I agree. This whole 'rivalry' and 'friendship' thing is starting to sound more and more like the Paragon-Renegade options from ME2. And I mean ME2, where it doesn't matter how often you choose one, it's the percent you did over what you could have done that determines the outcomes.
Gah, I hope I'm just overthinking it. Because that would just... suck.
What would also suck is if, by having a rivalry with someone, it means you can't do any quests for them. Because if completeing quests = friendship points, well, sorry guys! Screw your problems--I'm saving you by ignoring you!
No, it's not like that. You can do their quests and gain a lot of rivarly points.

I ran into Carver again. He knew what happened to Leandra.
He seemed really jerkish. He didn't even want to chat he wanted to leave.
Does he blame you for her death?

Good news is I heard that once you reach max rival/Friendship it stays their for everyone but sibs, so once you make your friends they won't leave you.
That would be really really helpful if true.

I believe a dev posted/ said in a video that you would most of the rivalry/ friendship points from doing the companion quests. Which means you can get either of those in any given situation. It all comes down to how you choose to handle it.

That doesn't sound very jerkish, though.
Where did you run into him again? The same will probably happen for Beth, too, if she joins the Wardens.

Well, Hawke and the Warden disappear around the same time, right? Maybe BOTH of them just said screw it and now they're off killing things and disappearing into tents together. And probably inviting Zev along.
Well, we do know they disappeared around the same time and that's somehow important and seems to be setting up DA3. But I was being silly in saying they ran off together in a romantic sense. Just trying to lighten the impending feeling of doom that this game is going to depress me immensely.

Which quest has the Zevran cameo? And when is it? It's not really late in the game, right...?
I'm just trying to gauge how long I have to wait to meet Zevran again, and hear his thoughts on his missing beloved. Because I'm still all torn up about the fact that my M!Tabris and Zevran can't be together. *sniff*

I got friend points for doing the quest needed to initiate the making out. So not rivalmance.
Oh my, if he comes back please inform us...
The heck, these whole relationship thing is starting to seem more and more a mess. Now they leave even after starting the relationship and being in a friendly zone.
We don't need a guide, we need some Freud to analyze these characters.
It doesn't make sense, seems like the writers just decided to turn every situation in the worst possible drama. Really, I don't want happy ending unicorns ranbows and sparkling dolphins...but a bit of normal realism, a bit of sense o_O

...I thought *I* was a pessimist. Last I checked, I have friends who haven't abandoned me, betrayed me, or who I've been forced to kill. And no one in my family has been killed by a serial killer or tainted by evil. Or killed by an ogre. There a line between 'bad things happen' and 'oh dear god, are you going to stop giving me bad news at any point time?'. Plus, if a game is so realistic and like real life, why would one use it as escapism? A lot of people have lives that suck. I kinda thought games were so we could have a chance while playing to, you know, forget that life sucks.
