She has done nothing to deserve death.  You can't execute people because of what "might" happen.

Commander Shepard is a career soldier who has extensive experience in the field. He would likely view the rachni as a threat or a potential threat to galactic society based on his knowledge of the galaxy's history with the rachni. He would also have no way of knowing if the creature is telling the truth or not. In this case, the best course of action would be to eliminate the threat and not take a huge risk by freeing the creature.

Yes.

An insectoid species that was responsible for total war against the galaxy needs to die.

And humans can be indoctrinated. Do they need to die?

Any species can be indoctrinated. It's not a good argument.

You have to take the game a bit too seriously and immerse yourself in the role to justify killing her rather than releasing her.

If the history of MEU was real then, given what you know at the time, There is no guaranty that the Queen is being straight with you and not just feeding you a line of BS to save herself. She might be telling the truth or she might be planning galactic conquest. You know nothing about her and ridiculously little about the rachni in general,. This 'sour yellow note" is just cryptic nonsense that could mean anything. What you do know is that ever free Rachni you have met has tried to kill you. The entire history of the Rachni is them trying to kill everyone. They can control the dying and breed at inconceivable rates.

Suppose that after hearing the Rachni Queens story for the first time and you believe every word. That their entire race fell prey to "voices of oily shadow" that forced them to go to war with the rest of the galaxy. A war that lead to the near extinction of every space fairing race. That, if not for the Krogan, there would be no Asari, no Salarians, no Quarians, no Turians, no Elcor, no Hanar, no Volus, no Batarians, no Drell all because the Rachni heard a "sour yellow note". Is there any assurance that this note isn't still out there? Can you be certain the "voices of oily shadow" will not force this queen and her children to wage war on the galaxy once again?

IMO, the risks are simply too great and the unknowns too sweeping to release her. It's too dangerous. Besides, the purpose of the Spectre's is to maintain galactic stability  not destabilize it.... you still feel like a total d^ck afterwards though.

I have never killed her. Bugs are writing songs about everyone of my Shepards.

Well said.  ^^

Extinction makes me sad. I even hate killing the Thorian.

Plus, the ME3 incarnation is just a whole pile of wtf?

I let her live in my 1st playthrough. She seemed honest, and I don't like extinction.

I killed her though in my second playthrough because my Shep there is a bit more Renegade and is not too trusting.

I only tend to kill her when playing renegade but seeing as most of my playthroughs are Paragon she lives in most of them

No, I always let her live. Even if some things she does are creepy (speaking through the dying asari or the dead Krogan... yikes...), she's not unreasonable. She's the first to tell you to kill her children when they're beyond saving, and she does offer her assistance in 3.

Tend to let her live. But not necessarily in 3.

Paragon = lives, renegade = sometime dies. They are a balance versus the cured Krogan post ME3 so if either of them goes on a galactic conquest the Citadel forces will ally with the opposite side and vice versa. Unless they team up but I doubt that.

I know sparing her comes in handy in ME3, and I know it's "right thing" to do, and "Genocide bad, Humanism good" etc. But come on we're roleplaying keyword being role.

Imagine yourself standing there on a platform, having heard of horrors of Rachni wars, having *just* witnessed what underdeveloped, unorganized, feral Rachni are capable of. And suddenly you find out that they are capable of communicating on some sort of telepathic frequencies, and forming an intelligent thought(thus deception, hypocrisy etc.), they can telepathically possess bodies. Now this creature, that you totally have cornered and at your mercy(thus she has every reason to lie) tells you that she's the last of her kind and starts spewing some pacifistic hippie BS about singing kumbayas around the campfire. Do you see any scenario where letting her go free is a good idea. I agree that game railroads you into making a decision there and then, but letting her go outright is as bad as it gets. It's criminal incompetence at best and treason at worst. I mean, I know its supposed to teach the player about the sanctity of life and all that good stuff, but this sort of behavior IRL would get you killed in no time. And for once I'd like to see player's blind generosity come back and bite you on the ass.

It is much safer to just kill her. The Rachni are a dangerous race, and I could not take the chance of them starting another war.

Always had her live and most likely always will. Except for my Renegade Shepard who killed her...pretty brutal.

The queen had nothing to do with the war that happened centuries ago. I can't condemn her to death for something she didn't take apart of but of what her species took part of...not very fair.

Also, in ME3, she kept her promise of basically disappearing and tending to the "children."

But the Reapers found them and kinda just...demented them, nothing she could do.

I always wished that the rachni queen would start a colony in Port Hanshan, similarly to the xenomorph queen did in Aliens.
