Oh! I remembered something else! (until my Mr moves his ass from the compy)

They were running towards the back of the Chantry, the Grand Cleric was up in a balcony. Is there a rear entrance too? If not...then.....

Ah, I see...

Looks like they can't escape, perhaps...

she escapes via helicopter or she jumps and her robes turn into a parachute

To be honest, I just want to know to what extent personal views affect rivalry/friendship as opposed to being a dick/nice to the person. If the only way to get full friendship/rivalry is to be artificially nice or mean and act in accordance to their views, I don't see it as that much better than approval/disapproval in regards to people trying to appease the characters - only that in some instances they'll instead be trying to antagonise them.

On a more topical note, I do hope Anders, Master Exploder, is not set in stone. I'm fond of the character, but if he'll always do that and not show any remorse for it I do think in the majority of my playthroughs I'd have to kill him off, due to my inability to play as anything less than morally grey. And yeah, that'd be sad, but either way I think I have to give the writers kudos for forcing that kind of conflict.

On the other hand, if every LI companion comes complete with that kind of conflict I am going to have at least one single Hawke (screw celibate though; that Hawke's going to be all up on everyone in the brothel) who spends the entire playthrough clinging to Aveline and Varric and thanking them for being sane. It will be magical.

I agree with you on all your points. Even the brothel:P. I am definately buying the guide, if only to learn more about the friendship/rivalry paths.

I'm leaning now more towards my last hypothetical option with rivalry: that it makes him actually feel remorse. Because otherwise, why would a rival Hawke EVER let him live? (Other than "Dammit. I need a healer.")

I want to see the dialogue options, too, though. Like when he says he wants to be free of Vengeance, and needs help- if you were his rival, wouldn't you want to help him do that? I think so, but even before we found out Anders went nuts on the Chantry I thought it was suspiciously easy. Anders says Vengeance/Justice is completely bound with him, that it's impossible to find where one starts and one ends- but all he has to do is drink a potion, now? Oh, and distract the High Cleric? I would think a rival Hawke would be allowed to pick some dialogue options along the lines of "That sounds suspiciously easy to me, and incredibly suspicious period. I don't think you're telling me the truth." THAT would make more sense than just refusing his supposed want to be free.

It's truly demoralizing to hear that Anders is psychologically beyond all therapy. I was hoping there's a less brutal alternative to confront him about his militant indignation towards the chantry, but if going on rivalry path with him generates the same results, then death might be the only option for him. It's tragic because on one hand, he's always had to endure oppression and repudiation for something he was born with; coupled with having to watch someone he loved being made tranquil, but at the same time, inflicting carnage on innocent children is unforgivable. Committing such an act without an ounce of remorse is even worse.

I hope so. The last thing I need is the thought that Anders will always be a child killer in my head.

I do agree.  I'm really wondering what effect the rivalry status will have, if any.

Either way the Chantry is doomed as we know it.  Given Cassandra's tone at the beginning of the game, no matter if Anders killed innocents, the Chantry is falling apart.  Seems to me that he, or the actions of others, did inspire an uprising.

The Warden is powerful indeed. It's probably why they disappeared, Flemeth didn't want competition for the title of "BadAssery Personified".

Guh. I can live with choosing between Sebastian and Anders *sob* but pleeeeeeease let there be an option to "redeem" or "rescue" Anders. Or change the circumstances of the Chantry blowing up, even if the event itself is set in stone. I don't want my Anders to become a total villain!

This does confirm that my Anders romance playthrough will be a fellow mage, though.

This.

I had briefly entertained the thought of romancing Anders with one of my Hawkes, but like with Morinth or Project Overlord in ME2, that is one instance where I can't set aside metagaming.
