I like using the Cain ONLY when I have the 100% increase from upgrades and leg piece. And sometimes there is glitch at the end of the mission where the ammo is replenished!

But usually I stick with the Arc.

I did like the arc projector against a certain self-repairing colossus.

I hardly use them, but Avalanche was my favorite of the bunch.

Cain. Really I have no need of heavy weapons, but the one shot wonder is great for shortening long boring battles like the end boss, the reaper iff core, praetorian's etc.

Never use the heavy weapon myself, so I pack the Firestorm 'cause it's small and looks good.

The flamethrower for vanguard and the "Black Hole" gun for Soldier.

If I need to get serious, I usually take the Avalanche. Otherwise, I'll bring the Cain in case I want things to get very silly indeed.

The only one I would actually use is the Collector Particle Beam, if I had any others equipped I'd usually forget they were there.

By far the Arc Projector, you can use it in most situations but with the final boss it does nothing , but no one has mentioned that it slows husk down to about 80 - 90% of the normal speed i always take it with me on Horizon , derelict reaper , Tali's RM, collector base and the N7 , husk mission it gives you time to breath with husk swarming you with one trigger pull, you can stop a whole heard of husk or any other enemy or at least strip the defenses

Firestorm

Although the Avalanche gets props for being the absolute most awesome gun in the game...  the Arc Projector for being slightly OP, and the Blackstorm for when you aren't an Adept but really really want to cast Singularity.

Arc Projector is the all around best. It's good on ammo, useful on multiple types of enemies, tears through droids/geth (can't think of doing Overlord or Tali/Legion's Loyalty quests without it), and it stuns.

The Cain for those rare times when you absolutely cannot and will not allow a large health meter to tell you how long the battle should take.

Arc Projector, the AoE on that thing is just ridiculous.

Cain for spanking the huge butts into submission.

Usually I try to avoid using heavy weapons as much as possible but I'll give the Avalanche a few more tries. I've got Derelict Reaper coming up on a hardcore Vanguard playthrough and I've heard rumors that the snowcannon is pretty awesome there.

Avalanche is propably my favourite. Cuts through defenses like butter, has awesome firerate and great ammo capacity. Second choice is either the Grenade Launcher or Collector Particle Beam. And it's always fun to nuke the final boss twice with the CAIN.

But really I don't really use heavy weapons that much. They're not that necessary. And I have this weird habit of conserving any limited resources as much as possible. Usually to the point that they just sit there, useless.

I think the IFF mission would be much better with the grenade launcher just because you get whole platoons of husks charging you and the Cain/CBW would be nice for those occasions when you absolutely, positively have to kill every 'trucker in the room, no exceptions.

Arc projector Mwahaha!

Kills vorcha in one hit... on insanity/hardcore they are hard to kill so fast for me.
I havent used the missile/grenade launcher much though.

Collector beam i find also very very good bring down individual targets super fast.

Avalanche is interesting on grunt's loyalty mission as there lots of enemies that it helps to have frozen - those rachni looking things that explode when they die.

edit:

Arc projector is good at killing warships.

Try using on insanity against Husk on Reaper IIF and Horizon, it strips the armor and they move like they are 100yr old men pushing walkers , no threat at all then.
Couple of shots or melee punches and they are laid to rest
Love it lol

If you have LOTSB, stasis is also a very good power on IFF.

It stuns the scions, and they take ages to get up after they fall down, and also husks after the statis fall over and die (most of the time).

Im waiting to get Adv. training research for my new adept (as it seems to be missing from character creation/import screens as bonus power)

edit: but yes, AP great vs husks + a shockwave (or similar).
Though less useful when you are surrounded.

arc projector is my fav.

I take cain to deal with praetorean on the collector ship mission and the final stage in the iff mission cuz i hate dealing with husks.

I take the missile launcher only to get the ymir's to come to me and not destroy the crates at Aria's side mission (can't remember name).

I loved the blackstorm when i wasn't playing adept. but don't really use it much now.

I mostly use the ML-77, simply because i can arch it around cover, dealing large amounts of damage while receiving none. Very useful on insanity.

Arc projector, as many have stated, because it looks cool on Shepard's back and is actually useful for striping defenses:wizard: and cain for the suicide mission against the human reaper.

Provided the terminator doesn't suddenly shift positions as it's fired, essentially dodging the projectile.

The Arc Projector is the beast heavy weapon in my opinion. It is just so damned versatile. It is useful against just about anything, most especially if you have an infiltrator's cloak. It is almost unfair how quickly you can kill groups of enemies, like in LOTSB when the commandos come in on the platforms. I feel bad for the poor SOB's.
