Bioware is all about telling great stories.
MMORPGS is the total oppsite of that. Just addicting the player as long as possible to wring out the most amount of money possible from the player.
Stories don't fit into the MMORPG financial model, because stories have an ending.
Apparently, BioWare's SW:TOR has roughly 8 fully-voiced, fully-fleshed out stories with endings. I'm very curious
to see if they live up to this promise, and furthermore to see what they do after the stories end.
Yes, I'm excited to see how it pans out. But I fully expect Bioware to drop the ball on this one. In the end its still all about the money. And if they make an MMO with a story-arch that players can finish, they will soon lose players and the game servers will eventually close. The thing that might save them is if they manage to create pvp experience good enough for players to stay until the next expansion is released. Which I guess is fully possible.
I still think though, that they eventually have no choice but to revert to the old style MMO addiction element in order to keep players interested. Lets hope not, but I won't allow myself to get excited before I vitness it in action.
After WOW I promised myself that I will never play games that are not possible to finish. They are a huge timesuck that leaves you with nothing in the end IMO.
