Being the creator of the video I found the interface to work just fine and very similar in function to that of Origins. I do pause a lot though, but I did that in DA:O too, I like to think carefully about what I'll do next, and these kinds of game (DA:O and DA2) are very cool to me because they are so tactical and include a pause function.

The mouse seemed kind of inaccurate, I thought that may have been the reason you were pausing so much.

I really only pause when I need to pause. I like to program the AI then leave them to it. With the faster combat it seems like the natural thing to do for me. PS3 version does autopause when you hit an AOE attack , which does help things along.

Noticed you could move while paused on the PC ?

I was on my new mouse which is a bit high in DPI compared to the one it replaced, so yea, there may have been innacuracies but those were not the game's fault.

Care to elaborate? Beyond using the wheel, which is implemented very differently from Mass Effect?

If we're mostly talking about a particular UI element, sure.  Otherwise, yeah....no.

I have never played any of the Mass Effects. Are they good? Not a big fan of science fiction though. I like swords and stuff. So does dragon age 2 have laser beams and stuff in it?

All it's missing is scars appearing more and more when you're ruthless.

If you read the article, you'll see that it goes on to say that DA2 is NOT Dragon Effect.
It's actually quite positive.

Well, that and pretty much the entire game design, but whatever.

I hope people are not still upset about combat, its so much more fun. After like 6 runs in Origins I have to say I was rather tired of shuffling like a moron. Also the archer was pretty well unplayable in that game, now its easily one of the most fun classes.

I loved ME2 so if there is a resemblance than I am all for it.

Guys! Guys! Fast, action based combat with a set, voiced protagonist?

WITCHER EFFECT, ANYONE?

See? You see how easy this is to do?

People will be upset for infinite reasons. If the tables were turned and they kept combat the same there would be many more people complaining about the stale combat.

I wish to inform that I will be unable to RSVP positively to your Invitation. I have conflicting plans that day, as I will be busy feeding these trolls.

Tenso Carver was alright, but I hate Carver, and I love the cat eyes on your current pic. I'm not sure if it's just a trick of image compression, or if you actually used some cat-eye thing, but it looks hella cool.

So sick of morons who think that just because the combat changed (for the better), the character being voiced (which is good) and slight dialogue changes constitute it being exactly like Mass Effect.

This is how I see it:
Combat - No longer a yawn fest in which it feels like dice are being rolled in the background to determine your damage. Combat was so abysmally slow in Dragon Age, and unless you had a spell mage, or the dual weapon ability that speeds up your attack speed, its just a snooze. DA2's combat is much more action packed and fast paced, and as a result it is actually exciting.
Voiced character - No longer will you have a one way conversation between people. No longer are you referred to as "Grey Warden" or "Warrior" or whatnot. No longer will your character have a blank ass face, no matter the situation. Sure it sucks that you can't play as dwarves or elves anymore, but still, the only real difference in the game was the shorter stature or pointed ears...nothing else really distinguished who you were.
Dialogue changes - This is the only one that I personally care about. You can't see the entire sentence your character would say (magically with silence in DA1 might I add). Instead you have a wheel similar to Mass Effect. At least there are icons that hint what your choice will invoke.

The only things it seems to me that people are ****ing about in calling it "Dragon Effect" or the like is the human only character and the similar dialogue wheel. People who base it off of those two things are stupid, because those two things say absolutely nothing about the gameplay overall. Grow a pair and come up with some real reasons why they are the "same" in your eyes.

Has nobody read the thread properly??
The OP is making a positive point :)

Anywho (in a general response to what people are writing), I think the action animations are a vast improvement (smoother, more relevant, and nicer to look at), if I'm honest I was hesistant about the dialogue wheel but the demo swayed me, I don't think it's simplifying or "mass effecting" anything it's an obvious step, think about it like this (a random example, but stick with me) why walk from Paris to London when you can drive a car, or take a train? (unless its for charity or something mind you it be darn hard to walk on water unless you were jesus . . . but I digress) why make something harder when you can do something that's far more logical. Just because there is a dialogue wheel doesn't mean it's turning into another game! It's merely utilising something thats effective like penicillin or manure, just because I put horse poo on my roses doesn't mean it's going to magically transform into more poo.

I would like to add that this is just MY personal opinion, I know people will think differently and I completely respect it :) no insults intended.
