my guess is that they think the search function is pointless and they what many topics asking the same guestions

Its not the best Search I have seen. But for those missing it you can still access it via the below link for the time being.

Any update on this I can't do anything due to a crap ton of Phantom files. I even went as far to delete my account here and register it, but it remembers it :/Jeff Rousell wrote...

No, this is only forum changes and security fixes. The phantom screenshot issue can't be fixed through website changes. But it's currently being worked on by another team and will likely be fixed next week.

I would like to delete and re-create my bioware account to get rid of the phantom screenshots. My concern is how will this effect my registered in-game content? (content gained from Dragon Age Journeys/Legends, and promos from DA2. Mass Effect 2, etc). If I re-create my account will all of that data return? I am figuring I will lose all of my profile achievements but that is okay if I can upload data again I just don't want to lose my bonus/registered game content.

you can delete it without a problem, you will keep everything its linked to your EA account, but it doesn't help, I think the storage is linked to our serial keys.

Any news about why the search box disappeared and if it's coming back?
The search function on the old forum was much better, with the option to either search inside topic titles or posts, but no search is even worse.
To search the Bioware forums is the first thing I do if I want some ideas or clues if I have a question regarding the games I play (Baldur's Gate mostly). Only if search doesn't give an answer, I make a topic. But there's always so much information stored in old topics. What do we do without search?
As said above, it's nice to point noobs to BG to the search function or old topics you find if they have a question. Sometimes you want to answer, sometimes you just wish they did some searching first. And what if they can't use the search? The same sort of questions get asked all the time.

@ Son of Imoen: The search is back. It was temporarily disabled due to heavy traffic when DA2 came out.
You can also use Google with results limited to this site (use site:social.bioware.com before the search parameters). It is sometimes even more useful as it searches through the content of the thread and not only the title - it also gives more recent results.

OK, thanks. I can see it now. I had forgotten it uses the word 'go' instead of 'search'. But using Google is even more useful, thanks for the tip!

I know this has kind of gone cold, but I PMed Jeff Rousell yesterday and asked if there was a solution to the Phantom Screenshot problem for those of us that still play DA:O or if it was a dead issue. This is the response I got from him:
"There is a solution coming for this very soon. By very soon I mean no more than 1 week. The group in charge of the back end storage servers made a change last week that will allow these phantom files to be deleted. We just need to add functionality to the website that allows you to delete these files from your profile diagnostic page."
He said he hasn't provided any official feedback as of late because he doesn't have a firm date yet, but they are working on it. I'm guessing DA:O related items are probably low on the priority list right now, but I'm hoping a solution will come for this in the near future. <fingers crossed>

What about any new URL pointers to the data stored in the archived old Legacy Forums, since for some reason every bookmark has now been remapped to point at newer pages? (OK, edited a day later, now we do at least know the reason for the sudden change, but how will it affect things over the longer term?)
