I was wondering if u could change the controls on the pc-version to match the ones on the xbox 360? So far I haven't been able to toogle the controls to match the 360's, but I thought that any of u might know. Would also be great to hear an answer to  this from the officials, since it's gonna decide if I go for the 360 version or the pc version. To try and put it short, can u make the pc-version play like the 360-version with the third-person camera and the button pressing combat system?

Thanks in advance

You are playing a PC game. PC gamers use mouse and keyboard due to its superiority over analog.

Console war aside, of course not.The PC UI is built for a mouse and keyboard. Sure you could hook up your 360 controller but it'd be probably the most clunky gameplay experience imaginable.

I know, which is also the reason why I have origins on the pc and ME2 on the 360. But just really want to do it this way due to the superiority of the graphics on the pc.

Still want to know if it is possible to replicate the exact controls with a gamepad like the 360 controller? Or if I would just end up with a game where the cursor is controlled with the analog stick?

Pfft. Using XPadder, I was able to turn carpel tunnel inducing gameplay in Mass Effect to the simplicity of a controller and I honestly couldn't tell any difference from playing on my 360.

Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 felt better with a mouse and keyboard on the PC.

For Dragon Age 2: the die-hard PC elitists claim the controls are simplified in ths PC version to match the consoles so it should be easier to make it feel like playing on a console.

Controls and UI are not the same.

Yes DA2 controls more for console playing, but the actual PC UI is most certainly not, and simply plugging in a controller will NOT change the UI suddenly.

Is it possible to turn auto-attacking off in the pc-version?

I am very interested in playing DA2 with my xbox controller. I personally enjoy playing this game on a recliner in my home theatre set up (on my pc of course) than hunched over my desk. is the mouse and keyboard more accurate? sure, but we are not playing CoD, so whats it matter? I want comfort and the lack of support for the xbox controller on the PC is disappointing.

Yeah let's face it - this game is NOT the complex RPG that we loved. The UI has obviously been built for the consoles... so I am guessing that the controls will have been too (no isometeric camera... the arses). I am surprised that you can't tab through the skill trees. One really quick fix they could make is allow the xbox controls on the PC version.

I have seen this trend for years.

I am going to use Pinnacle Game Profiler to try and profile the controls. Clearly the game was suppose to be played with the switched off and laid back, thumb twitching style of a console game.
(Because DA:O was received lukewarmly on the console and hailed on the PC. So the obvious solution is to build the sequel from scratch with the consoles in mind! I am sick of this happening to my favorite games (see thief:deadly shadows for the last betrayal... I was still hurting from that, until this happened).

What then really takes the biscuit is that they muck about with the winning formal for a great PC game to sell more console copies (though I suspect cost cutting is also involved) and then don't bother to include the xbox control mappings in the PC version of the game, grrrr!

I wouldnt mind using the controller to play aswell, by the looks of it you get a better experience with the game on console.

if you type runscript addtalent 1 it adds an attack choice to quickslot 1. I use xpadder to configure my xbox 360 controller to use with da 2. I then assigned quick slot 1 to x, slot 2 y, slot 3 to b, etc. now whenever i press x on controller my char attacks without having to click on enemy or you could just use assign a button for the key R. R allows you to attack  closest enemy and pick up items without using mouse point. i found this out accidentally. im still working to make it better, let you know when i do.

i was also wondering this, not the buttons as such but all i wanted was the movement (or even a remote, i like mouse and keyboard), being able to run around freely and attack anyone.

such as the rogue:
PC:
XBOX:

if you can see, its a little different

There are games like Metro 2033 that automatically change UI to xbox if you have an xbox controller plugged in. I guess the issue here is that EA and Bioware decided to turn a great PC Game (Origins) and transform the sequel into a better console game, but by doing so they have shafted the PC fans who enjoyed playing the game more strategically. To solve this problem instead of reinventing the wheel. Why not just allow the PC fans to use an xbox controller with all the UI and Controller support, just like Metro 2033 and Fallout:New Vegas. Other developers allow the fans to choose why wont Bioware? I QQ but if I had known this I would have purchased this game for my Xbox 360, but based on the previous game (Origins) I chose to stick with PC because of superior graphics. For the next installment of DA I will definitely be more weary.

I would also like to know if the developers care at all about their userbase and allow the 360 UI to be used with a controller. I haven't played more than 15 minutes of this game since I bought it on release because the M&KB feels off to me. Still holding out hope for a simple controller patch.

I was wanting to remind the devs of the terrible mistake not taking the miniscule amount of time making a quick port of the 360 UI to the PC release.

WTF ? You want the game to be even more "consolish" ?
Hell no. You want to play with 360 UI then play it on 360 - simple as that.

I want the graphics of the PC version, but a game suited for a controller, should be played with the controller. The M&KB UI is an afterthought and doesn't fit the game at all. The PC is for getting the best of all worlds, but Bioware is trying to disguise a console only game as a PC game for those that hate consoles. It's ridiculous but easy to see through the smoke and mirrors.

Also has there been any official word from EA/Bioware on why they haven't fixed this console port with a proper patch to make it playable on PC?

Since this thread doesn't seem to be going away, I"m going to throw the zombie a bone and say there is a patch being developed currently to address issues. I'm not sure if improving the PC UI to be controller friendly is on that list, but it may be something to keep your eye on as part of what the patch covers.

Any hope is good hope. I would really like to dive into this game, but I can't bring myself to.
