Arconist mentioned that the stragegy guide had a specific chapter dealing with companions and romances. I wonder how far I'll get if I covertly pick up a guide while I'm getting the game and read it in the back corner of the store like a maniac and then quietly put it back and leave.

With how intricate this is seeming to be, who knows. Though you'll probably be able to remember tip offs at least. Could always take a notebook back there and scribble down important things to remember.

All the game guides are plastic wrapped in my local stores. The nerve!

Agree. That's a cons for me, especially because they insisted a lot on the family theme.

New Spoilers to put in re-cap:

Anders stole the Warden maps from
another Grey Warden planning an expedition to The Deep Roads. He reveals
this after Carver is inflicted with The Blight. Anders doesn't turn him
into a Grey Warden, you do a quest to find the Wardens in the Deep
Roads named Stroud. Who takes Carver away and says you may never see him
again.

That same Grey Warden shows up during the end of Act 2
saying there are urgent Grey Warden issues and they are too important to
even help Kirkwall stop the Qunari war.

You cannot save Leandra from being murdered.

Isabella seems to be an optional companion.

This is what irks me as well. If the family is so important, I want them to be alive so I can fight for them.

I don't think. Aveline gets remarried.

Someone already mentions she does to a fellow Guardsmen named Donnic who can also come help in the final battle.

@Klace re: Leandra, well as depressing as it sounds, to some extent I can see why keeping that in there because of that Mage's connection with Orsino. For any 'Mage siding' Hawke it'd give them some motive for wanting to kill Orsino when he admits to his connection to that Mage.

I'm still appaled by the fact that you can lose a character you have to BUY apart from the main game. I'm still getting it and I'm still saying "adieu" to the guy, but come on... You have to buy the guy apart and depending on your choices you won't even be able to use him.

I wouldn't want my judgement on who to side with to be affected by how much I payed for.each. Nor will I, but it sure makes me wonder if it wasn't a bit of a weird choice of character to lose.

and does it affect dialogue any with your companions and other NPCs?
