Your Shepard -- Life After Reapers

1. The Reapers are dealt with by the end of ME3.
2. Shepard isn't required to make a "heroic sacrifice" to do so.
3. There is in fact a viable universe after the events of ME3.
Now that the salad is out of the way, let's move on to the meat and potatoes: what would your Shepard(s) do with their lives after having seen the big ugly space lobsters off to the netherworld or wherever dead things go? Would s/he go on vacation, would s/he go right back to tidying up the galaxy, or would s/he retire and raise a family? If the former two, which faction would s/he roll with -- Alliance, Council, Cerberus? Goodwood is very interested in what various folks might want to do with their characters.
Kiria Shepard: Most likely she'd take a nice, long vacation with Liara to some little-known paradise hidden away somewhere in asari space, then go back to running covert ops in her own sweet time.
Diana Shepard: Covertly work with Liara (as SB) to spark a batarian civil war designed to destroy that species as a viable galactic threat, then freeing all their slaves and bringing some modicrum of stability to the Terminus Systems. All whilst keeping the Citadel Council in the dark as much as possible.
Laera Shepard: Settle down, raise a family with Liara (at least two asari kids, and possibly some adopted war orphans, maybe even a biological child through a donor), and take covert missions for the Council only if they ask nicely.

Bruce Shepard: Goes pirate with Jack and later they get a child

For instance, Leah Shepard would like to continue and try to make a difference, with Kaidan at her side, but whom will they be working for? alliance, council, none of the above?
Will Jewel Shepard remain a consummate professional, or will something or someone finally shatter her composure?
will Simone Shepard part ways with Garrus, or will she find a way to raise more havoc, will she return to alliance, or restructure Cerberus, will she mellow down or harden?
Will Jade Shepard finally find her inner center and stop doubting herself, or will she burn out from stress and end up in some institution being treated for severe PTSD, whom will she pick - Kaidan, Jacob or none of the above.
and that's not even starting on my mensheps, even Jensen, who has an advantage of someone clearer relationship future with Liara is not sure.
so yeah, it will really depend.

Lorna Shepard: Pushes for full Spectre re-instatement but quits the Alliance military, sets her operational base on the SB ship, using the SB's resources to encourage galactic collaboration. Has several lovely blue-skinned daugthers who inexplicably inherit her emerald green eyes, stirring the honeypot of asari genetics...
Mira Shepard: Fights and obtains formal re-instatement as a Spectre and Alliance Military officer. Pushes humanity's agenda every chance she gets without compromising her Council and Alliance status but keeps a direct line open with TIM. Fosters the rebuilding of Earth and promotes humanity's expansion across the stars and military buildup for the inevitable confrontation with competing aliens.

Extremaly cheesy but pretty much the ultimate happy ending.
Most likely Shepard will die in ME3. You heard it here first.

So, without further discussion:
Elyssa Shepard: Stays with the Normandy, while maintaing a relationship with Liara...maybe there's room to settle down assuming she's burnt out with saving the galaxy while recieving little recognition while dealing with too much resistance. Elyssa is my heroic Shepard so she doesn't forget the tragedy of losing most of her crew and Mordin and Thane...does their memories proud with actions.
Alex Shepard: Hmm...I haven't quite gotten Alex through the game yet...but considering right now he's liking him some Miranda (the definite shallow jerk option, Jack is too much work)...probably he'll continue to pursue her (melt the ice queen) or maybe a liason with a certain quarian once he gets under her suit. Alex is a jerk (a funny one though) and he heads down his path without a care for how others feel so long as he gets the job done. The relationship with Tali due to her immunity issues is the least practical, but also the most satisfying because of her personality, compassion and stammering when she's embarassed; she'd balance out his personality.

