Adepts were my favourite in ME1 by far.

But they were neutered in ME2, I didn't feel like a god anymore. That all chanced once I found out about the soldier getting to use the revenant... oh my word. I'm not a god anymore I'm the apocolypse.

in the first game every single power took like 3 minutes to cooldown, and i'm sorry if i want to accomplish something in a reasonable timetable

That's what it feels like when you start the game. But later on your cooldowns will be almost too low. Adepts can pretty much keep spamming powers until everything is flying or in stasis. Adrenaline Rush helps with the cooldowns for the classes who have that. But for "caster" classes, a good amp makes all the difference, and the class skills also lower the cooldowns.

So yeah it's fair to say that cooldowns are long in the beginning. But certainly not after a while.

but that's just the problem for myself and i'd bet most people, they suck waayy too much early on and i dont want to play long enough to see them get good, i want to play the game, not do work

Oh but I agree. They are too weak in the beginning, but late in the game they are too good.

I chose sentinel my first time and then went soldier my second time let me tell you sentinel is easier to play and can take more damage then a soldier their yellow tech armor stays on till it's shot off. I recommend assault rifle with sentinel. I also love Adept singularity is fun and can be a life saver fun having a bunch of enemies floating around in the air.

I prefer shredder ammo even if i don't take it and make Thane take squad shredder ammo it is my preference. I don't care if it says shreds organics it to me seems to work well on synthetics also.

I just finished getting all 59 achievements for this game on the 360, but i only bought this game recently for like $20 have not had it very long the achievements are pretty easy to get.

I already said it's cringe-inducing. So this makes your post a long version for QFT, or?

Or, it makes your previous post pointless?

Thanks for a long QFT!

It's the default class.
It's the easiest class.
It's the most user-friendly class (99% of the time I play a warrior/soldier class my first time through because they're the easiest to build).

With all that in place, you have to remember most gamers don't play the same game multiple times. I'm sure there's many Alpha Protocol or Fallout: New Vegas players out there that play it over and over again...but those were two games that I enjoyed (for different reasons) but simply could not hold my interest for a second playthrough.

Huh, both of those are Obsidian games.....I feel like I need to include a non-one....the Godfather 2 game. Enjoyed it, I liked the RTS aspect with the GTA aspect...but I've never once thought of replaying it.

My favorite classes are the Adept and the Infiltrator. Yet most of my playthroughs are with the Soldier, because of the Revenant. When people play the Soldier and not take the Revenant, I look askance at them. Bioware gave you the BFG. Why would you squander that gift?

If I could take the Revenant with any other class, I would not play the Soldier nearly as often.

Oh and I don't take it because I hate that gun, an assault rifle in my mind should be a Soldiers bread and butter weapon. When you can't reliably hit a target 10 meters away that's an issue for me. Give me the Widow or Claymore any day of the week.

Did you have the accuracy upgrade at the time? I found the Revenant quite managable after that at short and medium range.

I do yes and after posting I felt I was unduly harsh on the old Rev so I'll be doing a playthough with it to learn to love the big red beast.

But how do you explain Shep can run a 100 m in 2 seconds (in ARush)

Well, I've assumed that the class passive bonuses simply represent the physical combat training and conditioning Shep has received as an N7 operator as a soldier.

So lore and gameplay-wise, combining the enhanced optical processors, genetic engineering and other Cerberus upgrades with the rush of endorphins and N7 training, I assume Shep's body can seem to do the improbable with moving across the battlefield at least.

What I understand about the human body, muscle mass stores a lot of potential energy in its tissues. Of which, an individual normally only taps into a fraction of, for normal day to day activities.

With a rush of endorphins and/or adrenaline, the body can under times of extreme stress tap into all of that stored energy at once and then be able to exert seemingly superhuman strength and possibly speed for a brief period of time. But the main concern in doing that is that significant structural damage can be done to the muscles after such an exertion. The cases I've read about, after extreme exertion, the body would have to rest and heal for an extended period of time.

So in ME2, I assume, Shep can tap into that energy efficiently from the modifications done to Shep's body and can recover from any potential damage from extreme exertion with Medigel if there was any damage.

I can explain this better since i have an A level in P.E.

