There are also fans who never complained but has no access to facebook, or did not want to spam their friends because they are not gamers. I would say it's unfair for those people.

That's what I was thinking.

yeah but you could have created a facebook... it's not like your hands are tied.

That's like me saying I don't like Dead Space 2 and it's unfair that only people who buy that game can get the bonus item.

Pretty much why this is an empty threat/plot for people to go and share today's post.  There's no way to link EA accounts to Facebook accounts except if they happen to share the same email address, which a lot don't.

Well, aside from the obvious fact that they'd have trouble finding out who participated or not... the people in question have not participated in the event to unlock the tome, which means they'd be recieving something for doing absolutely nothing. It's not unfair for the people who didn't sign up to the newsletter to not recieve parlathan or the people who didn't play the demo to not recieve those items, it's no different here.

If somebody refused to participate, either out of frustration or because of public shame (which they could have simply changed the share to appear for only themselves) why should they be "rewarded"?

Sucks for you... but it really is no different from somebody too poor to go buy Dead Space 2 for an extra item.... In the end i'm sure they will give it to everyone assuming we got enough... but I still think the people who did nothing should stop feeling like they are entitled to it.

I suppose.  I know my facebook account still uses an email that was hacked by someone who changed my password and I can no longer access the email anyway.  I changed my password there but not the email for fear of not knowing from where that person got in from.  So if they emailed the unlock to those addresses associated with facebook accounts I know I'd be out of luck.

On the flipside they could just send a message via facebook to those who supported the challenge and took part.  That has nothing to do with people's email accounts.

That would be a *huge* amount of work. There's no way to message everyone who "shared" something, if they can even see that. As far as I know, they can only see the # of page views and then who liked something/commented/etc.
Even if they could see who shared the links, they'd have to manually add each person to a list to send a message to them.

We are tallying up the numbers and arguing if the target is reached to make it available to everyone or just to those fans on Facebook would have helped reach teh goal. Personally, I am in favor of rewarding those who took part, not people who complained and didn't help.

When we know whether the goal was reached and who will or will not get the item, we will let people know.

Well, I'm not complaining if we don't get the item. Given the way Facebook operates and the things that Zuckerberg has said, I'd be happier to see a promotion gimmick with them fail anyway.

Yeah, I totally used my gaming Facebook account for this promotion and that account does not match my account here.....

For one, Mr.Priestly, your post have sparked the elitism attitude amongst some forumites regarding who deserves or don't deserve it and whatnot. Whether intentional or not, I don't see it as a good thing; splitting up the fanbase over something trivial.

Some people should keep in mind that, you yourself complaining about other people who complains, puts you in the same league.

If I understood this challenge correctly, this was about shares AND impressions. So if you just read their FB post everyday, you did participate, even if you did not share it. And since it's impossible to link those page loads to our user accounts, I have no idea how they are going to choose who deserves the tome and who doesn't. I admit I did not share those posts, but I did read them every day....but maybe I'm wrong about this.

Speaking as someone who did take part, I humbly ask that if it's available, it's available to all. Many of those who did complain did so constructively, because of Facebook's questionable practices before and/or arguing that this challenge came off as intrusive. These are concerns that do bear some thought. The facebook game, after all, already has several prizes associated -- another one tied to Facebook might be excessive -- and while grassroots efforts to advertise the game are all fine and good, if my friends I knew were planning on playing had participated, my facebook page would have been full to the point I'd have missed my sister's engagement announcement.

I'm not saying everyone who complained bothered to justify it, but at the same time, I do feel that some people had very good reasons to have reservations here.

I didn't participate with this one but it would seem only fair to reward those that did.

I had no doubts about sharing - joined facebook for DA II news
months ago  and little later  wondered how all the 58 years old
fat white males / females who claimed to be be 19 years old hot
young men from all across the world made it into my profile as
friends (blocked all of them), not to speak of all the minors
(same fate as adult spammers) who need an infinite supply
of  new fb friends for reaching their fb game goals a wee tad
faster.

So the current campaign was a nice payback day on my most
recent facepalm-book 'friends' (before blocking them).
