It doesn't to you, that's my point. To other people, it might. Your character obviously wouldn't agree or condone it, I can see one of mine doing so for the reasons mentioned.

I wasn't trying to talk anyone out of their opinion, I was relaying my own. At least we can agree on that if not on anything else.

Yeah, like I said, I'm not trying to make anyone mad. :( I think it's a credit to the game writing that it can cause such debate. And @hhh89, I can absolutely see a mage killing Anders for what he did, I'm pretty sure it'll be an option.

I'm also sort of curious about the Friendship/Rivalry thing with Anders mattering again, because from what I'm getting, the guide pretty much implied that he's going to do this no matter what, yes? I just can't see a Rivalry Hawke doing anything other than killing him. It might have been cool to be able to convince Anders he was wrong that way and then have Orsino blow up the Chantry (since we fight the guy anyway). But since we're told we definitely have to make a choice...yeah. Probably not happening.

Maybe (and I I want to mark MAYBE) Anders or Seb left the party depending the side you choose (of course in the case of a rival Anders, and Orsino destroys the chantry). I really don't know. It's lame that even if we choose the rivarly path Anders destroys the Chantry.

Just wanted to mention,  in case anything I posted was offensive....I don't want to dissuade anyone from anything.  Just putting my opinion out there for innocent discussion, that's all.  It's an interesting situation and I like to see other's reasonings.  *Shrugs.*  Sorry, in advance, if that was the case.

For now,  I'll set my cap at Fenris or Sebastian and happily skip my opinionated self to play Pokemon White instead.

You would capture innocent creatures, confine them into small balls, only to release them so that they fight their own bretheren until they fall unconscious or you otherwise abandon them?!

YOU MONSTER.  *raises a rebellion*

Oh Maker, yes.   Why do you think I support the Templars so?  XD  I'll go and name them all after prominent mages too, muahahaha.  *Swishes cape.  Lightning strike.*

That was.... All in good fun of course...please don't kill me.  <3  <- In Alistair voice, of course.-

Don't use that tecnhnique on me!! OH ALIBEAR!! *runs away into a crying fit*

You needn't worry, arsonic.

You relayed your opinion in a very well thought out and polite manner, after all. I enjoyed reading your point of view.

Guess i'm killing anders, isabella, and Merril.
Not too surprising although i thought Fenris was going to be pro mage or ****** me off too but it seems me and him are going to be most aligned and one of the only friendships i have. It also looks like i'm going to be single since the 2 female LI are both crazy.

No one jumped on anyone, it just seemed to me, IMO, that there was a lot of finger wagging at people whose Hawke's were going to romance or keep Anders in their party. Heck, this still happens with Loghain, and both sides have valid points, but I digress. I didn't mean to sound so crass about it, for that I apologize (posting before morning coffee is a no-no now), but ultimately its up to how the player is playing their character that will affect these choices. And as I said before we haven't seen the questline for ourselves so we can't form an solid opinion until we actually played it ourselves.

Please debate upon it, I was enjoying the arguments put forth. And thus my self-imposed rule about posting before coffee will take effect as well. Sorry for the confusion and hurt. Now I must go and continue speeding myself through DA:O and Awakening...my xbox likes to lose my saves ><.

Justice was transformed because of Anders' hatred, let's not forget that.

Ya but in Awakening Justice tells Anders he should rise against the chantry to which Anders replies its not worth getting killed over( or something along those lines)

I got confused about that too. Awakening Anders seems like the type to defy the chantry and templars, but never hate. He too seemed to believe in the maker and Andraste and he was overall, a kindly character.  He even said so himself something along the lines of 'The Circle NEEDS the Chantry'. when you get a quest from Wynne in Awakening.

Well, I guess losing a loved one and then getting overwhelmed by Vengeance does change people... :?

I'm reading the Hepler post again, and:

As a general rule, the way friendship and rivalry works, is that friendship means agreeing with and supporting the follower in what *they* want to do, no matter how crazy, illogical or dangerous to self and others. Rivalry means opposing their big cause, often for the right reasons. So it's very possible to be a better friend to someone by choosing the rivalry path, since you're trying to stop them from giving in to their own self-destructive whims. It's not always the most intuitive, but definitely don't think of friendship as doing the "right" thing and rivalry as doing the "bad" thing. It's just as likely to be the other way around.

I note she said "trying" to stop. I am not filled with hope for redemption, alas, especially because I think he's a non-optional companion in game.<_< Although all this talk makes me anxious to see what results klace gets with a Rival Anders playthrough.

@chignon and everyone else: Agreed. I enjoyed your points of view as well. I honestly could go either way, and I'll have the playthroughs to show for it. The Anders thing is just so jarring because all we have of him is Awakening, and then the recruitment mission where he just seems like a beaten puppy. Then, you know, we get this. The Anders thread is going to explode with angst in a few days.

It seems all Qunari are the same. Also I love the fact that the Qunari have pointed ears. BTW who voices the Arishok he sounds familier

I'm crossing my fingers that having a rivalry with Anders will have some effect on his ending. I'm sure the Chantry's toast either way, but maybe Anders doesn't have to be the one to do it. XD

I will be miffed, though, if I get rivalry to 100 with the guy, and he acts exactly the same at the end. >_>

Maybe the most honest option is to be a rival to everyone. You are essentially advertising that your goals are the ones you care most about and that you will only aid them if it firs into your plans.

I sent you a message, but I meant to ask you -- you say you saw the chantry explosion video that shows the Grand Cleric and others running away.  Does it seem to imply that they did indeed get away?

Assuming that was you that saw the videos... LOL.

It does seem like a big personality change (along with the voice change) but I would hope the explanation is in the game.  I mean how Vengeance overwhelmed Anders, Justice has a good spirit (or whatever to call him) so something happened.

Oh you asked if they escaped? I am not sure...the cutscene ended with the chantry panorama. Let me sneak on my bfs compy and get pictures of it ^^

Btw, even if i watched this particular video only ONCE (didn't seem that important to me) i didn't notice Anders...

Huh, there's option number two. If you don't help him distract the Grand Cleric, they get away. Anders realizes that you were right and he almost did something horrible, asks for forgiveness. Seb will still be mad enough to leave if you do so, just because he tried. The Templar/Mage end game stuff still kicks off because it's still an assassination attempt on the Grand Cleric by a mage.

...I grant you it's not the happiest of endings, but definitely a bit easier to deal with.

@omearaee- When you talk to Justice in Awakening about what he wants to do for Kristoff, he tells you he wants vengeance on the darkspawn. Not that he wants to stop the darkspawn from hurting anyone else or anything like that-he wants to avenge Kristoff. Which is not a bad thing, necessarily, but mixed with Anders' anger...I can see how that could happen.
