Right?

I think so at least...so I will ask them if they want to place some ads and give them some tips on where to place them.

I got some examples...like:

http://www.massively.com
http://www.mmorpg.com
Facebook
Gaming newspapers
Xfire

You got some more examples?

I don't know if revenue for this game really can be gathered anymore, at least not to the scale that Atari would want.

But then again, I think NWN's done well, outselling most of the other Bioware titles. Except the console titles, but that's got a lot to do with marketing and swindling Halo players into buying Mass Effect.

Atari? Advertise? Surely you jest.

To be fair, Atari's habit of not promoting their products at all might be better than the fail that is EA advertising.

Atari is not going to be paying anyone anything to advertise NWN 1 and I would be surprised if GOG or Impulse does, either.  But that doesn't really matter, because NWN is old enough that traditional advertising like that isn't going to have much of a positive effect, anyway.  The best way to sell copies of NWN is for everyone who loves the game to help sell it.

That's us.  :)

I go on YouTube and I see people still making lots of NWN videos, or recommending it in online polls or when "Good games for netbooks" threads pop up in various forums I'll see NWN mentioned.  If you know little kids around 10 years old with a decent computer, NWN is perfect.  It so beats the crap out of Runescape.  Anyway, keeping the game in people's minds like that and providing a link for them to buy it at GOG is a great way to get people to try it.

And as I've been saying for years, if someone can make a load of anthropomorphic ("furry") NWN content, it has the promise to get a huge number of people playing NWN, especially with the price of NWN and NWN's system requirements.  There is a huge furry community out there and they're either playing on Furcadia or Second Life and both of those aren't good options for the kind of playerbase.

I also asked them if they could put NWN1 on Steam. That would increase sales for sure. I bet you can sell even my mothers old cutlery and plates there haha....

Grim, I know.  But as the Architect said in The Matrix: "There are levels of survival we are prepared to accept."

@SuperFly_2000: Steam would be very nice.  Do you know anything about the Impulse deal to digitally distribute NWN Diamond?  Are they affiliated with GOG and if not I wonder who made the installer and so on.

I don't know much about Impulse. I just recently heard that they are also selling NWN1. Personally I like the GOG site more so I tend to hang more there....

However...sending a message to Impulse also is probably a good idea...

Who knows...maybe some interest in this ol' game pops up somewhere. There HAS been an increase in sales lately...so....

Right, I don't know either where all these Planescape and Ravenloft freaks come from. It's not like that's got anything to do with D&D. Or has it?
:innocent:

I've been putting up little posters for our server on local gamer locations and comic book shops. I have no idea if it works or not but my hope it to keep NWN alive. I travel for work so finding new spots isn't hard.

Impulse is completely seperate to GOG and is part of Software developer/publisher called Stardock, as for the inststaller i would think it will be similar to the one on GoG.

What also could make things easier is if they made the game files already with the critical rebuild in them so you download and play.I know I didnt have a clue until someone showed me how to navigate this type of game.Im saying a noob like I was wouldve downloaded it and said ..it doesnt work not realizing there is a critical rebuild. Its not about how smart someone should be ..its the user friendly idea.Let them atleast get the full game with a download like steam then hit them with how to add things like hak. People want instant this instant that ..not oh btw you going to need to put this here and add this to what ?lol

My opinion not to be confused with a smart idea.Dreams sold seperately.

The thing is if they decided to sell the game on a place like Steam they would have to do some work on the product to make it work with Steam, which in the case of Atari might just be asking to much. Also if they did sell it on Steam or some other digital download they would boost sales. Take the game Titan Quest the Immortal Throne, released on Steam a while back now and the Titan Quest forums have definetly increased in popularity because now there is almost always a mod on duty there and before there hardly ever was.

It "ain't" gonna happen. They didn't do ANYTHING to finish the game. They took exactly what Bioware had finished with, then tacked on the 1.69 content as a patch because that is what Bioware did. Bioware had no reason to actually re-produce a fully patched installation version as they were no longer being properly paid by Atari in the first place. Since EA took over, nothing more will ever come from Bioware regarding nwn, and since Bioware thinks they are a CGI movie company instead of a game company, likely you won't see much in the way of improved/new/better/playable games from them in the future either.

Regardless, no one is going to take the time, or spend the money to actually get a Plutonium version of NWN released. They can, and DO, sell it just fine via digital downloads now, with all the associated issues of immediately having to patch with the same content you downloaded.

Most game companies are releasing content in such a way that on Release day, the game has to be patched to be workable anyway. It's bad from an end user standpoint, but appears to be totally workable from their viewpoint. Get it past the judges with a buggy version, then patch in content as you can.
