But yes, lets hope they did change the running. The female characters all run a little.. well odd to say the least.

Whatthe... is that really how she sounds in-game? Sounds like someone's trying to gag her.

Isn't it glorious?

Why must animations be different for different sexes?

I think it all depends on your style of life. Imo a martial person will not swing his butt. Like soccer girls in my college for example walk different than girls not involved in sports, I don't see a lot of difference in our walks/stances.

Playing sports, or lack thereof, has nothing to do with it. How much you swing your butt directly relates to how far apart your feet are when you walk/run. If you tend to put one foot almost directly in front of the other, your bum will shake a lot. If you walk with feet shoulder width apart, you're going to look like you secretly have a penis dangling between your legs, but no bum shakage.

Well I do walk/run very straight, my feet almost don't have a right/left angle, but my butt doesn't swing.

It's definitely exaggerated. It actually bothered me so much I restarted the demo with a new male Hawke. DA:O's girls looked cute while running

Different strokes for different folks, and all that, I guess. :?

Personally I cringed every time I bothered to pay attention to the female animation.

I thought the female running animation, with no weapon drawn, looked a bit odd. But testing it out, checking how the feet moved in relation to the ground and seeing it from other angles then just from behind, I thinks it looks great. But there's always room for improvement, and the swaying of the hips feels a bit too pounced. I also think that this feeling might be a bit enforced by the fact that I'm rather used to stiff running in Origins.

It is a bit odd, but I'm not really bothered by it. The only unfortunate thing is you'll be running a lot so...you'll see it a lot. I just tend to ignore it.

I actually like the run, it's kind of a laid back jog when she's not in combat.

Ok I'm just saying that I have really noticed that people involved in different activity walk/run differently. The way lady hawke runs right now is as if she's a highschool doll.

NEWS FLASH:People run different

So STFU and stop calling certain running styles an Insult just because thats not how you do it. Some May find it Offensive

I actually run the way the female protagonist does. I walk the way she does, too. My mom used to tease me in high school about how I'd prissily run up the court to clothesline the girl who'd elbowed me in the face on the other end of the floor.

I'd hardly say I'm offended by the "omg nobody rly walks that way guyz" comments, though. Highly amused is more like it.

I doubt you bob your head from side to side though :P That was what bothered me most about the running animations. I have no problem with swinging hips or whatever else has been brought up so far but am I the only one who noticed Femhawke bobs her head left and right ALL the time while running? Like it helps with equilibrium or something? :D Go check the demo again. I swear I'm not imagining it. Even the hair is bobbing left and right, left and right. :D

Edit: As for the standing animation. I think it's kinda cute. I don't pose like that irl ( actually I'd make my husband laugh if I would ) but I imagine it works for some girls... for the whole "hey sexy" or "come here handsome" moments.

I was really disappointed when I saw how Ladyhawke flounces about like a tart. Before the demo was released, I'd heard that Isabela was going to get a "saunter" because she's a sexy woman, and I was okay with that because, hey, it's Isabela we're talking about here. But that doesn't mean that the main character needs to look like that! Why can't Ladyhawke walk like Aveline, a woman who wants to be taken seriously?

I guess it comes down to fetish material. Ladyhawke has to be sexy, and walk sexy, or no dude will want to stare at her butt, and we can't have that.

I'm not very fond of fem Hawke's running animation too... but trust me, the running animation of female characters in Knights of the Old Republic is even WORSE.

Sigh I *almost* miss fem Shepard's man walk.

@D. Kain: I see. I was more talking about whether, say, you could naturally walk on a sidewalk curb with no problem (IE, -- -- -- -- for footprints as opposed to _ -- _ -- _ ).

I don't understand the aversion to making something sexy. Objectifying, yes. Sexifying, no. What's wrong with sexy?

Maybe male Hawke should walk backwards and shake his .... for female players to have something to look at?

Maybe next time, manHawke will have a sexy, butt-shaking walk, too. At least then we'll see some freaking equality. *sigh*

That's nothing compared to ME2. Both Shepards have REALLY, REALLY bad head bob in that game. The Shepards violently jerk their head around while running like their don't have a spine. Bioware has like... a head bob fetish.

My Marian doesn't walk that sexy. It might have been sexy but the head bob ruins any attempt at a sexy flounce. :P How come everyone noticed her ass moving when her head bobs all over the place? I mean, ok.. I'm a woman so I'm less likely to stare at my character's behind than her head... but the head bobbing is so much more obvious... left and right, left and right.. like a metronome. Seriously. :D

Her normal walk is nice though. And, as I mentioned in my previous post, I think the idle pose is cute. It might be termed sexy...(maybe) if Marian had Bethany or Isabela's chest... but it's just cute otherwise.

I didn't really pay much attention to the run period until all these threads about how unrealistic it is started popping up.
