Does the game force you to bring Bethany/Carver into the deep roads?

Better question, when does that happen and how can their deaths be avoided?

No, you can leave them at the homebase and then they don't die, however Bethany will be taken to the circle and Carver joins the templars.

Wait, if you leave them home then Bethany has to join the Circle?

No you aren't forced to bring them. From all the bits of info I've gathered I think you can leave them "to die" in the deep roads and Grey Wardens will find them and recruit them. If you don't bring them along in that quest the Mage Circle grabs Bethany at home and Carver joins the templars willingly.

Trust me he deserves it. He seems like that kid that's pissed because not only is he not a Mage like daddy and brother and sister. BUT because him living with Mages has caused him inconveniences as a child growing up, so he seems to have a lot of resentment for Mages.

So having a life where you are denied a basic childhood because your family must keep running all for the sake of your siblings and on top of that feeling like the "stupid normal one" means you deserve to be poisoned and die? :?

I'm an only child and even I cut Carver MASSIVE amounts of slack despite having no idea what being overshadowed like that feels

There comes a time in your life however when you grow up Carver doesn't
seems to. And if he stays behind he joins the Templar's. At first I
thought well maybe its because the needed money, however it just feels
like Carver whats the be a mage hunter, purely out of spite/ignorance
some of the stuff he says early on imply a deep bitterness against
mages. Maybe its just me not liking the how hes' written.

During the Deep Roads expedition at the end of Act 1
If you don't take them Carver desides to join the Templars and Bethany is captured and put into the circle

If you do take them, they either die from the taint or you can find Grey Wardens (apperently led by Nathanial Howe if you recruited him in Awakening) and your sibling gets taken to attempt the Joining

So its a lose lose situation.:crying:

Is there any way for them to actually stay alive and be in your party?

I believe in the deep roads and looking at the spoilers we got from the demo the siblings can be turned into grey wardens.

A better question would be if we still have access to them for the party if their deaths are avoided.

From what I understand, if your sibling stays at home he/she joins the Templars/Circle. If you bring him/her to the deep roads, he/she gets poisoned by the taint and become a Grey Warden

I'd rather have my siblings join the templars/circle than die, that's for sure, especially if given an option to break them out later. And I don't think joining the wardens is much better than death. I mean, they still have to leave their family, titles, and chance for a normal future to die in 30 years... not what I'd wish on my siblings even if they do drive me nuts.

I think you lose them no matter what and they aren't in your party any longer. What I want to see is whether you'd have to fight them at the end depending on what side you're on.

This must be why he sells his sister/brother out at the first opportunity he gets which he, oh wait, doesn't! Posted Image

I am NOT taking Carver nor Bethany to the Deep Roads

there is a RUMORPosted Image that you can turn them into a warden and they dont die OR join the circle/templar order

i think they would both perfer death over joining the circle or templars though Posted Image

That would fit the "temporary companion" label

I'd rather have my siblings be turned into Grey Wardens. Of course, they're going to both experience being a circle mage/templar/grey warden in my multiple playthroughs.

Like I said he probably has a massive inferiority complex, it looks to me he joined the Templars because he (due to being raised alongside apostates) thought he would make a good one and actually excel at something for once instead of feeling like the one "left behind" in talent or skill.

And as for "growing up" it seems like the twins are around 18 at the start of the game and thus roughtly 19 when the expedition happens. Compile that with a sucky childhood and the trauma of having your home being destroyed and your twin sister dieing.. That and the one stream that showed all this was of a VERY VERY dickish Hawke

There still his family, if nothing more than to spare his mother.  But if
you have watched anything he has said there is a clear resentment of
mages. And how by an hour into the game the Templar's in Kurkwall don't
know your a mage is beyond me.

Lets be honest this is mid-evil when the life span was 40-50 if
you were lucky. 18 and 19 year olds wouldn't be like they are today.
