A good MMO can't be played on a console. MMOs never require high end hardware to play so I don't see the problem. MMOs are always built so that the average joe can play it on his average computer.

Like...Age of Conan and Champions Online?

Yes.

To be honest with the right ideas mashed in it could easily give WoW a run for its money, keeping in the immersion of questing where you can choose a personality to reply with which could affect your rewards or future quests making it a lot more immersive than everyone doing the same quests, the storeyline would be rather epic you could be citizens following in the wake of the champions from the games, taking their examples to do good that way no massive effect would take place in the game, it would be people taking up arms and doing what they can, hey they could even use it as a follow on form 2 where people can be circle mages, templars, you name it following in the wake of the chaos.
Instead of flat out guilds people could join factions such as they did with the mercenaries and smugglers, guards, all sorts which you could build guilds into with tight knit groups of an organisation, this would mean your companions as in other players would be like minded people from similar factions, this again would take out the need for 2 sided grudges like alliance and hord blah blah blah instead having a melting pot for chaos and fun pvp could be in areas that could be fighting for control of the streets, a gang may want it for their factions criminal enterprise, or a guard for safety, or smugglers so the merchants get them better deals, instead of emblems they can use the current symbol on a shield or cloak to represent standing, the old daoc system of dying clothes, the mmorpg could easily run in tandem with the one player games, a game released that then adds a new update to the game, new areas and quests which could build up lore for future games, people rising up in arms, quests causing damage to places such as the blackmarsh which could be exploited by champions in those storey systems, just because a game is turned into a mmorpg does not mean it has to be ruined, if they keep in the feel and immersion we all love with the ability to do things freely as we all love, it could be amazing... as long as EA doesnt take control, they ruined DAOC as they do with most games

players are way too optimistic if they think that DA could work as an MMO

No. Just... no. MMORPGs are so severely dependant on meeting the right people (and those having a non-clashing schedule), I might just as well find myself a P&P round again. Oh wait, I can't...

Besides, I've watched friends playing WoW enough times to know that many people playing these things are doing anything but role-playing. Very few take the time and actually develop the personality of their character, they even don't refer to their character by name, only calling them "my baba", "my tank", "my healer", "my DD" when talking to others about them. And when they talk about their aims in the game, it's all about collecting a new item/pet/a chopper...

So no, I'd like to keep the RP in the RPG, and I'd like to keep it single-player.

you must live a very sheltered life I suppose, the reason other mmorpgs are not role played is because they are not made to be immersive or role played such as dragon age, they are made simply for fun and to make money, dismissing something because you do not like other games is a fairly closed minded statement, it is the same as saying they should not have made dragon age in the first place because sonic is no longer as popular as it used to be, it is not the same game, it is not the same aim, it is something completely different and a lot of people are crying out for a mmorpg of a game as well made as this for one simple reason, so the storey and the fun does not end after 2 weeks, a mmorpg would be good if made right, just because you do not enjoy other games does not mean it is a good idea, it is as solid an argument as a christian in a logic convention

Unless your doing a mmo run in the Gauntlet style, it'll fail. Just look at the abysmal final fantasy.

Not really - WoW isn't the only one I've taken a look at - but in the end the principle behind MMORPGs is always the same. Get bigger guns/swords/armour/ships/whatever to be able to kill the next boss. I've almost never met anyone who was actually interested in in-game lore or the story.

And that is actually why I enjoy in games very much - story, lore, characters. I also like playing whenever I feel like it, and not at some preset time once or twice a week where my enjoyment of the game hinges on other people. How am I supposed to know if I'd like to play a computer-game next friday? Maybe I'd rather spend the evening with friends or read a book? Maybe I my muse will come back from whichever place DA2 has scared her off to, and I'll finally write another chapter of my fanfic?

I don't really see how a DA MMORPG would be any different - and I think you have completely missed the point of my earlier post. I dislike depending on other people. I play games to unwind and get out of my own head for a while by becoming my character, aka role-playing. Not possible in a MMORPG.

I see no need to read the rest of this post. To put it bluntly: not a damn chance.

I like mmorpg, i really do. I play them often.

But. Please No. Please not with Dragon Age: ANYTHING.

It already has turned more into the killing than the story.... don't. hurt. it. more.

blame the killing change on EA, they take every game they have and focus on flashy elements ruining the games core

I can understand EA wants to try and tap a market that is more miss than hit, but the thing is that I know it will take away valuable time and resources away from the Dragon Age series. This is what I believed happened to DA2 with their venturing into the facebook gaming. The development time for DA2 was already short enough considering they were going to re-tool everything, but then use your people to set up a facebook game?
