I just wondered if anyone else had noticed that the sound mix seems to be very dynamic like a film? I'm assuming this isn't a quirk of the demo. While there are volume controls for the sound effects, music and dialogue, I find it hard to hear the background ambient sounds such as the wind whistling in the blight lands or the sounds of Kirkwall at night. If I crank the volume to hear ambient sounds then the action scenes are far too loud for my tastes, and even reducing the volume of the three elements above, and increasing the volume of my amp, doesn't bring out the background sounds. I do have a work around due to the fact my receiver has dynamic range control, though as a result while I can then clearly hear the background ambience, any dialogue spoken seems to unnaturally reduce the ambient sounds. I am aware this is due to compression and a result of the DRC, but it seems a shame I can't tweak the individual sound elements to better mix the audio to my taste. Even going as far back as games like BG2 there are controls for dialogue, background, sound effects and music. It seems a shame that DA2 is missing one of those.
I suppose this is something that wouldn't be changed now, unless the PC version can be tweaked via a config file, though I'm getting it for the 360 so that wouldn't apply in my case. I also don't have a problem with such a dynamic mix, but it would be nice to be able to tweak it a little. Usually that's a strength of computer games, compared to films where you're stuck with the levels as they are.
