I don't kill the queen.  I feel if I do kill the queen then I will be missing a great oppurtunity in story developement.  Plus it's mean!! Posted Image

I ALWAYS kill the queen. Rachni are very unpleasant aliens that gave me a lot of trouble on my first ME1 infiltrator playthrough. Since then I decided there is no room for these insects in my ME universe.

And I never bought this crap about rachni being a friendly race.

I usually DON'T kill her. I've only killed her on a couple of my 8+ playthrough's.

I save her

Even if it ends up biting me later on, I figure she shouldn't die for things her ancestors' did.

Since the ME2 "default" is that you killed the Rachni queen, I assume that ME3 will give late-comers and PS3 players a mission where Shepard can win over or mind-control the surviving Rachni. I assume that there are still Rachni even if you kill the queen since the intercom news reports mention mysterious ships spotted that resemble Rachni ships.

No, the news report only plays if you save the queen.

I killed her with my one renegade playthrough otherwise I had roughly another dozen playthroughs where I save her. I figure it'll come back in ME3 to hopefully save me. There is a brief encounter in ME2 which suggests this is the case.

Also, I save the DA in the vast majority of my playthroughs not to save the Council but I figure having a big Asari dreadnought will come in handy sometime in the series.

To be fair it wasn't her ancestors it was her parents.

Here we have one of the very few interesting nonhuman species. Wipe them off the map of the galaxy? Not in my games. Also she doesn't deserve to be killed.

Killing the Rachni queen is easily the hardest thing to do in ME1 for me.

Another reason to save the queen: galactic instability is good for humanity. As newcomers, chaos opens up opportunities (see the Battle of the Citadel, for example). (also at the time of the decision, you don't know about the Reapers).

save the queen everytime

i assume everyone who kills the queen gives a certain squad member to cerberus rather than recruit it/him/her, if not theres some flawed logic going on

I can't kill the Rachni Queen. I just can't. Same as I can't play a Renegade - I'm trying to get the achievement (on 360) but it's almost physically painful to do so. And I always save the Council - as much as the turian counselor makes me wish there was a way I could reach through the TV and strangle him sometimes. I don't like the idea of a human-run Council. It seems like a bad idea, and kinda unfair too. And I like the asari counselor.
Besides, maybe if you save the Rachni Queen they'll help you in Mass Effect 3! (Ok, ok, wishful thinking, but hey, it could happen!)
I've never really made a lot of considerations to future consequences of how I played Mass Effect 1 (I didn't know that you could import a character for Mass Effect 2 until I got it, and by then I had 40+ hours on my Mass Effect 1 save and didn't want to restart).

Yeah I didn't know Mass Effect had a morality system until AFTER the first playthrough, but I managed to get the Paragon achievement and ending so I guess that says a lot about how I play videogames...

I usually don't kill the rachni queen but it is fun to tell the Turian Councilor depends on the species turian, that one never gets old.

I let her live in my canon play through.  The fact that an objective scientist said that the rachni are out of control because they didn't have their mother's song to aide them in developing while young played a big part in my decision.  If it were just the Queen telling me this then I would have given her an acid bath.  Considering the Rachni war happened 2000 years ago I'm sure things got distorted about the events of the war and about the Rachni.  It'll be very interesting to see what happens with them in ME3!

I've tried to let her live but finish her off every time. The song and dance she gives to try and convince you to save her is just that - song and dance. And I've seen the little speech her Asari slave...ummm, I mean "servant" gives you in ME2. But if the Rachni queen was so great, why doesn't she tell you where she's at - I mean you did save her and all.

Because if that information leaked somehow, the rest of the galaxy would try to destroy their whole species again. It's actually quite easy to believe that "song and dance".

I couldn't support destroying an entire species, not even in a game. Well maybe the Reapers because they don't like to give you other options.

I'm starting to doubt my decision. On one hand, the rachni are free to do...whatever they do. On the other hand, the Reapers might turn them all into husks, which is worse than death if you ask me.

That's no reason to wipe out their whole race. Aren't they just as likely to help you against the reapers anyway?

Ultimately I guess ME3 will tell us what the "best" decision is, but based on what we've seen so far I believe it would be wrong to destroy the Rachni. Genocide is an ugly choice, particularly when you barely know anything about the Rachni.

I wouldn't dump a vat of acid on a rachni, that would just be nasty. Now if it was boiling peanut oil, i might have been tempted.

I generally eliminate the queen. You have no real reason to believe she's telling the truth at the time of the actual choice, and the rachni are unquestionably dangerous. They already endangered the galaxy once, and only hordes of krogan stopped them.

Yeah, but she was quite understanding about the fact that you could kill her. I don't really see the rachni turning on you. Not within the forseeable future. It was a war, not a genocide that the rachni waged. It was the Council that led the genocide.

I don't think that people should have the power to judge the morality of a race.

That is rather the point of being a Spectre, to be able to make those decisions, is it not?

No. I'm not a murderer and I don't have the authority or experience dealing with their race  to exterminate their them. That conflict is long past over and I don't believe in punishing one for the sins of the forefathers(or mothers in this case)
