You gotta wonder about that.  Why on earth is the magister going to buy a mansion (or have one randomly) in a town in the Free Marches that your escaped slave is just passing thorugh.  Not that I'm complaining!  At least he doesn't live in the alienage like poor Merrill.

In the gameplay video with Mike Lidlaw on Gamespot there was a quest that takes place in the magister's mansion

I know he does, I just wonder why he bought it.

My theory about Meredith. If you side with Mages you fight her because she is trying to put down your mage revolt while if you side with The templars you fight her because the First Enchanter Elf dude is controlling her with Blood mage.

Either that or it could have something to do with Hawke being "changed"

That's what I am hoping for but her response to why anyone would want to convert to the Qunari religion outside of escaping justice seemed hostile to me.

It's interesting that Fenris gets to keep the mansion (or any mansion for that matter), from a social perspective... I think in DA:O lore somewhere it's noted that elves who try to move up and out of the Alienage are disliked by their neighbors. But in his "intro" story on the romance thread, not to mention his introduction seen in the Laidlaw interview gameplay, Fenris does seem very proud, and rather unlike most of the city elves we meet in Origins...

I know he does, I just wonder why he bought it.

Perhaps there's some kind of loophole where, if you put your hand through someone's chest and kill them, you don't actually have to buy any of their property and can just claim it as your own.

To pull up the map you have to go Area>Act 2>Exteriors>Hightown>Night. When it loads hold tab and look behind where you spawn, you should be able to click something to make the map appear.

And sorry, it says nothing about what the name of the magister is.

The Magister is named Danarius. In the regular demo without using the console you can see his mansion on the map in Hightown. Just hit M.
