its been along time since i played the baldurs gate games but from memory if you lockpicked a chest and stole the contence you would be caught stealing and the guards would be on you

yet as of late ive just been walking around unlocking chests and taking wat i please even when a noblemen or peasant is staring right at me
is there a way to fix this? or does the first game of baldurs gate allow you to steal everything in sight, because i remember i saved allot in the past due to trying to steal stuff from homes

this is the only thing ive notised so far everything else in the game works like a charm

In my game some NPCs don't react to stealing as well so I think it is normal. But did you try to steal in Candlekeep on the second floor where the nobleman stands? That triggers an alarm in my game.

It should trigger a reaction, but then again it depends on how you do it. If an NPC in a house has a direct line of sight on you, but not on the unlocked container you're pilfering, you can pilfer as you please without a reaction. There are also a few occasions where NPCs don't react to pilfering a formerly locked chest. None usually seem to care if you're snatching their possessions out of unlocked containers. One exception is a certain Baldur's Gate City house where if you take something from a table and then save a person's life by casting "Stone to Flesh" on him, he'll immediately call for the authorities on you...

But are you saying that you simply never see a reaction in any instance? For that I don't have a suggestion.

@Metelesku i haven't progressed that far in the game yet so im unsure

@Byryaen Yes that what i ment at no instance has anyone reacted to me stealing there goods even when i unlock a chest and take some expensive goods with them clearly in my line of sight.

But strangely i have also noticed instead of civilians reporting me to guards when i fail to pick pocket them they just become a enemy and walk around like idiots, i thought civilians who don't/cant fight you report you to the guards if you fail to pickpocket them?

anyway i assume whatever active script for the AI is broken there might be a way to fix it when i investigate this further.