WARNING LONG WINDED AND A LOT OF TECHNICAL NAMES INVOLVED, READ THE BOLD PARAGRPH BELOW FOR THE SIMPLIFIED VERSION.

we all have in our muscles, fast twitch and slow twitch fibres. There is also something called spatial summation if i remember correctly. Ahh hell, i am struggling to remember what i learnt as yesar ago, but the thing is:

There is are muscle cells that contain either slow twitch muscle fibres or fast twitch muscle fibers, not both. The more power you need to exert an action like sprinting the more fast twitch fibre cells will be taken aboard to creste a large amount of force produced by the muscle cells in  the leg, which helkps us to propel ourselves over distances with bigger/longer strides.

However, these fibres need energy in the form of Phospho creatine and we have a very limited supply or it, roughly ten seconds. Scientists have tried for years to increase our storage or it replensh it quicker with certain drinks. None of this has been proven to work and many results prove that it fails.

The reason why the scientists have so much trouble with incresasing our phospho creatine levels so that we can run faster for longer without the aid of oxygen, which will result in longer times for the energy to reach our fast twitch fibres to make them contract and us move faster, is that the 'cup' that holds our phospho creatine is fixed ij size and far too small for any of our instructments to pinpoint it and inject the phospho in.

Another thing is that our fast twitch fibres generate lactic acid and hydrogen at an astonishing rate and if we don't breath it out or sweat it out, we could literally explode or stop and have an uncontrollable fit and die with lactic acid oozing from evereywhere.

So basically the problems for running that fast are:
lack of energy to help muscles pump out such speed
lack of super fast and workable wastie disposal systenm while running
plus the time need for the muscules to contract and retract to give us move would take far too long for this to happen, if it did you would see the shape of your legs. (an example is like trying to open and close your fist 10 times per second, as closing the hand represents retraction and opening represents contraction of muscles as they generate the force to move your legs)

I hope i got most of this right, the principle is right, but i may have muddled a few terms and words ;)

man that was long winded, but this is just a summary

basically, Cerberus must have reconstructed his leg completely as well as hisd ability to breath and how he breathes to accomplish 100m in 2 seconds on the ground, phyiscally it's just not possible for a land mammal.

I have a Biology degree and I can confirm that you are indeed correct kudos for paying attention in class.

Your muscles can produce far more power than they are ordinarily capable of but this is restricted to prevent damage to the muscle tissue. In times of extreme stress or physical danger, a rush of adreneline can counter this restriction and cause the muscles to go far beyond their normal capacity, giving people seemingly impossible strength.

Climber throwing 300kg+ rocks they were trapped under, women lifting up cars to free their trapped child it's a well documented phenomenon. Now, with cybernetic enhancements you could theoretically artifically enhance muscle power, increase the twitch speed, remove oxygen dependance and waste build up. Read the description of the Heavy Muscle Weave upgrade, it says it increases power and prevents tissue damage and I we know cybernetics were used to rebuild Shep.

TL:DR, Miranda did it.

LOL, looks like this thread is getting interesting! A quick note though, the 300+ Kg dude and the car lifting mum could only do those things through sheer willpower - strength is nothing, will is everything!

The explanation above is pure speculative and nobody can do stuff like that on command. Only life threatening situation can trigger such events and no human (not even when being chased by a berserk Krogan) can run 100 m in 2 seconds. :)

Soldier Shepard must have been genetically modified and uses cybernetics to do the things (s)he can do and Soldiers are therefore just as unrealistic and sci-fi as biotic or tech specialists (which was my original point).

I don't get why people say Shepard is normal as a Soldier, even the badass normal tvtropes describes the soldiers as badass abnormal due to all their genemods and implants. Never mind Shepard back from the dead with awesomer implants in ME2. The only real BAN is Tali when you read the definition.

I like the Soldier class, but find the areas littered with Husks and such to be more suited to someone with biotics, the Reaper IFF mission being a prime example of how shockwave/wide singularity puts soldiers to shame. It has it's ups and downs like every other class. It can handle any enemy especially with warp/disruptor/inferno ammo, but that means the cost is in ammo. The infiltrator, vanguard, etc has alternate means of dealing with a situation should they get too low on ammo. No, Concussive Shot doesn't count, I've tried it.

