Simple question. Ive played through almost all of the game, and...well, i hate allister. i dont want to have him in the party, nor do i enjoy playing sword/board. Just wondering how good a 2h or dual weild warrior tank does. Assuming you take the defensive talents available to those trees
How well do 2h or Dual weild warriors tank?

I did not have much luck tanking with a Dual Wielder, but that was my very, very first character so that could have easily just been the n00b factor.
2H can tank fine, you'll be pumping Str alot anyway so that should open access to the better armors faster, just make sure not to neglect your Con (obvious) and sprinkle some in Will and Dex whenever you can as well.

You could also go with Shale, he's a complete character from the Soldier's Peak DLC. Well worth it.

I thought about doing that. What is he? class-wise

Shale isn't a class, he has his own special talent set kinda like Dog does (except more versatile).
He does have the Warrior line though for taunt but no weapon talents obviously

Shale is one DAMN fine tank though. Each of his higher end Armor Crystals can give you 30% resist to a full spell category (Fire, Frost, Lightning, ETC all but Mind). Has a very good natural health/stamina regen as well when in Stoneheart.

Not very well. I mean it's possible, but they're certainly not ideal. They wouldn't have problems tanking minor things like genlocks and such but your best bet is to use shale or alistair.

There is spirit resist armor as well for shale. I used him as my only tank and it was just as good as an alistair. He has lower armor and defense, but makes up for it with his self-regen ability and his area of effect stuns.

She's actually from The Stone Prisoner DLC , but yea shale is a good fight, does heavy dmg and has a crap ton of health and her attack and defense crystals are awesome, pretty handy cause the crystals can be changed to fit any situation as long as you carry all of them with youLastMurder wrote...

I'm playing through on Nightmare right now with a DW tank (the PC) level 14 and going good, I actually regret the points I spent in shields early in the game. I had planned on switching between the two, I haven't had to whip out the shield yet though.

I'm playing a DW rogue. Been pushing hard on Dex and Cunning, and have reached for Rogue's 1st two lines, and DW first line (mostly). Everything else has been chosen pretty much because it is necessary to achieve the first two priorities.
Well, she does ok. She's level 9 now with Dex 35, and Cunning 23. I have Lethality (Rogue, 2nd line, 3rd talent) so Cunning is used for damage. I've neglected Willpower however (12) and that is pulling my short on abilities.
I'm finding she does pretty well. The very high Dex makes her hard to hit. Coup De Grace is also making her very deadly. I have been running her with Leliana (concentrating on developing archery), Morrigan (working towards Crushing Prison
, and my dog, all except M have some ability to stun, and my PC gets nasty then.
The real test is about to begin, however. My dog has assisted with "tanking" so far, but I am just beginning the Broken Circle quest and now have Wynn replacing my dog. I'll have to take on all the tanking jobs. So far, It's working like this... PC goes stealth and checks ahead, revealing enemies. M then hits one at a distance with Winter's Grasp which generally triggers 1 - 4 enemies to come looking for us. PC let's one or two go by then backstabs. L starts hammering away with Suppresing Fire, W gets positioned as far away as I can get her, and is there mainly for healing, and M is building hexes and the like. My PC works to draw the attention away from any of the others that get into trouble. If she can pull agro, and it is too much for her, I just start running around in circles while the other three take pots shots and wear the enemy down. Seems to be working.
I am pushing for Dual-Weapon Mastery now, and want to find where I can unlock Duelist - I think my PC will turn into one bad-ass fighter even though she is not a classic tank - heck, she wears studded leather!

As 2H warrior I tanked most 'bread and butter' fights on Hard. Didn't tank Dargons, though--I brought Alistair or Shale along for that.
