Why are soldiers so popular? What is the draw?

Now maybe over time people tried everything, but I'd really like to know why the common, uninspired soldier is the prime candidate of what gets played in a game like mass effect?
There are obvious possibilities. It's the "shooter" class, and as we all know, the one thing you can count on all the little kiddies being familiar with and enjoying is taking a gun and firing.
But why is that more enticing and more compelling than say... using your mind to pick up an enemy and flinging him into the air like a rag doll like an adept can?
The adepts power is not in his gun, he IS the Power. A god amond insects, and yet people want to play the insects with the pistols. I don't get it. I am probably wierd, but there it is.
So dress me down people, explain to my follish self why the mortal with a gun as more appeal than the mortal with the powers of a demi god.

-First on the class list
-Has access to all weapons except SMGs
-Very friendly to first-timers
Tbh I didn't use an Adept until the fourth playthrough. I'm more of a shooter guy but appreciate spellcasters regardless.

Lack of imagination perhaps?
Or "Harry Potter is gay, guns are cool" mentality.
Or maybe they just have a very small penis and need some form of extension.

BTW, I'm more of the Batman/Punisher type of person rather than Superman or the X-Men just because I don't relate to demi-Gods.

I liked the solider, not having the magic "kill" button that biotics give you does add a different kind of challenge - not the best kind of challenge for me since I can't shoot straight but a challenge none-the-less.

Uh, because combat is easy to get into without requiring excessive micromanagement and to avoid stylized kills? The one reason why I avoid Adepts is because the cooldowns still take an eternity to execute, not to mention in ME2, the defenses made half of the skills useless, forcing me to rely on my teammates for Debuffs. With the Soldier, I can just fire special ammo to whittle down the Armor and shields while killing them as efficiently as possible.
All you need to do is couple a gun that is effective at shredding shields with your native abilities. It's not difficult. Also the adepts cooldowns are not exactly long... it''s like the entire attention span of the kids these days is so gnat-like that the tiniest delay produces outrage and frustration.
I see what you have to deal with bioware, just make sure to keep adding the more interesting and frankly, powerful and satisfying classes for those who want to do more than run and gun. And let the barbarians swing their metal sticks and shoot their bb guns.

Uh, read all of the other peoples' posts about Adepts not worth the hassle with playing the game on harder difficulties. Any regular player would say "Adept is worth playing as only on Normal." BTW, nice stereotyping here, jack-ass. I'm not one of those "ADD-riddled kids" you just labeled here. I'm 23 years old, and played KOTOR 1 at the age of 16.
If you're wondering why people like playing Soldiers? What's the appeal behind Batman, Indiana Jones, and Han Solo? They're ****ing human.

The first time I played ME1, I didnt even know there WAS another choice besides Soldier. The screen should make it more clear, imo.
This is very important too. A casual player would have to search to be aware that Female options are available as well as classes that aren't soldier.

Hm I am 39 years of age does that make me a little kiddie ? I appreciate you want to understand why people choose the soldier class but there really wasn't any need to suggest those that prefer the soldier class are all "little kiddies".
I prefer the soldier class for several reasons (listed in order of importance) :-
- I do not like "biotics" they come across as airy fairy magical wizard stuff and I hate that kind of thing.
- Shepard leads a military life and to me that suggests "soldier"
- I enjoy taking a gun and firing it

- I can identify with a battle hardened soldier more than I can with something like an Adept or a Vanguard.

After I created a new character I made him a soldier and I found out that he had an assault rifle, and that the assault rifle was such a good weapon that could have saved me time and stress.
So I started ME2 as a soldier.

right because spamming biotics is sooooooooo deepo thinking. No class requires more or less critical thinking to make it work - well ok Vanguard might be a tougher go than most because your charge can put you into a lot of bad spots.

So you can play other classes and get a gimped out smg & handgun, three classes have only that, THREE, ok that is half the classses in the game! that is bull crap & that's why solder is popular, pluss it's a good starter class

Being able to use any weapon is a big draw, too. You have to be either a Soldier, Infiltrator or Vanguard to use anything cooler than a pistol. At least in ME1 you could add certain weapons as bonus abilities and be a sniper rifle-toting Adept or whatever.
Personally I love the Adept.
