I think the most balanced weapon is the Collector Particle Beam. It's pretty accurate, doesn't do much damage, but it's rate of fire makes up for that.

Obviously the most powerful is the Cain, and I would use against the reaper larva except for the fact that it takes SO F***ING LONG FOR THE ROUND TO REACH IT'S TARGET!

The arc projector is damn good though. Seeing as how there aren't fixed gun emplacements (like modern .50 cals), it could probably fill the shoot-a-bunch-of-infantry-in-the-least-amount-of-time-even-if-you-don't-kill-them role.

The cryo thing? I can only find a use for it in Mordin's loyalty mission. Freezing all those krogan as they charge down the ramp after you incinerate that dude actually helps a lot.

The missile launcher would be really good if not for the same problem the Cain has: the rounds are really slow. I think it's best use is for engaging targets at long range, much like a LAW.

The grenade launcher is good for blasting clumps of enemies advancing upon your position. I find that it's actually really useful even though it's the starting weapon. That reminds me- I hate how the avenger is the worst AR, it's the coolest looking!

Let's see, which one am I forgetting? Ah, yes, the flamethrower. Hehehe. Well, we all know that the flamethrower is just there to have fun with. If you find yourself in a position where you actually need to use the flamethrower, and you're not a U.S. soldier burning Nips out of their tunnels on Okinawa, then something is wrong.

Anyway, the BEST heavy weapon would probably be the particle beam, but they all have their uses.
Hehehe, flamethrower, hehehe.

I actually found a decent use for the Firestorm - against the Oculus. Everything goes down to short range when Shepard's ducking among the cover in the hold.

Meh, ... Handguns are better versus the Ocolus than that Flamespitter thingy imo. The only thing it has to it is it tiny and therefore looks less bulky on ones back.

For me, it's the Arc projector and the Avalanche.
The first one, a bit OP, hurts and stuns everyone.
The second one has great RoF and can turn tight packs in frost in no time. The parking lot fight in LotSB gets really easy with it... Oh, and I've seen it obliterating the two scions on Horizon o__0

Finally, they both look cool on Shepard :)

I usually use the Cain on the Oculus- it saves time so I can see my ship blast the f*** out of the Collectors. Never thought of using the avalanche on Scions though. I 'll have to try it next time.

I love how in the cut scenes (especially when you're going to recruit Archangel) how the mercs and, in that case, the freelancers, just waste heavy weapon ammo for almost no reason.

I take Collector weapon. Not because it is really good against bosses but because it is good at clearing some enemies you REALLY want dead fast. As a Vanguard, It has its uses - kill few people fast then grab shotty\\Mattock, Charge and let 'em have it.

I recently started a new soldier , just to play Arrival and to do a different build and try some things I haven't done before, like I haven't used the Avenger rifle since I got the game for 360 when it 1st dropped , I would normally use it till I could get the Revvy, or once the Mattock came out after Freedoms Progress I would drop it and grab the Mattock ,so this time around I choose not to pic the Mattock , stay with the Avenger which I kno is under classed but I having a blast with it , its so challenging, I feel like I'm playing the game for the 1st time again it takes skill to kill with this weopon on insanity, but my real surprise was the Firestorm , holy s*** , that thing is freak n great! , I normally grab the Arc projector , but pick the Avalanche which is cool too, until I got to Zaeeds LM , I normally switch it out to the ArcPro , but said what the hell try it , I think I used it once but hardly used it , but this time , I said more CQC , with hvy weapons I would take out the shields of mechs then fry 'em with the Firestorm , krogan ,vorcha and varren , left them BBQ'd , Blue Sun didn't stand a chance on Grunts RM, I can't believe that it has the lowest base dmg of all the hvy weapons , its so cool , just thought I would share my fanboy excitement

I never use heavy weapons, as I always feel like I'm kinda cheating when I do, and that I need to save them for some bigger, better occasion. I did, however, use the Cain against the final human reaper.

arc projector. there are so many more shielded enemies in the game than any other and it becomes a lifesaver in certain situations. a few that come to mind are kasumi's dlc mission as well as the latest arrival mission. when time is running out and you are stuck against all those enemies and ymir? that arc projector is your new best friend. some others are LotSB, Overlord, Haestrom (though I swap it out for the cain right before the collosus fight), talis loyalty, thanes recruitment, and the list just goes on.

it can also be useful on biotic barriers, itll just take a few more hits. still i prefer the partical cannon when fighting them. when it comes to armor - flamethrower, no question especially since a lot of armored enemies have a crazy health regen rate
