I just bought Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition. I installed it from the disk and logged in to my EA account, I start new game, Human Noble Warrior. I play for a couple of minutes and it crashes to desktop. No error message at all. This last time I tried I couldn't even load up the game I started it up and on the main menu it just crashed to desktop without an error.

Computer Info:
Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 2
Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 GHz
Memory: 4.00 GB
64 bit operating system
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240

I don't know what other information I need to give just let me know and I'll try to figure it out. I looked around the forum and didn't find an answer to my question. It's kind of frustrating since I bought the game expecting it to play fine and now it keeps crashing to desktop and doesn't even give an error.

Please help.

I tried again and this time the game just froze after leaving the initial starting room. I couldn't do anything so I CTRL + ALT + DELETE it said program is not responding. I stopped it manually and it gave the error that Dragon Age Origins stopped working.

I suggest a full, clean, uninstall/reinstall of your Nvidia display driver using the latest update (266.58). A how-to is linked to my sig. If that doesn't work, I suggest you use something like the free CPUID HW to monitor your temps, especially that GT240.

Worse case, uninstall and install the game again. Before doing so, make sure DX9 is up-to-date.

EDIT:  addiing... if you have the additional Nvidia System Tools (formally nTune) installed for overclocking, lose it.  It's crap with the new cards ;)

I have heard reports of people having problems running DAO with overclocked cards. May not be true.

Do I still have to do the driver thing even though just yesterday I had just Dragon Age Origins installed and it was working fine without no problems? After I uninstalled it and installed the Ultimate Edition I started having these problems.

Also I don't have an overclocked computer or anything.

Your choice... just making suggestions.

Also, do you have any mods installed in the game?

Sounds like a problem w/ the game it self.  Suggest reinstall of game.  Also, you don't have to uninstall the standard edition to install the Ultimate just to let you know.

Yeah, but EA customer support isn't great.  Maybe contact Chris Priestly and he may be able to find you help.

Wait... I just processed that.  You had a previous verison of Origins on the machine?  If so, I suggest you back up any saved games, uninstall UE, and use something like CCCleanup to remove any left over registry keys-- after you restart.  ONLY remove ones related to Dragon Age... I'd hate to have you nuke your OS.  They may not even be there.

Then, confirming they're gone, reinstall UE, and try it again.  I would try to load UE once and see if it works before putting any saves back into the "Characters" folder.

Wrong.  Several people have had issues installing UE over a previous installation.  Read the forum.

Are you discs scratched or dirty?  Could it be that?

Where did you install the game? In Vista, you'll need to install it in the My Games folder or a folder like C:/ games or something like that. You also know, I hope, that you can right click the .exe file and choose run as admin.

If you un-install the game, remember to re-start your computer. This will clear out any old remains still hanging in the registry.

Also this:
Have you tried removing the cd-key for your normal version of dragon age: origins? I mean, from your registered games...

Well the game automatically installs in the C:/ drive and into the games area. I'll try running the .exe as admin see if that helps although I am the admin. I never registered the other CD key it belonged to a friend and I just tested it out on my computer to see if it would run properly and at a good framerate.

FML

Finally finished installing, got into the game. Got to the part where the red head tells me about the dog and Nan wanting to leave again, and it froze mid way through the conversation.

Any more ideas? Is their an e-mail I can ask for help directly to someone?

How do I send a question to support.ea.com? I see the section for "My Questions" but I don't see anything about sending the question in. Any help would be appreciated.
