It is suggested that you try applying this patch before attempting the other DLC authorization solutions linked below. Patch 1.05 has been extensively tested and seems to work well for unmodified games. As always, if you're using 3rd party mods, your mileage my vary....

A note for some of the newer folks to this forum... the people you see posting here are, without exception, gamers like you and NOT Bioware/EA employees. So you have some options:
1) read this and other posts, and try to track down your particular problem. (Directions on searching the forums is at the bottom of this entry).
2) post a NEW topic describing your issue, including your technical information, and some of your fellow gamers will probably help, or at least point you into the right direction.
3) Contact Electronic Arts directly by going to support.ea.com, clicking on "Contact Us", loggin in and filing a report with them.
If you're having problems, please do NOT reply to this topic. Rather, please post a new topic in the forum that includes your system hardware and OS information. Thanks!
This listing will be updated from time-to-time as new and interesting solutions are presented. Updates will be marked as **NEW--
Game Installation/First Run Problems
This section covers problems encountered when either installing or launching DAO for the first time. Generally, installations appear to fail for two reasons – either there unsupported hardware or OS at play, or there is something missing from the OS (like a driver file). Preparing your OS by updating Windows, DirectX, display and audio drivers might help mitigate this.
**NEW-- (04/26/11) - Some folks have tried to install patch 1.04 on top of Ultimate Edition, which already comes patched. This action may cause significant problems.

DLC Installation/Authorization Issues
This section covers issues with installing and authorizing DLC. The causes of this are many and sometimes complex. In general, DLC may become “unauthorized” if you opt to auto-login for each game session. It’s a common misconception that you must log in every time you play the game to reauthorize the DLC—this is not the case—you do not have to log in every time you play. Logging in merely allows you to upload achievements to the social network site. So if you are constantly struggling to keep your DLC authorized, get all of it authorized once, and stay logged out.

Manually installing DLC—You can manually install DLC if it is stuck downloading or you suspect it is corrupted (note this does NOT apply to the Ultimate Edition, which already includes all the DLC files). Here’s a complete guide to DAO’s DLC, with links, at the Dragon AgeWiki:

Awakening-related Issues (stand-alone expansion pack)

Awakening -- Problems with the Ultimate Edition
Here’s the deal... sadly, Awakening seems to be the number one issue with folks using the Ultimate Edition. Specifically, under many circumstances, Awakening seems to disappear. This is usually because of a problem in installation (you’ve installed but already had another copy of Origins on the machine) or due to some issue with a file or the registry on your machine. Note: in many cases, uninstalling and reinstalling UE is the best option.

Mod-related Issues
This section is reserved for issues which have been (reasonably) linked to having third-party mods in your game. The bottom line-- if you’ve “modified” your game, and if you’re having problems, look at the mods as your prime suspect.
