I had no problem with DA and ME, both non-steam. I installed non-steam ME2 about a year ago, but didn't play it until yesterday because I wanted to play it first with plenty of DLC. Almost every time, I configure weapons or look at codex, journal, etc, it crashed to restart. If I'm not mistaken, I had no problem with the game if I play instead of configuring or reading codex, journal, etc.  I meet all of its requirements. Mine is...

-Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)
-AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @3.2 GHz
-4 GB DDR3-1333 Ram
-plenty of free space in my HD
-Antec 750 PSU
-ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5

?? Did I miss something? Is there anything I can fix it?

Given that you havent filled in a full error report, as indicated by the "Read First" thread, we can only guess as to what is causing your problem.
Read First found here: http://social.biowar...6/index/4795299
1) Download and install the 1.02 patch
2) Download and install DirectX 9.0c from Microsofts website, or install frmo the disk if you have the physical disk version.

@zbenjamin...Thank you for your help. Have you rolled back your GPU driver? If so, did it help? Did you try ASUS's SmartDoctor as someone suggested to you? Did it help?

@Bogsnot1...Thank you, too, for your help. Yes, I've installed 1.01 and 1.02 patches, and DirectX 9.0c. Yes, I installed from the physical disk, too. I don't have GamerOSD and SmartDoctor. You gave me a link, so I'll post my summary and platform versions.

I presume when you said "crash to restart" ME2 crashed and your system would reboot? If so, its not ME2 causing the reboot, but one of the settings inside Windows set to automatically reboot whenever you suffer from a crash. You can change it so it just crashes to desktop instead of rebooting in the control panel. Cant say exactly where, as I dont use Win7.
Have you recently installed SP1 for Win7? That has caused a few crashes for people recently, and they have resolved it by uninstalling/reinstalling SP1.

Failing that, the only other things that spring to mind would be trying another driver for your video card, and doing a reinstall of ME2. You will be asked duringthe uninstall process if you want to keep save games and settings. Say yes to the saves, and no to the settings.

@Bogsnot! I just installed ATI display driver and SP1 which I think I didn't have before. There is no change, so I'll try to reinstall ME2.

Did you install the game software as the Administrator? Its retarded but if you don't run the installer for the game as Admin some of the files may not be installed properly. For most other games I've got on my machine it usually but always solves the problem.

You wouldnt happen to be running Kapersky AntiVirus would you? That has conflicts with games runnign on the Unreal3 engine, and causes all sorts of crashes. If so, disable or uninstall it. I recommend AVG, Avast or Comodo if you want a decent, free AV software package.

@Czar Fiend I think you're right. I right-hand clicked ME2 desktop icon, then click on adm. I've played for about 2 hours without crash! I'm so glad! Thank you very much. I appreciate.

@Bogsnot1 I'm using Norton360. My problem, if I'm not mistaken, has finally been solved! I right-hand clicked ME2 icon, then clicked on administrator.

I thought my problem was solved, but I was wrong. It crashed a lot even after I click on Administrator. It's frustrating! I need your help again.

Can you give us the crash code?
Also, in your My Documents/Bioware/Mass Effect 2/biogame/logs folder should be some log files that I think will be relevent to the crash you are having. Post the contents, unless its a huge wall of text, in which case let me know and I'll PM you my email address to send it to.
Only other quick fix I can think of is roll your video driver back a revision or two.

Bogsnot! There is no files in logs folder. Just empty. When it crashes, it always go straight to restart or reboot. At first, it crashed less frequently, then it did so more frequently. Then low, so on. After I set Bigfoot network card setting to 100.50 mmps and graphic card in game menu to low settings. It didn't crash for three hours (longer than usual), but then it crashed to restart.

I'll try to roll back the video driver. I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Is this a crash to desktop after installing Windows 7 SP1? If so:

- follow Bogsnot1's instructions regarding DirectX.
- After that, try re-running the ME2 config utility and save settings from there.
- You could also update to Catalyst 11.2 drivers, they work fine for me.

Hope this helps!

@QuadraticAmoeba No, the game crashed to restart after and before installing Windows 7 SP1. I find something. It stopped crash for few days after I changed from 1 to 0 on HKEY_Local_Machine/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/CrashControl/AutoReboot. Until I got a new problem yesterday, my game can't be connected to account online, it crashed frequently again. How do I connect?

try typing this into the run field

netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled

win7 and vista are designed to use ecn by default, but the EA servers dont require it.

FYI, Bog, I've stopped visiting the ME-1 forum entirely; nothing going on there. It appears that this place is also almost dead, so I may soon abandon it as well. DA2's forums are very busy, and DAO's are still MUCH more active than this.
