Okay, first off, I'm really nervous about even posting this, simply because I don't want to be one of those annoying spammers who posts banal, self-serving threads in the wrong place and irritate the mods to no end.  I spent literally an hour looking over the ME forums to decide where this should go!  That said, I apologize in advance if I'm off-base posting here!

So, here's the deal.  For the past three years I have hosted a geeky film or video game- related theme for my birthday.  My nerd friends dive all in and my non-nerdy friends tolerate the wall to wall dorkiness for a day.  I've done Portal, Fallout 3, and Jurassic Park over the previous years, complete with costumes, props, decorations, movies playing in every room, themed adult beverages, and 3D sculpted cakes. 

This year I am going with Mass Effect as the theme for my party on March 12, however I am woefully unprepared.  In previous years I had things like bottles of Nuka Cola, prop Portal sentry droids that really spoke when approached, and raptor cut-outs stalking guests.  I am making a Commander Shepard uniform costume and have ordered an awesome sculpted cake from the people who made my previous cakes.  But beyond that, I'm not sure how to celebrate in true Mass Effect style, especially with dwindling  time left until the party. 

So I am putting the question to other fans, what else can I do to fly my ME flag high?   Decorations?  Activities?  Absolutely any suggestions would be honestly appreciated and I promise credit where due and plausible deniablity when requested.  :innocent:    Thanks so much for reading!

They do amazing work!  I will have to look for pictures of the dinosaur and Companion Cube cakes.  They're somewhere on my other hard drives and  just as impressive.

I'm guessing it is fancy dress? You get someone to role play as Matriarch Aethyta and have them serve the drinks. Even funnier if they are in drag
Do musical statues with 'Legion's robot.'
Have clips from ME playing in the background?
Water gun fight? But when you want to use biotic powers you will have to shout out which one so people know exactly how to levitate/throw themselves.
Do some turians facial tattoo painting. I would totally have that done!
Although, saying all this, are you organising the party?

Or just use water baloons for biotics.

And for throw, you could always throw a balloon or a empty bottle if you don't like them.
If you want to pull, then you could always use a cheesy pick up line.

Excellent!  I fear it would be difficult to convince my male friends to do Asari drag, despite the ensuing hilarity.  The water guns are a great idea, but I think perhaps nerf weapons might be a less messy alternative!  I would have LOVED to do a life-size Legion but time just does not permit this year. 

I am organizing the party myself with help from my husband who works in product design.  The bad thing about it is that most of the work falls upon us.  The good part is that we're both pretty handy and creative and since we own a few homes, I am able to go crazy in one of them with...ah... temporary re-decoration. 

Edit...I probably should have said something more like "I am able to temporarily assume direct control."

If you're planning the event in more than a single room, get one lighted in red with Omega's Afterlife Club music playing for dancing. If you get tired of the same 2 tunes playing all night, the same artists did other tracks you can use.

The same could be done in blue for a Flux-themed room. Chora's Den might be a bit too much...
 
If you cannot find the tracks in MP3, simply run the game on a computer with some decent speakers.

Any ideas on music similar to the "club" themes in Mass Effect?  In other words, future-techno sounding? 

As for the colours, I can absoulutely use tinted bulbs and create approrpiate hued motifs.

Upstairs music for Afterlife was composed by Saki Kaska and the name of the track is "Callista"
Lower Afterlife uses a track called "Techno Madness" by Jesse Allen.

I'm assuming you can probably find similar tracks from the same musicians on ITunes. You can listen to samples and choose what suits best.

Whatever you serve, make sure it is appropriately colorful (food colors work great, you can find them in the baking aisle)

I think a banner that simply says CALIBRATIONS! would be hilarious, if only to about half the guests!

- Red bowls of food for turians/quarians, blue bowls of food for everyone else.
- Orange tinted lighting like Afterlife
- Incredibly strong alcohol (London Dock 88%) or moonshine in bottles labeled "Ryncol"
- Get a Youtube MP3 converter to take all of the sound track songs off of youtube and put them into your itunes. Play constantly.
- A recording of EDI's voice that plays when people walk into the bathroom. "This is the women's restroom."
- If you have a perky redhead friend (woman) have her greet the guests. If she loves "all types of people" even better.
- Put red cutouts like the locks on the Normandy for doors you don't want people to go in. Green ones for the ones you don't mind people going in.
- Have someone learn the Shepard dance. The Morinth mission one.
- Have a table set up for Quasar or whatever the mass effect gambling game is. If you're against gambling just have the guests bet shots of booze. If they lose the hand they take the shot. If they win someone else has to drink it.
- Everytime someone spills a drink they have to sing Mordin's scientist Salarian song.
- Send around a few pictures of dresses/clothing in Mass Effect. See if they can match the color schemes.

That's off the top of my head. If I think of anything else I'll post it later.

Edit: My inner engineer kicked in and realized I have several suggestions for "Ryncol"

- London Docks
- Bacardi 151
- Absinithe (If you live in North America you won't be able to get it unless you have a friend in Germany or somewhere like that to send it over. If you can get someone to send it, I recommend this one as it's the most likely to resemble a krogan death drink. It's... green!)
- Everclear. (I don't suggest this unless you're stuck. Goes up to 95%)
