I gotta agree with Priestly on this one, though.

People who actually helped have the right to get the rewards. Those who complained just don't have anything to say about it and no right to complain about not getting the rewards.

First complain they don't want to do this, and then complain that only the people who did it got the reward. Pffft.

I know I participated, thanks for allowing me to kick some serious facebookage at all those Farmville spammers ;)

I know alot complained, but if you want my opinion, even if my fellow gamers here didn't help, just complained, I would rather you show them just how cool and excited you guys are with this game. I know I am excited to play, let everyone have a stab at that tomb. But...I also see the other side, either way....

I agree
Altho i was interested in the DLC offer
I too prefer to keep my game life separate from my mainstream
And thought this was a bit unfair to expect that of us...

Without taking either position to strongly, I would say, whatever they're doing, they should tell us before the promotion ends.  That's fair, I think we can all agree.

Well, while I am inclined to agree that only those who helped achieve the goal should be rewarded, I still think it's a bit jerkish. I'm not giving FB my information. Nor am I ever making a 'dummy' account (and email what with all the spam) just for all the Facebook whoring every corporation under the sun is now doing.

That said, again, I actually can see the point of only wanting to reward those who actually helped out. But it will end up generating a lot of forum rage, and more negativity, which I don't think this place really needs.

I don't want to sound like a jerk but I'm curious... why should somebody who refused to participate, with a few of them saying that people who did participate were corporate tools, receive the (hypothetical) participation prize?

Yes I have no idea how they would give the code to just the people that shared what they wanted shared without a lot of work!

That said I am inclined to say that I think chris is on the right track by giving the codes to only those who participated!

Facebook tracks it, so they just have to see who shared. I'm still curious if we hit 1 million, I hope we did. :)

yeah, but some of the people who did might have used a different email for facebook then they did for their EA account.

example, i have my own email, but i use my mother's email for my EA account (was before i got my own.)

so really, i can't see how they would know.

My counter question is why sink down to their level in the first place? For me, it just doesn't look good for a company to say they are only going to give it to those who participated because they didn't like people's complaints.

This is a very good point why should people who out right refused to help get any sort of reward

seems to me that it would be fair to let only those that helped get the prize ;)

Although I have a Facebook account, I did not participate. I personally have no problem with the decision to reward only those who participated. Fair is fair.

And there's also those who had very legitimate reservations, and did not insult those who participated in it. I personally didn't pay it any real attention, as it's just a tome, and I'm not that worried. I have issues with Facebook and how things are done there, and that is why I still don't have one, and thus didn't participate. It does strike me as just a bit on the inane side that pretty much every corporation keeps turning to that site (and Twitter, at times) for these things, instead of running them in house. We have a social site here, why are we going outside of it so much?

I actually have no problem with whoever ends up with this little tome. It makes perfect logical sense to give it only to the participators. I just think that perhaps that particular detail should have been pointed out at the outset of the promotion. Seems a bit odd to change it up now, but that is their choice, of course. Mostly I'm just posting to be talking. Waiting on my d/l of Rift to finish. Should've just gone to the store at bought the disc at this rate. ._.

Same reason why they don't hand out the Staff of Parblahblahblah or Hindsight to the people who refused to sign up to the Newsletter, the person in question refuses to participate for their own reasons and shouldn't wonder why they don't recieve the item.

It's not sinking down to their level, it's just not catering to the people who didn't do anything. They aren't being punished, they just aren't being rewarded. They did nothing, they get nothing.

Edit: ANyways... chances are, nobody is getting it anyway. Priestly was talking about his opinion on the matter, which could be completely different from reality.

I thought I'd just post this here, in case some of you didn't read it in the thread on the DA2 Announcement forum.

Chris Priestly wrote...
We are tallying up the numbers and arguing if the target is reached to make it available to everyone or just to those fans on Facebook would have helped reach teh goal. Personally, I am in favor of rewarding those who took part, not people who complained and didn't help.

When we know whether the goal was reached and who will or will not get the item, we will let people know.

Hope it gives you the information you seek.

Bit mixed about this personally...there were countless people like myself who wanted to do everything they could to do this, but really didn't understand how they wanted us to get these would-be "impressions".

My knowledge of Facebook is limited...I'm a member, and I wanted to help get the game "out there", but I don't really use Facebook enough to understand a challenge like this. Yet, I don't think I or anyone in my position for that matter (quite a large number it seems) should miss out if they're going to select people who participated.

I liked and shared those posts, but at the last minute...even then I don't even know if that's what I was meant to do, heh.

Either way, I hope we hit the goal...I have strong faith in BioWare, have for years...even if they're part of EA now and things are different...I just hope they don't put the "late comers" or those who lacked understanding in the with the lot who ****ed and whined about the promotion.

I know many of us, myself included wanted to help get these two challenges done...just the Facebook one was a little vague for the understanding of quite a number of people.

My fingers and toes are crossed that we met the goal, because I don't want to miss out on this final book, like many others.

Hopefully they dont forget me, I shared. If people didnt share and complained and called people corporate tools, why should they expect a reward?

While I could agree with the "only give it to those who helped" part, I think this would be quite hard to do. I don't know of a way to link to a facebook account here or something like that and I doubt that they will PM codes to the thousands of people who participated.

(or as someone else said: having different emails for Facebook and your EA Account could lead to complications as well.)

Probably a threat of sorts to get people who want the tome to actually share the posts. Best to share just in case, lol.

Edit: FYI, simple to email a promo code to redeem to everyone who shared. Not hard for them to do.

There is a difference between the two. It was decided at the start, that the staff would be a newsletter exclusive. The tomes on the other hand, simply wanted a certain number, and it would be unlocked for everyone.  Also Chris' opinions do hold weight in the matter, since it looks like they are reevaluating what to do with the tome this time around while tallying. So it would be catering to a certain group, if they change their mind after the due date.

I don't comment much, but I have to say the following. As someone who shared every post, but will never merge my Facebook account with any of my gaming accounts, I'm concerned that I might miss out on an item purely because I keep these aspects of my online life apart.

There's nothing I hate more than FB games that unlock content in games ONLY if you give FB access to that information. Is it not enough for Bioware and EA to be happy that I've registered to their websites, hype up their games in other forums, spread good word of mouth feedback in the real?

I know FB and Twitter are considered powerful marketing tools, but why are the people who *will* buy the game seemingly being shafted in favour of attracting those who *may* buy the game?

Noone I game with is going to read any of the posts I Shared, not on my FB anyhow. Maybe that means I don't deserve the item. But I think what I've said to the people I game with has achieved what the FB campaign was trying to do.

Give us Bioware/EA controlled websites with link codes that we can put into our FB/Twitter posts, PLEASE don't force us into handing over our personal data to a company like FB.

Anyhow, that's my two bits. I hope we made the target.

If every participant receives the same code, how long would it take until this code spreads through the depths of the net?^^

People would start hoarding codes to sell on Ebay then.
