What have you people done to yourselves?
How will you feel come March 8 when the game comes out and you can't muster any excitement?
I'll let you know after my Hawke has had a couple prostitutes and a nug.

Dude, wake up, we are not you. I grow more and more excited the more spoilers I see. I read spoilers about movies before I see them, I flip to the back of the book when I'm reading. I love my spoilers.
Now shoo and don't spoil yourself and ruin your enjoyment of the game. Mine is robust.

My real excitement is in the COMPANIONS. You can't access any of their plots in the demo though.
So I'm going in completely fresh in that area.

Interesting notion there. Hope TGP able to explain this: if a mage is being possessed by a spirit, is he still an abomination?
There was a conversation with Wynne like that. Her asking ambiguous questions about what makes an abomination an abomination. One of the responses was, "If one retains one's humanity, one is not an abomination." I think.

You know, somehow I doubt most people in this thread feel they are ruining the game for themselves. Otherwise, they wouldn't be in this thread. Personally, I like to know most of the plot beforehand. As important as story is, it's secondary to execution. Just knowing the plot doesn't really mean anything to me, but playing the game and seeing how well it's done? That's where the impact lies, in my opinion.
It's not like it matters that much, ignoring my own reasons. Every single plot device and twist that you'll find in the game have been done before ad nauseum. And, to make sure this post reaches it's quota for gratuitous Latin, nihil novi sub sole. It's not like I'll be surprised by anything, anyway, so just let me enjoy the thread, eh?

Sounds like an appropriate response. Shock, self-comforting namecalling, then slowly degenerating into flat out WHYYYY.

Have any of you cracked the codex entries, yet? I read one about Marian as a mage and one about Bethany after Bethany dies. They're really interesting and provide a lot of backstory for the family. I was getting to the one about Carver but the demo crashed during the second ogre fight.
Carver:
Carver grew up surrounded by magic he couldn't truly understand. He cared deeply for his family, but sometimes felt like the stupidest person in the room. Carver foundered in Lothering, caught between the gifts of his apostate sister, Bethany and the growing skill of his more focused sibling Garrett*. But even as Carver groused about his lot, he remained dedicated to protecting those he loved. He didn't think twice about sacrificing himself to save his mother during the flight from the darkspawn, and although Carver struggled to find his way in life, there is gratification in knowing his death had a purpose.
Bethany:
Marian*'s younger sister, Bethany, died during the family's flight from Lothering, leaving Marian and Bethany's twin brother, Carver, as the only surviving children. Like Marian, Bethany was an apostate mage hiding from the Circle since childhood. Protecting Marian and Bethany from the templars became the defining fact of the family's life, forcing them to move frequently and live well below their means in small hamlets like Lothering. Bethany was close to her eldest sibling and idolized and envied the way Marian embraced magic, but she could never give up her resentment of being different and fear for what their future would hold.

I think it's interesting how if your Hawke is a mage, he/she stays home in Lothering with Bethany while Carver enlists in the king's army, but if your Hawke is a rogue/warrior, both your Hawke and Carver enlist. It makes a lot more sense when Carver says, "Why are you looking at me/us? I've/We've been running since Ostagar!"

No problem. You can actually access this in the demo after the time skip when you're with Isabella, so it was easy.

Anders is an abomination, not a blood mage.
He's not an abomination either.
An abomination is a somewhat vague term as it refers to both the monstrosities the mage can turn into as well as those who retain their normal shape with the demon apparently controlling them like a puppet. Exactly why some victims transform and others, like Uldred and Connor, retain their human forms at least for a time is not clear.
Justice/Vengeance isn't controlling Anders as a puppet in anyway. They share the same body, but Justice/Vengeance isn't controlling it -like- a puppet. The only times Justice ever comes out seems to be when in great need/when Anders is terrifyingly angry.
Vengeance is still a -spirit.- A more selfish spirit certainly, but still a -spirit.- Anders isn't an abomination. while conversely you can make him a Blood Mage. He even comments on it at one point, I think.

The official reveal for Anders on his character page calls it a demon, not a spirit:
Anders, the light-hearted rebel mage from Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening, has changed. Urged by his friend Justice to fight the Circle of Magi more actively, Anders agreed to become Justice's human host… only to find that his anger at the Circle warped Justice into the demonic spirit of Vengeance. Now Anders must struggle mentally and physically to maintain his control over the demon within... at least long enough to see the Circle of Magi overturned foreve

Yeah, he's a spirit. In the sense that demons are still spirits.Krytheos wrote...

On a more serious note; I always though the distinction between demons and benevolent spirits was a little vague.
On the one hand we have the definition that a demon is any spirit that's malicious in it's intent and on the other hand the definition that a demon is any spirit that embodies the darker parts of the human psyche.
When we go with the latter definition Vengeance looks like he qualifies as a demon.

Ack seriously. Granted he doesn't seem to have such a great life ahead of him from what little we have. Makes it hard to decide.
