Ah yes,

We have dismissed those claims.

At least they aren't Bethesda for Elder Scrolls V though, they want people to name a child the word for "Dragonborn" that that game's developed language uses...AND it has to be born on the release date. If it is I guess they get something really special...

Yeah. Child Protective Services.

So Bethesda is wanting folks to go forth, procreate, AND name their child after their product all in the name of getting an in-game item?!  *shakes head with a self facepalm* Balls!!

You think they were actually serious?

Maybe not, but it's not going to stop some of the psychos from doing it lol.

They have a hefty disclaimer:

Bethesda proclaims...

Disclaimer: Any reward for completing this quest will not ultimately justify the potential teasing your child could — and probably will — endure over its lifespan. Bethesda Softworks is not responsible for your parenting. You may gain experience points for completing this quest, but you will not care at 3am on a work night. Completion of this quest may also result in decreased desire to play video games and/or function as a human being. Consult with your friends before embarking on this quest; while it may not start in prison, it probably ends there.

But, they also have a super cool prize:

Bethesda clarifies...

Update: If anyone is seriously considering this, we’ve got a few ideas in mind for a collection of quest rewards. How’s this for a shower gift: a Steam key that will grant you, and presumably Dovahkiin him/herself, every ZeniMax/Bethesda game — past, present and future — for life. Once your child eventually achieves cognition — and grows old enough to play intense video games — we think it will agree that this key blows away a pink pleated onesie. As for the rest of the loot, we’ll leave it as a surprise.

Choices, choices :D

That's where fanboyism goes against sense.

Once again, Bioware shows us that they are part of the EA family with this asinine promotion.

Sorry, but I don't intend to be part of a spam campaign. Count me out.

I think the BEST marketing for the game is simply to make it GREAT.

Shenmue would say hi, but Shenmue still feels bad because no one took Shenmue to prom.

Wow. We did it.

Just in the nick of time, too? Who could have guessed. Oh, and in time for you to ask us to do your marketing for you!

Can't believe fans without facebook are disappointed at not being able to help provide EA with free spam aid. And for a non-essential book that could be created by a modder! Skills might have gone from DA2, but Bioware must have at least 5 points of Coercion...
If I'd never heard of bioware and heard of this promo, I'd be really put off this game. Not impressed.

At least I am not going to bother with the FB thing. I shared the first news piece but I won't do it for the rest. EA is clearly just trying to get free publicity.

If they were giving out a better item, I would probably do it though :P

My guess is that those poor lost souls in the hinterlands who must rely on dial-up connections took days to download it and then at the last moment were finally able to get in under their EA account.

Actually if I remember correctly the winner recieves a code that gives them every Bethesda Game ever made and ever to be made for download (free of course)

I am amazed people are willing to be used by a company like this. Sure, free stuff is nice but making and implementing one of these "tomes" takes one person maybe 10 minutes using the toolset. It is truly brilliant marketing though..
