That's why people, that's why. That's why the Templars jump the gun every time something bad happens.

Because even one of the most trusted mages might be a giant corpse demon

Meredith is possesed as well, apparently. Posted Image

Then again, Meredith is...whatever she is. I don't know if it's been specifically mentioned, but it involves red glowing eyes which makes me think demons/blood magic. So it goes a bit like this, I imagine:

Hawke: Dear Maker, Orsino was a Harvester! Meredith was right, I should never have trusted him!
Meredith: Yes I was! Now you will pay (cue red eyes)
Hawke: Wait, demon possession in a Knight-Commander? What? You're all insane, ARGH. :pinched:

(Humorous option line: "Dammit Anders, if you had to blow up the Chantry, could you have made sure the two nutcases were at least inside as well?")

Slum you do realise the templar commander turns into an abomination as well with red glowing eyes and electricity even if you do side with the templars this is not black and white. Also watching the video on page 233 it seems that anders knows what he has done and will gladly accept death for his deeds man this decision is going to be hard >_<

Gah why does the Uk release date has to be friday.

So the Templar-Commander needs to be taken out as well. Although I am a bit confused as how she turns into an abomination without being a mage.

And knowing what you've done will result in death doesn't make what you've done any better. Just means that more lives will be lost as a result.

I want that optional line! I also still want an option to just tell them both "Screw you, I'm going home, you're all crazy."

You don't have to be a mage to become an abomination this has been confirmed by david.

Anyone can be possessed, but only mages are abominations. Unless the templars use of quasi-magical abilities and lyrium intake mean that they can also be made into abominations. In which case...lock them up and abuse them if they get huffy, right?

By the templars logic then, shouldn't we lock everyone up then since they cna be tempted by demons and be turned into abominations?

Isn't this undercutting the games's lore?  Anyone can be possessed? Isn't possession by a demon a reason mages are watched.? I'm a little confused this.  Oh well, I'll have some tea and I'm sure the feeling will pass. :D

Mages are more likely to get possessed because they're linked or something to the Fade where demons live. But when you dream, you go to the Fade, I think. Dwarves can't I believe, since the Stone shields them from the Fade.

Nope; standard humans and elves can become abominations as well (not sure about dwarves and am to lazy to look it up). The only real difference between mages and non-mages in the abomination department is that the former as a much higher chance of becomming one due to the whole connection to the fade bit.

David said the reason why they go for mages is cause they can use the mages powers to full effect. A normal person will just have the demons abilities. A mage turning into an abomination rarely happens from what I gather the chantry keeps a leash on mages because they are too powerful imo and they can use them in exalted marches if they need to. They also use tranquils for trade and being a tranquil must not be nice after watching anders boyfriend. Cause being a tranquil is not what he expected it to be.

Possesion can happen to anything that is or was living in Dragon Age. That why Corpses and Trees come alive and fight you. They are possessed. You also can see in both redcliff and the circle tower people possessed/charmed by demons.

The high levels of magic in mages just makes them irresistible to demons. As explain in the codexes, mages are the only ones able to shape reality (in a limited way) by their wills alone in the real world. In the fade, demons innately shape their sorroundings. They want that same power in the real world and the only ones that can give that to them are mages.

Not to mention mages, if they can not control their own power, can end up accidently releasing demons into the real world just like what happened to poor Conner.

It's nice that we can live in a world and have friendly debate without fear of retribution, isn't it?

I believe abominations are only the result of demons possessing mages. A normal person is just possessed but the magic within mages causes a transformation into an Abomination.

This is true my mistake. We have seen humans possesed in DAO they did not warp into a monster (eg kitty and the girl) but having a demon possessing anyone is a spell for trouble.

I think the logic is that demons actively seek mages, because upon possessing them, they would have their powers. The link to the Fade that the mages have is also possibly a factor: this link is good for more info: dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Abomination

The Templars and the Lyrium thing is an interesting point, too. We know from DA: O that it's addictive, and supposedly enhances anti-magic powers, although Alistair seemed to think that was a lie and just an excuse to get Templars addicted to lyrium and under Chantry rule. Can high lyrium use create a greater affinity for the Fade in a normal templar and attract demons? Maybe. It's certainly an interesting thought, the Chantry almost becoming what they are supposed to fight.

Also, David Gaider has said that the "tracking with phylactery" business is a form of blood magic, and the lyrium codex entry from DA:O says lyrium is used for "tracking and fighting maleficarum". Is there something going on there? Are Circle mages casting the tracking spells for them (I assume it's a spell), otherwise, what exactly does a templar do to divine someone's location from their blood?

Yes, and it is shown in DA:O if you play warrior or a rogue - Uldred clearly states that your raw potential strengthened with a demon behind it would  be unstoppable - meaning, anyone can be possesed. And as we seen on the third floor of Cricle Tower, even tranquils can be changed into shades and shade is a demonic form in real world as stated in Codex.
