Somehow I wish to believe everyone is BI. And that all you need is love.

Let's all form a circle and hold hands.  And believe in the power of positive thinking!

Just nobody touch me.

Why does it matter so much??  Seriously, why?  I could see it if you had a particular fondness for one of the characters and were hoping to be able to ship according to taste.  But some on the forum seem to regard it as some kind of triumph of pansexualism or something.  And this is why people on other gaming forums talk about these games as dating sims.

I'm sure I care what other people on other gaming forums think.

On a personal level, I would probably prefer the games if they expended the efforts used to make romances in other areas of the game.

But on a social level, I recognize that many other people value the romance plotlines in the games.  I know you use the term dating sims as a perjorative, but they do have their entertainment value to some people.  And since I know they've already expended the effort on the dating sim elements, I wish for others to be able to enjoy their particular pursuit in that regard.  So, y'know, I care because other people care.

I'm telling you, if you're not careful I'm going to have to set up a group specifically focused on hero worshipping you, k?

Aii, this forum is like a minefield of spoilers today! I tripped over a few on my way to this thread to cast my vote, which is that they're not all bi.

Now that that's done, I'mma outta here. :D

I'm getting so wrapped up in this thread, I'm starting to think everyone is bi. Not just the Love Interests, but everyone. Bethany, Varric, Cassandra, Flemeth, Wesley, Loghain, Harrowmont.... Oh, god, it's escaped the games! Now it's my roommate, my cat, David Gaider... EVERYONE!

Pansexuality is a good thing in my opinion.

Making a character straight who could be convincely (note: in character) bisexual, is torturing those who can see it. It's like a baby that can't quite reach it's spoon.

And what if someone doesn't see the world or the characters as you do?  Should NPCs be infinitely moldable to the mindset of the player?

I liked that Origins companions hadn't certain things that not even the godalmighty powerful, irresistable Warden couldn't make them do.  And one thing that is true about people is that some are just straight.  If the only four people Hawke can get with aren't "just straight", it will be fine by me, it will just seem odd.

I don't , either, but since this is a pool of potential customers, BioWare might.  Brace yourself.

OTOH, if the extreme that some criticize starts becoming reality, that could be a problem.  I have faith in the writers, but the push to make anyone and everyone Hawke's **** buddy sounds like a recipe for shallow storytelling to me.

I am confused by your response. I stated plainly that I like the characters to stay in character. I would love it if more diversity were available, myself. But I also love a fully explored character, as well. I don't understand what your questions have to do with what I said. I think most people agree that characters should be independent of the PC.

It could be and it couldn't.

If all they do is turn the "bisexual flag" on for the straight LIs... yeah, that would be terrible. If they have written each character so that they are truly bisexual, then it doesn't have to lead to shallow storytelling.

Hawke can already have several different relationships, and can flirt with non-companions. Why on earth do you think that the writers would go out of their way to implement bisexual romances in the worst possible way? They would be dealt with with exactly the same amount of depth and conviction as any other relationship.

(And don't you think you're taking things to the extreme by saying "the push to make anyone and everyone Hawke's **** buddy" --- at what point has anyone advocated that?)

This is my major concern, too. I would hope that they'd prioritize the integrity of the story over the opportunity to satisfy every permeatation of 'ship, and given the amount of times they've mentioned how very costly romances are to produce, it seems like we'd have to lose something. I'd love for all the LIs to be bi, but I'd love even more for all the romances to be deep and distinct depending on who is being romanced and whether my Hawke is male or female.
