the 9250 is not supported... in theory you have enough video RAM, but the card is around 6 years old and so doesn't have the proper rendering hardware to run the game... time for an upgrade/new system (especially new if your processor and other specs are of a similar age)

Yea, it was mentioned on the box the following:

"AMD 64 1.8ghz [Vista/Win7: 2.2ghz], Intel Core 2 Single 1.6ghz [Vista/Win7:1.8ghz] or equivalent. **Supported video cards: ATI Radeon x850 GT 256MD [Vista/Win7: ATI Radeon X1550 256MD] or greater: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MD [Vista/Win7: NVIDIA GeForce 27600 GT 256MD] or greater. Intel and S3 cards are not offfically supported. Updates to your video and sounds drivers may be required."

As to the new question, a PCI card will not run this game. You need either AGP or PCIe... and if the age of the graphics card is anything to go by, you're going to need a new computer

Newegg lists a couple--it looks like the GeForce 9500 is about the only PCI card that will meet the specs (and then just barely).

But are you sure that your computer has a PCI video card, and not AGP?

Sorry, but as far as I can tell there are no PCI cards capable of running DA:O. You need either PCIe or AGP. Your CPU probably couldn't handle it in any case -- you need a new system.

EDIT: Ha! Live and learn -- the 9500 GT does indeed come in a flavor that supports PCI. It's absurdly expensive and chances are you still need a new PC, but it is compatible.

the GeForce 9500 does meet the specs, but the PCI-bus is insufficent to get proper framerates from the game, what are the rest of your system specs Greg?

Yup, that's for certain. Your motherboard is the spine of your PC. If it only supports the old PCI slots, then you'll have to get a new motherboard to support the new PCIe slots that cards today require.

Sure, you can most likely get away with getting a motherboard that supports AGP but you'd only be shooting yourself in the foot when it comes time to upgrade again.

You can always get yourself a very good motherboard but skimp out on a graphic card by buying a lower end one that will still support Dragon Age. When the time comes for you to upgrade after saving some cash, you can always get a much better card.

Personally, I always like to buy a motherboard that supports the current generation of goodies PLUS the availability of the next generation down the road if it's known what they'll be.

Example would be buying a motherboard that currently supports AMD2 and AMD3 processors BUT saving on cash by getting an AMD2 CPU instead of the new AMD3 ones. Similar route can be taken with graphic cards.

PCIe but perhaps only buy an NVidia 8800GTX instead of the higher end ones available now. Wait a year for these new cards to drop in price and then upgrade to a 9800 GTX or even better.

Plan for the future and save yourself a lot of headaches when it comes time to upgrade.
