So how many people here are actully against apostates because ive noticed hostility towards them lately and i thought that they should have freedom from the Circle?

I think the Circle should have more freedom to govern itself as opposed to the Chantry holding the leash. I don't like that the Chantry is the group in control because they have an agenda (they teach that magic is evil).

However, I do think circles need to exist because Mages are dangerous. I love mages (it's the only class I play), but given the circumstances, there's no way they should just be allowed to go free.

Apostates are fine, but when they act ignorantly in the pursuit of power (power is fine if the pursuit is intelligent divined) then it just becomes a malificarum issue.

Now I recognize we all like blood magic and it may be extremely useful (who here can truly say it's necessary to survive as a mage?) to a mage but even THAT should be kept under tight wraps from the Templar because they aren't so much evil (misguided yes, and perhaps corrupt in some forms) in the majority, as many times they do take out the evil "mages" seeking power for their own gain and to harm or hurt others for their own gain.

Abominations on the other hand, are demons and should be killed.

Okay i agree With you both they sould be somewhat controlled but not taken away from their familys i mean like post a templar or two in their town if you think they're trouble dont ruin their lives.

I'm all for mages freedom, but a free mage might become a maleificar, and a loose maleificar isn't good... I think the Circle should have more freedom though, and they should make Mage cities where the mages can be watched over and their families can come too.

The circle is needed, letting mages run around free is just a time bomb waiting to explode. Though the Chantry does not need to govern the circle.

Posted ImagePosted ImageI don't necessarily have a problem with them going to the Circle, but I think family visitation could be implemented or something like that.  It kind of reminds me of Star Wars.  Originally, Jedi weren't allowed to have families because attachment can lead to a fear of loss, which leads to the dark side, yadayadayada.  Luke Skywalker changed this system when he formed the New Jedi Order to allow this because he felt that denying things like family obviously hadn't stopped what had happened in the past.  Plus, you can never really eliminate the risk of possession (back on mages now).

Frankly I don't think there is anything wrong with Blood Magic  itself, it was simply abused by the Imperium.

You can't really claim that free range mages are somehow inherently dangerous. The Tevinter Imperium ruled most of the world with free range mages running the show and, besides the power hungry blood mages with their sacrifices and the eventual ruination by the outside influence of the Darkspawn, they seemed to do quite well.

This is Dragon Age. A mage is an individual who becomes an individual problem. The way the Chantry acts it's like it's Warhammer 40k and every mage is a potential Exterminatus order.

And it would be abused again if mages were allowed to use it freely, like it or not, there is a reason the Chantry limits such things.

It appears to me that Blood Magic itself isn't necessarily bad, but the worst comes from its association with demonology.

And that's bad.

They should be slaughtered in the name of the maker. They're too dangerous to be running free and killing people with blood magic.

IMHO opinion mages should always be treated as they were in Dragonlance & Forgotten Realms.

Let them govern themselves. Fear them,Respect them, but do not try to OWN them. I feel the same way about dragons too.

Do not mettle in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Mages can be dangereous and that's a fact. Magic can be evil and that's a fact. The Chantry does not lie but I mean it depends of indivduals. Like since Anders is a little crazy in real life I would not want him walking the streets. Same thing will killer or robber, do you want them walking aorund because they have the gift of theft and murder??? *_*

I agree with Anders in awakening when he says mages shouldn't be imprisoned for being born the way they are.

Actually Blood Magic is not even tied to  Demons and spirits, it may (key word, may )  have been taught by Old Gods and or demons but it doesn't call on them or spirits.

Actually they should, since many mages will abuse their power if given the chance.

Now that is just classism(discriminating based on one class in a rpg), and in now way is true.
If a person prone to mischief is born a mage, warrior, rogue doesnt matter for they will pursue what they want no matter the means to the end.

Most Mages we meet outside of enemies don't seem like power abusing folk.

Or more logically they should be training Mages to enter the fade to fight Demons. Also training these Mages to hunt problematic Mages. Rather than have a religious order oppressing them.

I have no real opinion, magic politics aren't really my thing.

Of course thats assuming they don't come after anyone close to me. I'd be more than happy to stick a two handed sword in Avelline's head like an axe in a wood stump if she even just looks at Bethany wrong.

I'm actually going to be playing a mage first, because I want to play from the prospective of an apostate.
