I think he's locked into your party when it starts, so yes... He's the one who seems to get Hawke into that expedition because of his brother, so yeah. I think he'd have to be involved in it.
Aw. I'll likely be taking Carver and Anders with me so Carver doesn't die (unless I decide he'd make a fine templar) and... I just won't care about anyone in my Deep Roads party. I mean, I'll like them, but I won't like-like them. Hopefully, it's short.
It won't be short. sadface.

Rivalry really does NOT mean being an ass to your companions. It means disagreeing with their view points.
I hope you're right.

Getting back to topic (puts away sword) so who wants drinks?
*smirk* What kind of drink? Fine dwarven brew or red wine?
EDIT:
So, based on what we know, about the friendly/Rilvary path:
Anders, Fenris, Merrill are more suitable to go the Rilvary and Aveline, Issie, Varric and Basti are more friendly?
That all depends on the type of playthrough... Which one are you talking about?
The one I can get maximum companions staying with me in the final battle.
So that means we are going to have to be complete jerks to Anders, Fenris, and Merrill, just so they don't abandon Hawke?
......
Rivalry isn't being jerky. It's moreso disagreeing with them in most (if not all) of their decisions. Sometimes, to quote Ser Laidlaw, "For their own good"

What if I do agree with some of their ideas but not ALL of them? What happens then?

You cheat the system?

Ah yes, "cheat the system" where an individual breaks the game by deciding that their own decisions are the most important and if anyone trys to disuade them, they can go jump off a cliff.
I have dismissed this claim.

Anyone else starting out as a Fem Rogue? what support will I have in the mage element? And where is the pic of Alister..I am pining for him
My first playthrough (starting tonight, *squee*) will be a female Rogue. My second character will be a fem Mage. I plan to have my mage romance Anders, and my rogue will romance either Sebastian or Fenris. Whichever steals her heart first.
In the demo I liked the rogue skills, and the mage has amazing powers. I thought the warrior sucked though, and I always play as a warrior first, but not this time. Maybe the full game will be different? I hope so anyway.
Only 4 hours to go.

and Bethany/Carver return for the Ending battle.
As for Rival-It just means not agreeing with them.
IE--Correcting Fenris when he says all mages should be made tranquil.
or telling merril that pacts with demons are a bad idea.
not being an ass, just not agreeing.

It's the BA collar and slicked back hair that give him a very Dracula-ish feel xD Plus with that voice, one could just imagine him at the top of a tower in front of a lightning filled sky going, "MUAHAHAHAHA THE DAY IS MINE"

I think you can do a romance regardless of if you do rival/friendship, as long as you get to the higher levels of one or the other. Though in the last gameplay thingy they did on Saturday, they did say that you'd have to navigate carefully with the rival romance to make it work? Or something.DaVanguard wrote...
So wait could you romance merrill if she is at rival status (speculation but the truth wouldnt hurt)