I like the Soldier for its wide arsenal of weapons (which allows me to really switch up my attack style depending on circumstances), but I dislike how it's pretty much a one-trick pony with Adrenaline Rush. Seriously, aside from ammo powers, I never use anything else on my bar. I'd love to see the Immunity power from ME1 make a comeback in the next DLC. (Maybe if Ashley was the Virmire survivor, she has Immunity as her bonus power?)

I usually don't play soldiers because they bore me. I've played a lot of RPGs, and I'm always drawn to the monk/mage classes. Probably cause I've been in martial arts forever and love the ki (chi) concept. Most games don't have chi stuff, so mages make a good substitute. That's why I like the biotics, it seems to me like a character is using their ki to do stuff, even if all the effects except barrier are a little absurd.

So classes with powers are more fun for me to play, but I can see why a lot of people like the Soldier. It's a good class, I just get bored playing it.

Soldier and Infiltrator are my favorite classes in Mass Effect 1 and 2...And i must confess, when i finally went from soldier to adept.Being in adept felt very effeminate for some reason... and i don't think it was just because all you can use are the pistol ( in ME1) and sub machine gun ( in ME2) .Maybe that is what it was, anyway, i felt very emasculated from how powerful and deadly my soldier combat specialist comes across as.Its like how Law Enforcement Officers sometimes say that," The sound a shotgun makes when you load it, is very intimidating... and authoritive.

Vanguard class, is an adrenaline rush! For a while, but at other times it seems like more trouble than its worth.I was in awe of the Marines in James Cameron's Aliens and it feels kind of cool to be a Starship Trooper ^_^

I played through as a soldier first, mostly because I wanted to see the default game as the way Bioware intended it to be seen. I get bored with straight up shooter though so switched to Vanguard which in ME1 was... my god. Vanguard in ME2 I was like, wtf, never used charge because I didn't really check it out, and not until my 2nd playthrough of Vanguard in ME2 (To see the difference of when the council lived) did I finally experiment enough to just go crazy. Died a lot, but when I didn't die... sooo worth it :)

Now, Infiltrator and Adept are my two favorites. Adept is tricky on Insanity, have to be a lot more careful and not be afraid of the guns (Husks with armor? Grah worst thing ever!) and be more tactical, which is a good thing.

I haven't tried Sentinel yet, I should, Engineer though I just kept wanting my sniper rifle as it was to close to Infiltrator to me. Otherwise... they're all enjoyable and I think it's flat out stupid to have internet arguements over one being better or more op than the other. It's like the arguements over which LI is better... pointless because it's all opinion.

Now maybe over time people tried everything, but I'd really like to know why the common, uninspired soldier is the prime candidate of what gets played in a game like mass effect?

Haven't you heard? It's all about the lvl4 Concussive Shot!

This ... the soldier isn't just a dude with a lots of guns. With his genetic modifications, neural and ocular implants, cybernetic enhancements the soldier is just as "over-the-top" as the adept (the adept also relies on implants btw) or the engineer.

Who needs the power to move objects with your mind if you have high-tech weaponry and cybernetics? ;-)

Soldier is my favorite tbqh, even though it's the hardest to play on Insanity. I don't why you guys are so pissed that most people play it. Throwing insults at them and such. It's a preference. I mean seriously.

And who needs fancy powers? We got the Revenant. DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA!!!

Soldiers can use any weapon and can choose which is right for the situation, and the team mates have powers you can use. I mix combat, tech and biotic, and since most team mates in ME1 (except ashley) are already techs or biotics I pick solider. Besides that I prefer shooting rather than powers. But I have done a playthrough with each of them. Really infiltrator should have been my favourite since I almost always favour sniper rifles and pistols but I like having the options available.

Soldier just does insane damage. Really it does, Soldier is the only class that needs no gimmicks to destroy the whole game. Soldier is the true one man army, he doesn't even NEED a bonus power. Soldier runs this show. A level 8 soldier has more HP than a level 30 Vanguard. Soldier laughs at your attempts to match his DPS prowess as he goes matrix through the game with an iron fist. Even the ONE knows not to mess with a Adrenaline rushing Soldier. Yes, the soldier's win button is on a 3 second cooldown. Thats why most people use the soldier, not me.
