Ahh...well, okay. I'll find out for sure tommorrow when I have the game n the guide in my hands...LOL. :)

When you'll get the guide, can you post all the info about the companions various outcomes depending on the rivarly/friendship?

The guide apparently does a very good job at not spoiling.  So cruel.

Any more information on Leandra? A friend of mine just told me that she dies regardless of what side quest you did. (After some Qunari related question with the Vicount) I hope he's wrong...

Someone said that s/he left Carver at home with Leandra for the Deep Roads expedition and that Leandra was alive when s/he returned.

I think Klace mentioned in one of his playthroughs he tried to go n save her as soon as the quest popped up but he was still unable to( he did this as a female mage)...and then ran into Carver later on, where they discussed what happened...apparently if you leave your sibling behind they get shipped off to the templars or circle right away before that even takes place, I believe. I could be wrong as I said yesturday( which was at around 6pm EST)...the servers started acting screwy right after I read that on here.

Yes, but Klace made Carver a Grey Warden and not a Templar.

No, but there was that guy a few days ago that was here and apparently had a copy of that guide in hand.  And he relayed at least to me that the guide was very good at not spoiling.

Using violence like that to force a change is no real change at all, just a switch between the oppressed and the oppressor.

The thing that really gets me most of all is that by doing such a horrible destructive thing, Anders is single-handedly proving the Chantry mantra of "all it takes is one" that they use to oppress mages in the first place.

One mage. One. One blew up an entire cathedral using magic in conjunction with demons.

It's funny - I was ambivalent before - I saw both sides of the argument. The mages don't want to be oppressed, and the Chantry doesn't want rogue mages.

I don't think anything could of convinced me more that all mages need to be kept on a tight leash - cut off from the world and locked away - better than what he did.

And that's the opposite of what he wanted.

wasn't their "one mage" theory only proven accurate because of the situation the templars have created -- keeping the mages on a tight leesh?  obviously, the answers aren't as clear cut as you're making them out to be.  subjegating a powerful group of people is only going to lead to dire consequences, and for this situation, the templars are more to blame than the mages are.  despite the templars' tight control, a mage still slipped through, and his actions stemmed entirely from the abuse he recieved from the templars.  who's to say that would have otherwise happened had mages been free?

Leandra doesn't die while you are on the expedition, she dies sometime in act 2...long after your sibling becomes a warden, dies or joins the Templars/Circle.

I see. But I remember that he said something about Isabela and her level on the friendship or rivarly to prevent her escaping.

Yes, so it might be entirely true that they do suggest that companions be at certain friendship/rivalry before  you start a certain quest to avoid crisis/betrayal.

This is correct... I was here for that as well. It's a piggyback guide...and they usually don't spoil anything( knows this because he has the FF 13 guide...which has zero spoilers in it outside of the sidequests). The way piggyback sets up their guide is they give you synopsis of it...saying where heavy spoilers for gameplay would be...as they tend to keep the story spoilers to an extreme minimum( unlike prima n brady).

@ Everyone else... I wll try as I'm planning on reading through the guide first...before I start playing...though I'm playing as a warrior first...so in my case it would be Bethany...though chances are I will take her n Anders to the deep roads with me.

In my opinion yes. I really hope so, since I'm going to take one.

Hehe, funny you should say that, I'm wondering if the latter is possible. As in... if you can be rivals with Bethany.

I went through the demo a couple of times because I noticed that when you first meet Wesley and Aveline, if you take the direct route in that convo, her friend score gets a +15 boost, yet the other 2 both seem to just give +5 (with Carver also getting a +5 friend boost as well I might add).

It'll be interesting to find out what makes them tick and what ticks them off :D

As for you getting the +15 boost for Carver, do you remember what choices you'd made in the last bits of dialogue? I know with Aveline you can get a +15 friend boost if you tell her that you can't be the one to make the choice about Wes (think the right side ones give either a small or big rival boost) but forgot to pay proper attention to the siblings boost.

In my conversation I chose all the Sarcastic/Charming options, and when it came to Wesley, I told Aveline it was her choice.

for those who have played DA2, what's Merrill's reaction to Anders blowing up the Chantry?

does she support it? is she appalled by it?

would she support Hawke if he sided with the Templars afterwards?

I think the "Nice" option when talking to Wes gives +15 to Carver, 0 to Bethany (The one where you just ask if he's ok to travel). Which makes sense, because the other choices are "Snarky comment about templars" and "Warning templar to stay away". You get +5 for those, I assume because Carver approves of you defending his sister no matter what, but the first one nets more.

I wonder if you'd get more rivalry/friendship depending on class, too. He might feel extra overshadowed if you're a mage: your dad was, Bethany was, and now Hawke. Being the only kid not a mage might make him feel a bit more left out.

Yeah well if you did that earlier too you would also have got a +5 friend for him as well as I mentioned earlier.

I imagine you will be able to get him to 100% friend, well if your a Mage that is obviously seeing as Warrior/Rogues will never get that chance. Just as I imagine will be able to get Bethany to rival (be funny if got some rival points just for selecting Templar as spec :P ) probably just means am gonna need to bring her on a few quests than I had planned (ie. ones where I can show my disapproval of mages :D )

My main party in that playthrough is going to be a melee/bows party

Magic isn't impressive, now Delana (Hawke) leads... SWORDS FOR EVERYONE (except my exiled prince and Bianca's owner).

*Dog barks* :D

Dammit, is it Friday yet :/

Edit: @Arsonic odd, because on my last playthrough of the demo with my Warrior FemHawke, I only got +5 for both from picking that 'nice' option (just as I had for the snarky one) and whilst it been a while since picked the 'direct/aggressive' option am sure got +15 just for Bethany which makes sense seeing as I am guarding her. But what you say makes sense in that regard... +15 to Carver for top, +5 for both for middle and +15 for Beth on bottom makes sense. Hmm, am gonna go have another playaround, doesn't take long to get to that scene.

Now that I think about it, even though I was using the sarcastic comments for most of my dialogue, I did use the nice option on Wesley after using all the investigate options to find out what Aveline and Wes were doing there. I remember him saying his sword arm was a loss, and Aveline said he would have hers, as always. So that probably contributed to Carver's approval.

She expresses she doesn't want to see the Circle punished for what Anders did, but all companions at certain rivalry/friendship will stand by your decision no matter what.  Except for Seb, if you choose to keep Anders.

Yeah, none of the companions really commented on what Anders did, just whether you should side with Mages or Templars. I think Fenris said something along the lines of "See, freaking mages, I told you so", but it's really short. I'd love to hear his response if you keep him in the party, haha. I don't think any of them commented on killing Anders, but they might have after the clip we saw.

So from lurking on this thread and what little I pieced together, I am under the assumption based on how you want to play (class, personality, etc) some characters are better left as rivals so they at least respect you, in case being their friend makes them want to dissuade you from your course.

Any way to confirm this crackpot theory of mine lol

I think to some extent it seems to be more to dissaude them from doing what they were planning to do. T-Hawke-jitsu (H being silent ;) ) as it were :P
