The city is still so empty. . .I don't know maybe it's because the buildings are so tall and spread out but Kirkwall seems so less populated then cities in Origins.

I hope DA3 isn't like this.

The buildings look like they're made of clay.

Um, you do know that humans (in the real world) have been using clay mud to build dwellings for thousands of years, yes?

Today, underdeveloped countries / villages still use clay mud to make huts.

Hell even with advancements in construction thanks to Roman engineering, clay bricks became a cheap & readily available material to use.

Ok, wow maybe I should clarify before you get your panties in a twist over such a vague statement. I mean it looks so pristine and boring with no signs of age or deterioration over the years. So yeah, it looks like clay. The play-doh type that you cook in the oven.

Kirkwall is not New York. It's not densely popuilated and the people aren't always on the streets.

Plus peoples grpahics cards would scream.

I prefer theres not alot of people. It would lag the game a treat.

And you'd bump into them.

It seems the Denerim Market had more inspiring art design then the whole city of Kirkwall. Dude, even the most boring area in origins, The Deep Roads, had more personality and better color scheme. Everything just looks like it was made from sand.

Have you pherhaps (I say pherhaps) noticed that the gameplay almost totally lacked contrast while increasing luminosity (and not a thing having to do with the game)? Now, just for your knowledge, without contrast/more luminosity colors lose saturation, and losing saturation you lose color.

You seem very good and keen at noticing lack of color, yet, strangely, you seem at the same time so unattentive about this "little" particular. How comes?

Are you seriously telling me that you find Kirkwall's use of colors and art design to be interesting in any way, shape or form? There's just no personality. It's almost like BioWare are actively trying to erase everything Brent Knowles  did in the first game.

Considering Kirkwall is supposed to be jam packed with Ferelden refugees from the Blight, it looks like a ghost town. A very beige colored ghost town.

I'm just saying that you cannot judge colors fairly on that gameplay because the contrast is almost absent and the luminosity is much increased. Now those two togheter mean a form of saturation and saturation removes color. If it were "real" saturation you will have grey, in this case, however, the result is that all turns in a shade of the "prevalent" color, in this case an ochre for the city.

When has it been stated that Kirkwall is suppose to be jam packed with refugees?

I was really hoping that the repetitive stabbing animation a S&S warrior has when using Shield Defence would not be in the full game. Looks quite bad.

Obviously you have no idea what you're talking about. One, it makes perfect sense to change the combat animation. Two, this is how you would fight with a shield defensively.

Right, you'd make the exact same stabbing motion again and again. Because that wouldn't be predictable. Whatever, I'm not going to get into a stupid discussion about "realism". I maintain that it doesn't look great when the character is making the exact same attack motion again and again. Particularly as it's likely you'll be making heavy use of Shield Defence mode.

You're saying DA2's graphics are inferior to Origins? Please visit your local optician.

I am rather confused why people are leveling complaints at DA2 that would have been perfectly valid complaints about Origins and yet at the same time are acting like they don't apply to origins.

Since comments made in Origins about people fleeing to Kirkwall.

Anyways, they need to fix this in future games. If we have to get a lower polycount in the character models then so be it.

It's also mentioned that Hawke arrives in Kirkwall as part of a whole flotilla of refugee ships.

It's already been said that the refugess were kept outside in large camps, the templars refusing them entry in fear of the taint.

I think Kirkwall looks awesome and epic, though the Dragon fight was a little dull, the player wasn't too good.

If you think about it, environments have never been Bioware's strong suite. The Baldur's Gate games looked very good for their time but nobody would consider Neverwinter Nights a beautiful game. Knights of the Old Republic had enough good environmets to impress me back in the day, sure, but remember how bland Mass Effect looked with all those gray corridors? Well Mass Effect 2 was an improvement but not by much.

And still I remember Mass Effect 1 and 2 as two of the most visually stunning games of recent years, because they had smart storytelling and chosen parts of the games looked amazing.

Dragon Age: Origins was obviously a game were a lot of time was put into making lots of locations. But to be honest there was still a lot of corridors that could not have required much modelling. If Dragon Age 2 has better storytelling and more cinematic set pieces like Mass Effect, that can still make it a better visual experience as a whole even if there's less variation in the environments, in my opinion.

Hey, they're propably just playing to their strengths. There are lots of other games out there that focus on showing of artfull scenery with miniscule attention to detail, if that's the thing you're after. What I want from Bioware is good storytelling.

I rather like the way it looks. No doubt it's different, but I think it looks much more visually interesting than Origins did. Just like they said, the characters stand out more and they use negative space to great effect.

YUCK. Brown, brown, brown aaaaand...Light brown. What the hell happened to the vibrant colors Origin's had? Is this Dragon Age or Gears of DragonAge? Maybe if I delude myself that I am playing a Dune based game then it'll be better.

Everything just looks so bland and uninspiring.

Origins had vibrant colors? Interesting.

Listen up people it's time for the Lizard review of graphics

The engine is clearly Dated and just past it's time, but that being said i still think the game looks Decent. The Character models still look great for the most part and the Landscape looks like it belongs.

I am really hoping that the whole game doesn't stay in kirk wall, please let it be like DAO where we roam to villages, cities, mountains, and deep roads.

Hate to break it to you, but you do stay in Kirkwall for most of the game. There's some excursions outside but from what I heard from early reviews very few.

I don't know what people are ****ing about this time: the only part of Kirkwall you saw Hawke run around in was aptly named "The Slums." And there were lots of people hanging around there.

Well, I think the environments look great. Kirkwall especially. There's a lot more color, a lot more NPCs, and a far better sense of it being a large city, when compared to Denerim.

Definitely a major improvement from DA:O, in my book. ^_^
