After my fourth or so play through I concluded the Fade is more of a chore to me than anything else. I would write down every single attribute font and check them off one by one to make sure I don't miss any, and then just wondering around through maze after maze and it got really tedious.

To me it's a God sent, but I'm sure other players are totally opposed to the idea. Do any of you use it?

If I had the ability to do it on my XBOX360 I would do it without hesitation. I hate Lost in Dreams, it's the most circular annoying quest in the game. Though, I have done it so many times that I now get the entire thing done with all fonts in less than 45minutes *shrugs* It's good skill making but I still hate it.

I would rather do the fade and get a skip the deep roads mod. Just take me right to the cut scenes, right to the brood mother, right to the anvil and spirit dwarves and right to Caradin. But until they make a skip the deep roads mod I will continue to use skip the fade. I hate dark areas anyway, I love the Brecillian forest and the wilds its bright and doesn't give me a headache.

You'd made a horrible Dwarf! :)

There's no sodding cealing outside!

Used it in my last run. Wrapped up the Circle Tower that much faster.

You can use the console for that. The command is runscript zz_orz_debug then you select area jump and pick your point of interest for instant teleportation. The deep roads have more teleport points than anything else in the game (all plot points have one) so it would seem you're not the only one that got tired of running around there.

The more I've played the Fade, the more I've grown to like it. Mods aren't of use for me anyway as I play on 360.

the biggest problem with The Fade is that except for the different 'prisons' for each companion, it's exactly the same on every single playthrough (one of the very few parts of the game where there's no flexibility at all)

throw in the lack of companions, so no party banter or option to stop and chat, and it knocks the tedium up an extra notch

so yeah, I skip the Fade

I love the Fade section. The creepy surrealism is nice for role-play. I like panning the camera around and looking at all the weird, twisted dreamscape. Especially when you get to see the Black City.

I use the skip the fade mod but I've also played DAO over a few dozen times lol. N since I can't cheat anymore on the upgrade points with my new comp ya it's no fun anymore lol. (When I say cheat I mean cause my other comp was so slow that I could click on those point things enough time's I'd get butloads of them) . No more doin that :(

The Fade is penance for all the evil things you do in the game later. Consider it attrition.

Gorim, now that is a reason to mod the game!

"Dwarven crap, fine dwarven crap!"

It might be tolerable if he sold more than 2 decent items.

Only once, when the fade was bugged and I kept crashing on the sloth demon fight. I actually really enjoy it. My favorite part is the level with the crazy mages. It's pretty funny.

I'd prefer a skip the Deep Roads mod. Why play the game at all if you're going to skip? Where does it end? Will we eventually get a Skip mod for all sections that can be compiled into a "Why Bother?" mod? For the record I find the Fade easy, fun and a refreshing change from having to drag around a bunch of whiners - it's like quiet time.

The reason to play if you're going to skip is that you only play the parts that you find enjoyable, and that's where it ends. :)

I actually find the deep roads enjoyable, if a bit too long.

There's at least one Skip Ostagar mod. Just throwing that out there.

yes, but at least with the skip the fade mod you still get everything you would have gotten going through the fade, apparently, that isn't the same with the skip ostagar mod.

and yes, I have the skip the fade mod, and I'd love a skip the deep roads. I LOVE playing dwarfs and I love orzammar, but not the deep roads. I just got my Auducan female out of there. I decided to do it first and get it out of the way. she helped her brother get on the throne too. lol

I should probably add that I've lost count of how many times I've actually played through The Fade before getting the mod. I've about 10 completed characters and I've no idea how many that I deleted part way through (some because I installed new mods which required a restart to get the most out of, some because I'd not played for a while and wanted to start again and occasionally because I ran into a gamebreaking bug due to me not reading instructions properly on installing some mods, I made sure not to make that mistake again)
as I said, my favourite parts of the game are those you can do differently. Orz for example has four main endings (king and anvil combos) plus some minor (Dagna & chantry) which effect the epilogue and plays differently depending on your Origin. Deep Roads gets a bit tedious but a few bits can be skipped by taking advantage of the "run to cutscene trigger point and the enemies chasing you will despawn/reset" glitch plus you get some comments from your companions along the way which make for some minor new bits of dialogue if you take different companions on each playthrough. The Fade however is identical in every way every time and you're alone

Being console user, no. But this last time through I was able to go through it in about 75 minutes rather than the 3 hours it usually takes me. I didn't use any guides or anything I just kind of "Followed" the flow of each of the dream areas and found each of the different Fade forms and Bosses really quickly. Heck I even found 2 of the attribute point fonts I had never gotten before.

Unfortunately I cannot use any mods, though it would be nice to have the option. I would never use them the first time, but I agree that if you've played through a game a few times there is no reason not to switch it up a bit. I do use the wikia guide for the fade as I find it the most reliable and helps me shave hours off of doing the fade. I do find it tedius and not very interesting. Even the companions nightmares are that interesting and they go too quickly.

As for Orzammar, having just replayed it I do see why it would get boring fast as it does take a long time. I did it over a couple of days. It's just all the tunnells and quite a few big fights to get through. Having said that though it is more interesting than the Mages tower and the Fade. There is more cool stuff to find and loads of history and a few NPCs to meet. I just find it more interesting and tolerable than the mages tower and the fade.

I actually still like Ostegar and the wilds its to do with the brightness, if the deep roads was not so red and brown but more like the Elven caves I wouldn't mind so much but the darkness gives me a terrible headache. I have even turned the gamma on my monitor up to lighten it quite a bit. Add that to the fact that this part of the story is the LONGEST questline in the game and you can see why I really want a skip the deep roads mod. I always have to play Orzamar over several days just because of my head.

I've never liked the Fade. The only parts I enjoyed were the skill fonts and seeing my different party members' nightmares. I'd much rather do the Deep Roads twice - I absolutely loved that eerie feeling of being deep beneath the earth and mountains, ruisn of an ancient civilization, drawing close to some terrible event...
