Anyone else now wonder if there's going to be an Aeris moment in DA2? That is, unavoidable specific companion death? Surely they couldn't get away with something so crudely manipulative as that in 2011... could they?

Anders is the healer.  His odds of living are slim according to that logic.

I hope there isn't something like that.

I though they said something about the side quest, that can have influence in the world if you don't do them, or about the outcome you choose. Personally, I'm not going to the final act quest until I completed every missions.

Same. If the consequences of not doing side missions are the death of my mother and god only knows what else I'm definitely doing them.

Also cheers Ericander77 :)

I hope not too, but I'm finding the spoilers incredibly depressing, story-wise.

And a missed opportunity with regards to your family. Was it really necessary to kill them all off? It would have been fun to keep the relationships going, having your mom nag you about getting married, etc. Hero-with-dead-family is such a JRPG cliche.

All we need now is a mentor-figure played by Liam Neeson.

Anyone else getting 'crapsack world' feel from the spoilers so far? I mean, Origins had its grim moments, but this feels like wallowing in despair.

First sibling redshirted, second one killed or conscripted... Mom gets murdered by a serial killer? They REALLY didn't want to do the 'hero with a family' thing, did they?

What's next, your mabari gets served up as main course at a Qunari restaurant?

Your love interest, regardless of gender, will be stuffed in a refrigerator. Or an ice house in this case.

Aren't you a bit quick to slap the 'let's blame this on JRPG' label?  Dead family is a cliche that's done everywhere, not just JRPG.

Heck, even Human Noble Warden starts off with that cliche at the beginng of the story.

I always do sidemissions first. Didn´t know you could kill Wrex until I read about it.

I don't know if it was mentioned but in one of the BIKs we see Orsino turn into a Flesh-golem.

I'm not sure Leandra will always die (at least I hope so). We can't judge all the outcome of a game in one playthrough.
About the sibling, I hope we can speak with them if they remains in Kirkwall as a Templar/Circle Mage.
Anyway, aside the family parts I love the story so far. Though I hope I have some more control of the outcomes of certain quests.

Once again, this reminds me of the old phrase "You can never please everyone."  Considering that there were always complaints that Origins was never 'dark' enough.

Now we have some incredibly dark stuff going on and people are saying that it's too dark.  If all this stuff is really going to happen and not just the person who said this stuff trolling, then I'm going to feel *really* sorry for my Hawke.  Also, if there was a way to have Carver alive *and* be a warrior/rogue, I'd so do that so I could have a Rogue Hawke, Carver, Merrill, and Anders party...ah well.  I saw people in the livestream a few days back (just want to say this, NOT going to give a link or anything) that gave Carver a lot of crap whenever he opened his mouth, but I can really see where he's coming from in a lot of his dialogue, he even had a point most of the time.

I'm also loving how it seems *everyone* can possibly die at one point or another, with the only person we *know* is going to survive being Varric(who has to survive in order to narrate the story).  It may make the inevitable Dragon Age 3 cameos of DA2 characters harder to do, but it'll be completely, utterly worth it to have a truly reactive game that really *is* reactive, as the developers have said, within it's own game as opposed to somewhere down the line in a sequal.

Overall, the spoilers are actually exciting me *more* for the release...call me weird.  You could lay out the entire plot of a story-driven game to me and I'd still buy it.

Fair comment - 'RPG cliche' then.  Though in Origins, at least Fergus survives. Lame though it is.

I guess that rules out Orsino as a secret companion.

I agree with you. I love the story so far. My only complaint is on the family part, especially Leandra. I don't see any reason why we can't have the possibility to save her.

We don't know if we can't prevent Leandra's death though.

Doesn't that depend on how 'reactive' it is?

We obviously won't know until we see the whole game, but I'm seeing a lot of linear stuff here.  'All these people die no matter what you do!'

I guess we'll have to see for ourselves next week.  This is just my impression based on what we've seen.

Okay i took screens of the most important ones. Keep in mind that i didn't listen to the audio, didn't want to spoil myself too much. I might look at more of these.

1) Cutscene entitled chantry explosion
Shows the Grand Cleric Elrina running away with other people while the chantry gets destroyed by a red light.

2)Cutscene entitled Orsino defiance
Shows Orsino doing some sort of a magical ritual then turning into...a harvester.

3)Cutscene entitled epilogue
Show Cassandra going in some sort of courtyard where a large number of seekers are standing. Leliana approaches and Cassandra hands her a book. She leaves and Leliana remains behind, reflective.

4)Cutscene entitled the attack begins
Show Meredith telling her people to charge thru some gates.

i've made a mistake. not BICs but BIKs. there are in the movies folder. so i don't really know which side player must choose to get this. just the fact that orsino is probably is another final boss (assuming if meredith is a final boss)
there is also a BIK of Chantry blowing up and another one with Leliana.
P.S. above me you can see the screens

I mean sure, I expected some losses and some knocks... But I'd hope they would tie into your choices.

Even in the ME2 suicide mission, people die only if you've messed up.   Likewise, in DAO it was possible to kill off companions by making bad choices.

I appreciate we haven't seen the whole game yet, but this just feels like overkill misery to me.

That was what I was thinking as well. Your only surviving sibling dies, your mother is killed by a serial killer, most of your companions betray you.

BioWare is - from what I've seen so far - taking the whole grim/dark trope to a whole new level.
