I think the BEST marketing for the game is simply to make it GREAT.
That kind of naive, unrealistic thinking is the reason the good Sierra games died. Some of the best games of all time, Thief for one of many examples, simply didn't sell well enough to keep their makers alive as companies.
Making a great game, or a great book, or a great whatever does not guarantee success. This would be why Dan Brown is recognized and gets movies made of his books rather than deserving authors who know their stuff, and why bands like Starflyer 59 are still basically unknown while for some reason everyone is aware of Britney Spears.

Wow. We did it.
Just in the nick of time, too? Who could have guessed. Oh, and in time for you to ask us to do your marketing for you!
The simple fact is, we are more powerful than they are. What is more likely to make you buy a game? "Oh, yeah, I watched some commercial on tv and it looked cool" when you know trailers often lie, or "My friend played the demo and said it was awesome"? For me, it's the latter every time.
That's what this is supposed to prompt--word of mouth. DA2 goes onto your wall, your friends see it, and the game sells better than it would otherwise. Quite possibly much, much better.
Hell, if I didn't know about DA2 and somebody I knew made me aware of it, I would THANK their ass.