Leila Shepard (Earthborn, War Hero, Paragon): She'd probably take a brief vacation, but making the world a better place is what she loves to do. After that, she would take out baddies with Garrus at her side. Garrus would finally achieve Spectre status, so they could roam where they wanted in the Normandy. She'd keep on whatever squaddies wanted to stay on the Normandy. If she ever got the urge to settle down, she'd adopt since she was an orphan herself once.
Jack Shepard (Spacer, Ruthless, Paragade): His career has been up and down, so he'd probably just want a break. If they can work it out, he'd like to settle down with Ashley. She'd be free to continue her career with the Alliance, but he'd probably find something to do as a civilian. I'd see him as the type to just enjoy his free time. Go hiking, exploring- see the world beyond the battle field. Eventually I could definitely see him doting on a bunch of kids.
Not sure about any of my other Sheps though.

Goodwood would be really, really mad at BioWare if this were so.

Once the Reapers are beaten the council and the Alliance will have to rebuild and reestablish whos boss. You think the batarians, pirates or any other terminus badies will play nice becuase humanity and the Citadel took a beating? The party has to end some time.
But enough of the doom and gloom, every ones Shepard gets a vacation!

Uriel Shepard: Take Ashley out to a really nice dinner and beg for her forgiveness for everything. Then ask her to marry him. They both will continue to serve in the Alliance Military carry on mostly a long-distance relationship but taking as much time as possible to be together. Uriel attempts to keep Cerberus away from the spotlight as much as possible, helping them carry out their work in even more secrecy. His efforts are eventually discovered. He is stripped of all rank, is sentanced to prison and Ashely divorces him. In prison, Cerberus operatives break him out and Uriel goes to work for Cerberus full time. Eventually he takes over for the Illusive Man and takes Cerberus in a more tolerant direction. He maintains close friendships with most of his surviving team particularly Jacob Taylor, Garrus Vakarian and Miranda Lawson. He is never unfaithful to Ashley.
Clare Shepard: After the final confrontation Clare slips away unto a small private ship without saying goodbye to her team. She lands undetected upon the Shadow Broker's bace, slips inside, enters Liara's empty quarters, crawls into her bed, conceals herself under the covers and falls asleep. A security team finds her. When they wake her up she incapacitates them by sending their suits into lockdown, takes away their weapons then welds them to the floor. Clare goes back to sleep. When Liara finally enters, exhausted, she is deeply suprised to see her security team helpless and incapacitated. Seeing the lump in her bed she uses biotics to lift Clare from her nap and fling her against a wall. Clare is deeply suprised to be awakened in this way and not at all pleased by the broken leg. Liara, seeing who it was, is mortified and rushes to comfort her lover. Clare lets Liara apply the Omni-gel. After a lengthy discussion on trust Clare decides that she will help Liara maintain peace in the galaxy through the wielding of information not only because it will allow her to spend most her time with her true love but also because it will be fun. Clare spends a great deal of time as a field operative but settles down to an analystic position when she gets too old. She dies of old age with Liara holding her hand.
Quincy Shepard: Quincy returns to the Alliance Military and refuses all promotions. He spends the rest of his years as an N7 agent. He eventually meets a nice Earthborn girl in N7 and marries her. Their short relationship is ended when she is killed on her third mission. Quincy is devestated and proceeds to take ever longer odds on his missions eventually he is killed when the damaged ship he comandeered crashes into a sun.
Theodore Shepard: Whereabouts unkown.

John Shepard - Go on a life-long spectre cruise with his bro4life, Garrus, plus New!Liara and New!Ashley. Legion, Mordin, Wrex and Tali invited, if they have the time. Thane if he's alive. Gather the entire team and pay our respects to Kaidan on the day of his death, every year til the day we die (rest in peace, bro). Also, calibrations.
Iamnotshazam Shepard - Will spend the rest of his days serving as a good example why Shepard's full name will sound weird if named anything else than Jane or John. Sent Conrad to fight the reapers. Conrad won, for some reason. He will also ponder that for the rest of his life. Also, calibrations.

