They aren't all slavers, are they? I suppor them being optional though, they look really freaky with those four eyes and everything.

Most of them are seeing as how if you listen to the broadcast on Omega, that they were moving against the Council for placing limits on the intergalactic slave trade.  With the Batarians complaining that by them doing so, it's "Limiting their cultural rights" because slavery is apparently part of their caste system.

If you're referring to the situations on Illium.  There's a slight difference.  They're voluntary.  Which turns it from slavery, into "endentured servitude"  If its the person's choice to become a "slave" so be it.  And yea, your statement may be true.  But at least they go out and broadcast it as an integral part of their caste system.
Case in point, the only thing I like shooting more than Geth, are Batarians.

Point taken.  But that doesnt mean I have to like or want them on my squad.  For me, first impressions last a lifetime.  And that was my "first impression" of the Batarians; "Slaving Bastards"   Even the raids on Mindoir were by Batarians I believe.  Once again, not a good first impression of Batarains.

Batarians killed Shepards family. They are especially cruel and violent, murdering Talitha's family with flamethrowers and torturing their slaves brutally. They gloat when human colonies are destroyed.

Racism is usually a term used in regard to the dominant group when they oppress other groups based on race. It's not usually used when the oppressed hates their oppresser. Technically, you could argue that if a slave hates the race or species of the slaver then that slave is racist (or speciest in this case) but the large majority of people would not.

There are slavers among other species, absolutely. But they are exceptions, not the rule. In fact, most of them probably slave for Batarians.
