layered NPC companions
+fast and dynamic
+many options during dialog
-it is seldom necessary to use companions in dialog
Items:9/10
-countless spells and talents
+class specific weapons and armor
+crafting
-little choice overall

Now this makes things much clearer. Thanks for posting.

I agree either suck EA completely or not at all .

This seems like an unbaised review giving biased score.

Exactly. The detailed list looks encouraging and the review itself seems to be incongruous with basically everything in the list, lol.

Absolutely everything, by definition, is biased.

You want an un-biased review? Ain't never gonna happen.

Bleh, the gaming media as a whole are a bunch of first person shooter/action game loving people who use bias against everything that isn't a FPS.

I'd rather 12 hours of a great experience, than say 30 of a mostly so-so experience. DA:O was like the latter in many ways.

Pretty much agreed. I have four DAO playthroughs (pluss the remaining origin stories) completed, so I certainly got my money's worth. But the game was hardly perfect.

Obviously DA2 isn't either.

I mean it really has to do with everything you do.  ME2 took me 20 hours and I did everything just about, DA:O took me 50 hours and I did everything.  Awakening added another 19 hours (again doing everything).  Plus multiple playthroughs equals I spent about 120 hours with DA:O, 50 or so with ME2, still only 19 with Awakening.

Have you, maybe, read what I wrote? I said I played it.

Demo-Mike wrote...
Two worlds 2 is colorfull and it looks better. It just does, arrtstyle has nothing to do with it.

Art style has everything to do with it, just because I expressedly said to you that I was talking about the technical side (an objective measure), not taste. Colors means little in confront to good concept arts and models in this case.

Now, maybe, you are not able to notice it, but I assure you that everyone that is a little "on the field" (so to speak) will notice immediately when a model is drawn badly.

For you these things probably mean much less than, for example, good colored environments etc. and you don't notice what I'm talking about because you look more at other things. However models/concepts are the proof (graphically speaking) of a game being made by good artists or not. So they are some the most important things when you want to ascertain the technical aspect of the graphics. Colored environments and other context variables are much less relevant.

Main Quest takes 12-15 hours, you can double that number "if you take your time and explore everything the game has to offer".

Sad, but not unexpected.

Overall pretty good, but the graphics needed to be sorted before release and it doesn't sound like they have been. which is pretty shockin since they said the graphics were one of the things that were gonna be improved..
