got these failures when i tried to first start the game which i bought yesterday from the ea store, so i checked the forums and got turned to this http://social.biowar...6/index/804361. after awhile fidgeting and playing with my files i changed the parameters in the activation exe file only to get prompted by a screen that says error: could not connect to the ea core. i would appretiate any help in this matter

Give us full system details as listed in the "Read First" thread, and tell us what you have done from the AWC.DLL stickied thread so we dont have to guess.
"Read First" found here: http://social.biowar...6/index/4795299

First thing I would try is download Adobe Air from the Adobe website if you havent done so already.
http://get.adobe.com/air/

As a side note (not related to this error), I would also suggest downloading and installing Direct 9.0c from Microsofts website if you have the Steam, or other digital downlad version of ME2. Sometimes it doesnt get installed properly with the digital versions.

Are you running the installation files as admin? And have you tried it in XP compatibility mode?
Also, are you running any form of wireless, either internet wireless, or local networking? If so, you could have corrupted files from packet loss. Best bet is to plug direct in with a wire and retry the download.

Could you copy/paste the contents of your EACore_App.ini into the thread, as well as give us the location you have installed ME2.

ya i am direct connected the eacoreapp.ini is:

[EACore]
ServerIdleAutoShutdown_ms=15000

UseStandAloneServer=true
SharedServerId=MassEffect2
core.agents.0.id=AGENT_ACCESS
core.agents.0.path="C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\mass effect 2\\binaries\\activation\\activation-shortcut.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /corePort={CPPort}
core.agents.0.supportedtasks=TASK_GET_LICENSE_USER
core.agents.0.handlertype=AIR
core.agents.1.id=AGENT_ACCESS2
core.agents.1.path="C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\mass effect 2\\binaries\\activation\\activation-shortcut.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /corePort={CPPort}
core.agents.1.supportedtasks=TASK_LICENSE_ERROR
core.agents.1.handlertype=AIR
core.agents.2.id=AGENT_PATCH_DL_PROGRESS
core.agents.2.path="C:\\Program FIles\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries\\PatchProgress.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /guid={clientGUID}
core.agents.2.supportedtasks=TASK_PATCH_DL_PROGRESS
core.agents.2.handlertype=QT

You could try deleting all of the contents of that .ini and saving it as a blank file. (You may want to back up the intact file elsewhere in case you want to restore it.) Then try running ME2 again.

Edit the eacoreapp.ini, and change these 3 lines
core.agents.0.path="C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\mass effect 2\\binaries\\activation\\activation-shortcut.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /corePort={CPPort}
core.agents.1.path="C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\mass effect 2\\binaries\\activation\\activation-shortcut.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /corePort={CPPort}
core.agents.2.path="C:\\Program FIles\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries\\PatchProgress.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /guid={clientGUID}

so they read c:\\programsx86\\ instead of c:\\program files

What do you do when this is all your eacoreapp.ini says:

[EACore]
ServerIdleAutoShutdown_ms=15000

UseStandAloneServer=true
SharedServerId=MassEffect2

Threads that have been dead and buried for a year should not be updated with new comments.  If you can find nothing newer than six months old, start your own thread and say that while following the guide to reporting you will find on the top that tells you to "Read First".  Don't be expecting much in the way of answers.  This place died off when all of the site did, about ten months ago.  Only the Off Topic and ME3 forums have any numbers of readers.

There's just no one here, and all of the tech forums on the site are gamer to gamer self-help forums.  Bioware doesn't have support.  EA takes care of that on their own site.