Seriously, though, she'd probably retire and settle down with Liara someplace where they could raise children and live as peaceful a life as possible. Once the kids are grown (or grown enough) Alice would probably grow restless and would try to find some way to put her skills to use helping people. Whether that means taking up the Spectre mantle again or doing things her own way (far more likely), she'd probably be a lot more cautious with herself since she'd have so much to lose.

And pressure. Lots of it.
And sometimes blowing up mercs.
But then some pressure again.
Maybe inviting Shiala once (or twice)...I'm talking about the green Asari, not the stupid actor.

Reports occasionally crop up of a human and asari matching the Commander's and T'soni's description being sighted in the Terminus systems and other planets they've been known to travel, such as Tuchanka or Feros, but none of the reports have been substantiated.
When questioned about such sightings the Commander's former crew mates, Turian SpecTRe Garrus Vakarian, N7 Commander Kaiden Alenko, and Admiral Tali'zorah vas Normandy all had similiar answers. N7 Captain Jacob Taylor summed it up best with "Maybe its best to let dead heroes stay dead." Ironic as Taylor was part of the terrorist team responsible for "resurrecting" Shepard after he was killed in combat 4 years ago.
With an army of Geth, Krogan and Rachni at his back, some have equated Shepard to rogue SpecTRe Saren Arterius. Councilor David Anderson was quoted as saying, "In a way he was. He was charismatic, a SpecTRe, and regarded with high respect by all species. But when he looked into the face of the devil, he didn't blink and thats where it counts."
Monuments have been constructed of Shepard on the Citadel, Tuchanka, Earth, Mindoir, Akuze, Virmire*, Feros, Horizon, Ilos, Illium and Omega in honor of his sacrifice.
*The Virmire monument is a special case because it features Comander Shepard and Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams who gave her life to destroy Saren's cloning facility there.
Finally the wreckage of the original SSV Normandy has been recovered from planet Alchera. It has been semi-reassembled, keeping the battle damages it suffered at the hands of the Collectors, and is currently hanging above the Mass Relay Monument in the Citadel.

Several months later, after the conclusion of the Reaper War, Future Content Corporation news reporter Emily Wong published a news story about a message she received from an anonymous source. The message read "Legends can never die - 5923-AC-2826"
In her report Emily Wong stated that the service code at the end of the message belongs to Lieutenant Commander. Jonathan Shepard. Her news story exploded onto the galactic scene, with people from dozens of species expressing their relief and excitement that the savior of the galaxy may be alive.

Joy Shepard: She'll work with Liara (not her LI) and the Shadow Broker network to create a clandestine organization that's dedicated to maintaining stability in the galaxy (eradicating slavers, preventing large-scale wars, etc.). This Shepard is still plagued with the guilt of sacrificing her crew on Torfan; using that experience, as well as everything that has happened in the series, as motivation to ensure that nobody has to suffer the atrocities of war.

Anna Shepard: After the final confrontation is over Anna will attempt to kill her former team and the Illusive Man because of the threat they pose to her ambitions. Mordin Solus being dead of old age and Thane, being dead of Kepral Syndrome do not pose a significant threat. Anna manages to kill most of them and severely wound the rest. Anna would then leave for the Terminus Systems to become a pirate queen. After amassing a fleet of stolen vessels she would take Omega from Aria. Anna's Omega would devote huge resources to biotic studies. The ultimate goal being the replacement of Anna's faulty L2 implant. Unfortunately, despite all the efforts, this will be found impossible and Anna will switch the primary directive to the creation of extremely powerful biotics. The Teltin-like system that will arise will include and indocrination based element to make all of the supersoldiers created totally loyal to Anna. During this time Anna will systematically unite the warring factions of the Terminus systems and, in her late 70's, launch her attack on Citidael space. When the invasion is successful Anna will set herself up as the queen of the galaxy. Four years later she will be assassinated by a group of Council loyalists led by former team member Garrus Vakarian whom Anna believed she had killed.
