I have recently misplaced my Dragon Age: Origins PC game disk, however, I have the box and booklet that came with it. I have heard that I am able to somehow redeem a digital version using a game code located somewhere within the contents I have. What code am I looking for, and is this even possible?

Also, I do not have the game installed. I had uninstalled the game (not my saved games, of course) as I thought that I would not be playing Dragon Age until the second one came out. Clearly mistaken, I am now looking to start playing it again before the release of the sequel. However, the game is registered on my account, aswell as all of my DLC.

So, in short, how might I download a digital version of the game with the components I have now?

*Sorry if this topic has been brought up many times before, which I'm sure it has. I would just like a specific response in accordance to the circumstances I am in.*

Many thanks ahead of time!Posted Image

I've never done it. Never needed to do so. But I am sure that it is covered not only in hundreds of archived message threads, but also in at least two of the pinned threads on top of the forums.

Just download the EA download manager... http://www.ea.com/1/download-manager and install it.  Make sure it's version 7.3.1.16 or greater... past versions were buggy as all heck.  Even so, I'd recommend running it as an Admin if you're using Vista or Win 7.

Once installed, you'll enter in your EA username and passoword (same you used for the game) and then you'll be able to redeem codes... that's the CD key on your booklet.  It will start downloading... which of course is a full DVD's worth... so it might take a while.

BTW... in the setup, it gives you an option to save the installation files... so you can back those up someplace and next time you have to install, you shouldn't have to download.

Cheers,

RI

Thanks for the posts all. That's exactly what I did RI, it worked great. I also backed up the files on an external hard drive incase of uninstallation again on my computer.Once again, thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!

You're welcome.  I have to admit, I've always been a little suspcious of digital downloads for games, but I find EA's system (now that they've fixed the EA Download Manager this month) works surprisingly well, for Dragon Age, at least.

I have an issue with DAO where i registered it with Bioware but not with EA so when I download the EA manager (renamed Origin) it only shows DA2. So where can I get the cd key for origins after the game has been uninstalled and the manual lost (I still have the game cd's and the free DLC redemption codes that came with the pack - but just can't find the game manual with the cd key). I don't seem to be able to find the cd key on my bioware account? Also is there a way for EA/Origin to pick up the information from the Bioware registration process so we don't have to register games at 2 different sites?

http://social.biowar...8/index/7280573 "read first" for a reason!http://social.biowar...8/index/6265850 lots of solutions for a wide range of problems.
http://social.biowar.../58/index/81613 various DLC issues.
http://social.biowar...8/index/5151520 more DLC issues, especially for Ultimate Edition users.
http://social.biowar.../58/index/87251 if all else fails, after you post/edit your own thread, this reminds you where official EA support is available.

Necroing old threads is bad form.  Personally, I think unregistered games are also.

It should tell you that a CD-key is an invalid promo code.  Because a CD-key is a CD-key (which on this site you register here http://social.biowar...es_register.php) and a redeemable promo code for DLC (which is entered here http://social.biowar...redeem_code.php and confirmed registered here http://social.biowar...ntitlements.php)  is a code for....  You get the picture.

With most versions of DA, the CD-key is on one bit of paperwork (usually the manual) and the promo code on another bit of paperwork.  Digital download formats usually follow up a purchase with more or more emails that contain the code(s) you are entitled to.

Your install error sounds like a corruption, but I never use digital only download games so I can be sure.  I have heard that on Steam there is a cache repair tool (or something like that) that often help.  Maybe something like that can help you.

So it's bad form to post a new thread when the topic's been covered, but also bad form to use an old thread?

Old threads, from six months ago and older will mean that the people writing in them are long gone, usually. Brand new message threads that haven't been wrapped up, you can use as a link or URL in your own message to eliminate some part of your problem description, if you like, but when it's an active subject from the original author's point of view, you certainly may join the conversation, but should not ask for your own answers in his thread.

When the question has been asked and answered a thousand times, of course, then it's just wasting space to ask that one all over again, and generally not a subject worth reopening at all.

In between the two extremes, when a subject closely matches your own problem, isn't covered (that you can tell) in either FAQs or multiple Archives, and the OP (Original Poster) apparently is either satisfied or solved his problem without a final comment saying so, those are yours to reanimate all you want.

For the former, yes.  Reason: why clutter up the forum if your question is answered elsewhere.  If it is not answered, after checking the FAQs properly it's perfectly good to start a new thread.

For the latter, yes.  Not all agree, but I think it can muddle things.  Many people ignore old threads so asking questions on the back of one is less likely to help you anyway.
