(I'm assuming a 4-character party here...correct me if I'm wrong?)

So. Based on the (limited) info we have now, and at least a brief intro to a lot of the characters, who do you think will be your "go-to" group?

My personal first playthrough will be on a mage (the whole Apostate thing is obviously going to be important, I want to experience it first-hand). I thought it could be great fun to run around with:

1) Apostate!FemHawke
2) Abomination!Anders
3) LyriumAltered!Fenris
4) <----this is where I run into head-scratching.

You could go with Merrill for an all magic, all the time group (which could be so much fun, imo). Imagine the horror of the general populace when you all have to break bad on something all at once.

...but I really like Aveline the little we've seen of her.
...and of course there's Rival!Carver, which I think will be a blast, too.

Sooo...what about you guys? :)

I know I wont be using Aveline so my main party will probably be:

-Evil Mage Lady Hawke
-Anders
-Merill
-Sebastian/Carver/Isabela

Varric is to OP with his Bianca lol, plus that way he can envision all those huge boobies without seeing em.

Fenris is too much for me to handle since my Lady Hawke is going to get with Anders so yea

Crap. I SOMEhow forgot about Varric. He's awesome too D:

/lobbies for an extra character slot

And how can you classify Fenris as a girl with DAT VOICE. <3 (He is awfully...pretty otherwise though.)

For me it depends on who we get and when in the game we get them.

My first playthrough is going to be as a Male Mage so i will probably have Isabella at some point to get that "romance" out of the way first. Save Merril for a warrior :)
Other then that maybe Anders if he is still good at healing, Aveline seems to be the best tank with her special tree so it will most likely look like this on the first run

Me: Male Mage
Isabella
Anders
Aveline

Will be mixing it up as too on other playthroughs just to see how all companions/LI play out.

It depends on who I end up liking; I haven't really seen enough of any of them to decide who my favorites are. However, from what I can guess so far, for having a balanced party, would be:

1. Mage Hawke
2. Aveline as tank (possibly Fenris or Carver if I can get away with either tanking)
3. Either Varric or Isabella, depending on who can open locks. If they both can... Varric, I guess, since from what I can tell he's quite snarky, and I love snarky companions.
4. Any DPS character that amuses me sufficiently.

Once I'm more comfortable with the game and know how to not die, I'll start messing with my party and trying different people.

I'm picking Mage Hawke to start off... based on what I know so far...
Carver - hopefully I can figure out a way to bond with him without compromising my goals too much
Fenris - hopefully he's as cool as he looks... plus Lyrium based powers seem awesome
Isabela - she seems less likely to be a goody-two-shoes or despise mages so... sounds good

I'm anticipating problems getting along with Aveline because my mage will really hate Templars so... I doubt we'll be doing much bonding.
Varric and Sebastian both seem cool enough, but we'll see. Anders is a maybe...

i plan on sword and boarding the first time so, for combat purposes, Anders (healing), Fenris (for DPS), and then i'll just take whichever of three rogues (Isabella, Varric, Sebastian) i turn out to like more, or whoever agrees more with my morality.

I dunno. It's a tough call, considering we don't really know a lot about any of the characters yet.

But right now I think my first playthrough is going to be:

- Mage femHawke
- Carver
- Anders
- Sebastian

Not sure yet about a second playthrough...but I may roll a TH warrior femHawke and take Varric, Fenris, and Isabela.

Everyone looks interesting, though, so I'll probably be playing through a bunch of times and taking everyone along.

For my first run through, I will use the following setup:

FemHawke -Mage
Aveline -Tank
Varric or Sebastion - Rogue
Merrill or Anders(depending on how much of a freak he has become) - Healer

Anders was 2nd to Nathaniel as my favs in Awakenings. But after reading his story, not sure I want him in my party at all.

From what I have seen, and from the character descriptions/back stories, it will probably be sword and shield diplomatic Hawke, sword and shield Aveline, Bethany, and Varic for the first play through.

Aggressive mage play through will definitely have Isabella, but don't know enough about the other characters to know how the characters will fit in.

Joker dual wield rogue, not a clue but will have to have a mix of those I haven't played that much with. Same with an archer play through.

I thought about doing something similar. But I'd like the option to do some romances on FemHawke my first playthrough at least, and Isabella doesn't particularly interest me. Soooo.... :)

EDIT: Am I the only one looking forward to encouraging/maintaining rivalries (Carver, in particular)?

Rogue Lady Hawke
Bethany
Merrill
Aveline

I didn't think I would actually use Bethany, but after playing the demo I sort of fell in love with her. I may switch Merill with Anders occasionally, and maybe Aveline with Fenris too.

That's what I usually play on these days. If I want to have to carefully plan my group, I log into DCUO or something. These games are far more fun to me to build on personality rather than the "best" group makeup from a combat mechanics PoV.

I prefer the option to not have to include a tank, or a mage, or a rogue, etc. (I also prefer not to have to pause that often.)

I've played DA:O, I know the drill ;) But thanks for the warning.

Heavy-Hitter 2H Warrior Hawke
Spirit Healer Anders
Defensible Tanker Aveline
Ass-kicking Apostate Bethany

I'll have to see how things work out in the actual game. :)
